New ‘Expendables 2′ Set photos Feature Jean-Claude Van Damme

3 years ago by

Apparently it’s been a good old time on set with the good ol’ boys of The Expendables 2 cast. Ever since Con Air director Simon West started rolling film on the sequel to Sylvester Stallone’s action-movie throwback, we’ve seen a variety of photos coming from the set, featuring some of the biggest baddasses on and off the screen once again flexing muscle and shooting off their guns.

However, if there’s one player in the cast of the Expendables sequel who fans are especially excited to see, it is no doubt JCVD himself, Jean-Claude Van Damme. The “Muscles from Brussels” famously turned down  Stallone’s offer to be in the first Expendables, but evidently the sight of his action movie contemporaries having some good fun – and/or the fact that he wasn’t really doing much, other than more Universal Soldier movies with Dolph Lundgren - led JCVD to throw his lot in for the sequel. Pretty sweet.

Also joining the cast this second time out are action star Scott Adkins (Wolverine, Bourne Ultimatum) and “the toughest man in the world,” Chuck Norris. Furthermore, judging by the amount we’ve seen of him in the online set photos, Bruce Willis is indeed getting some expanded screen time as promised. Super sweet.

Below you’ll find the latest gallery of Expendables 2 set photos, featuring JCVD, a brief shot of Adkins, as well as returning tough guys like Stallone, Lundgren, Terry Crews, Randy Couture and Willis. WARNING: These photos will probably grow your chest hair just from looking at them:

While it’s been titillating to see so many badass action stars in one film (Universal Soldier reunion!), I still must maintain that the bigger sigh of relief for me is the presence of Simon West (instead of Stallone) in the director’s chair. The first Expendables was a film I was wholeheartedly behind and wanted to love, but the direction (from the incomprehensible photography to the CGI blood to the “shaky cam” filming that Stallone lobbied for) was downright terrible. Considering that West’s filmography is littered with B-movie action films that many consider enjoyable or guilty pleasures, he seems well-suited to make The Expendables 2 the type of relentless testosterone-fest that’s at least coherent enough for me to get behind.

We’ll keep you up to date on Expendables 2 set photos as the movie battles its way toward its August 17, 2012 release date.

  1. I cannot wait for this!!

  2. No Arnold Schwarzenegger? Then I don’t care. I want Arnie back! Yea, I know he’s old and fat now, and probably unfit for this kind of movie. But if he’s not in it, I’m not watching. And I mean really in it. More then just a retarded cameo just for the sake of including him. No Arnie = no love from me. Enough said.

    • He will be in it….calm down.

      • I am calm, lol. I’m merely stating that the only reason I would possibly watch Expendables 2 is if Arnie is in it. If he is not, then I won’t watch. We all have our reasons to watch or not watch a particular movie (even ridiculous reasons like this one, lol).
Anyway, for me it’s simple. Arnie in it? I’m SO there. Not in it? Pass.

        • go to the site referenced in this article (at the bottom) and go all the way down to the bottom, you will see that arnie is in this and goes through some action (hence why he has blood smeared on his forehead).

    • I think Arnold has a much bigger ‘come back’ role in this one as the trailer shows him taking the last shot – literally.

  3. I also didn’t like the CGI lasers they added to the weapons. Those looked terrible…

    • the reason it had alot of CG garbage was b/c they had a budget drop of around 40 million, the only big of practical effects they used is in the beginning where the guy gets split in 2 by dolph lundgren.

bad news is, alot of the cast are saying that this one will be pg13 (to draw in sales), which is a terrible decision b/c it means no (proper) action, no blood etc and that’s not what old school actions movies where like (e.g commando, rambo, eraser etc).

      • Pg13? You are kidding right?

      • Please, oh please!, tell me they are not making this PG-13?!

      • if pg 13 not going to see it pg 13 is for kids or punks

  4. Terry Crews!!! OMG! What a huge mother ******!!!

  5. So can’t wait

  6. Every time I see Terry Crews I think of the scene where he mimes Vanessa Carlton’s ‘A Thousand Miles’ in the movie ‘White Chicks’.

  7. Two words: chuck norris.

  8. so wait…. Jason Statham isn’t in this one? What the hell?

    • he is just not as much screen time as the first one i think

  9. The photos are great.

I hope Van Damme does a great job as the main villain, he looks awesome and reminds me of the bad guy at the ending of Scarface with the dark glasses and the skull face.

It is mixed with Terminator and that bad guy from Scarface:

    http://images.wikia.com/scarface/en/images/1/11/Skull.jpg.

I hope The Expendables 2 is better than the first one and has more action, more explosions and more fight scenes than the first one.

Also no CGI blood, maybe more realistic just like Con Air.

The Expendables 2 could be the best film of 2012 with such a cast like that.

    • not with a pg 13 rating it will be weak

  10. cant wait for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. “Apparently it’s been a good old time on set with the good ol’ boys”

A man died on set 2 weeks ago.

    No Kofi, No.

    • No offense, but making action films is a dangerous profession, hence the use of stuntmen. These men and women are absolutely incredible and make this kind of film possible for the genre’s audience. That a man died on the set is tragic but it happens and I’m willing to bet he knew what he was getting into when he signed on.

Jackie Chan almost died quite a few times in his movies – are you going to say his “oops” vignettes at the credits are disrespectful to his own mortality and those of his stuntmen?

All jobs are not the same. This man died doing what he wanted to do for a living, helping make this film an excellent part of the action genre. Also so the audience can see a great film with a huge chunk of their favorite action stars. The respectful nod will always be given to this man and we’ll get to enjoy the creation he was a part of. Although I didn’t know the man, I’d like to think he’d rather have us concentrate on how cool it is rather than put ashes on our heads and tear our clothes about his death.

      mac :]

      • I hope they acknowledge him in the film (before the movie starts). My condolences go out to his friends and family.

    • No disrespect meant. I hadn’t heard about that.

I meant that in the sense that the cast has been tweeting alot of set photos of themselves on set with everybody – saying how they enjoy being there.

      That was all I meant.

Condolences to the friends and family of the man who lost his life.

  12. I’m wondering why they’re listing two of Scott Adkins bit roles instead of the 2 that we all really know him in?? Yuri Boyka in “Undisputed I and II”
Kofi, you crossed the line into Blasphemy!! I shall see you at high noon!

    • He was in Undisputed 2 & 3, not the first one.

      • Holy Crap! Now I can’t fault Kofi for his mistake. I was thinking II and III while my fin’ers were a type’n the wrong Roman Numerals!
Thanks for the catch Great Kahn! I shall have to meet myself out in the streets at high noon then!

        • Oh no you didn’t call Kahless Kahn?!

          ghuy’cha’!! QI’yaH!!! Hab SoSlI’ Quch!!!!

It’s been nice knowing you. My 2 Cents.

          :-P

  13. Terry Crews looks like he’s ready to play Luke Cage!-yeah baby! Add him to the Avengers or G.I. Joe movies!!

    • Or Heroes for Hire.

      • That’ll work too!!

  14. What a cast!
The only 2 BIG 80′s action stars missing I can think of are Steven Segal & Jackie Chan.

  15. I’ll take these guys as action heroes over the kid who plays the werewolf in Twilight or Justin Timberlake any day.

  16. I had no trouble with ‘The Expendables’ movie at all, besides the fact that Gary Daniels didn’t fight much and was killed off too easily. I mean, that dude is one of the best fighters in the world, even though he is mainly a B-movie actor. HIs skill should have at least been explored a bit more… especially than Steve Austin, who really has just brute strenght and no martial arts skills to speak of. Now it seems Austin is getting a comeback, and Daniels is not – cannot.

Well, I guess we all have to make some sacrifices for cinematic pleasure, which is why I’m not complaining. However, I really hope folks stop saying things like CGI blood and shaky screens made worse of the first movie, because they didn’t – they were part of the pleasure that made us love it!

  17. I’d really like to see John Travolta and/or Nicholas Cage in the movie, even if it is for less than five minutes like Bruce Willis and Arnold were in the first one. They were great together in Face/Off.

  18. These people jackie chan, jet li don yen/loren avedon and johny deep if u add there i will appreciate
