The Expendables 2 movie poster and synopsis First Expendables 2 Poster & Synopsis: This Time, Its Personal [Updated]

A script for The Expendables 2 has yet to be completed – not to mention, most of the stars from the original Expendables are not yet officially set to return in the sequel (which hasn’t settled on a director yet either). However, according to studio heads, that’s no reason to hold off on promoting the followup to last year’s 1980s action movie throwback.

Early word is that Bruce Willis will have a more significant role in the next ultra-violent screen venture with Sylvester Stallone and Co. – and recent rumors peg Jean-Claude Van Damme as being another member of Team Willis.

Lionsgate has now gone ahead and unveiled both an early synopsis and promotional poster for Expendables 2, which is slated for release next summer. While the one-sheet is just a basic variation on the original Expendables metallic skull image, the plot description falls more on the intriguing side – since it seems that (in appropriate ’80s sequel style) Expendables 2 is going the “This time, it’s personal!” route.

[Update: According to StalloneZone, Stallone himself says this early Expendables 2 synopsis is not legit. However, he promises than the actual synopsis will be released soon.]

NOTE: If you don’t want to know about the fate of a specific Expendables character this early on in the game, you’ll want to pass on reading the synopsis. Consider this your SPOILER WARNING.

Still here? Check out the Expendables 2 synopsis and teaser poster (via First Showing) below:

The Expendables are back and this time it’s personal! After Tool (Mickey Rourke), the heart and soul of the Expendables, is brutally murdered on a mission, his comrades swear to avenge him. They’re not the only ones who want blood. Tool’s beautiful young and wild daughter Fiona embarks on her own revenge mission, complicating matters when she is captured and ransomed by a ruthless dictator plotting to destroy a resistance movement. Now Barney and the Expendables must risk everything to save her and humanity.

Clearly, Expendables 2 is also going to embrace the “bigger equals better” approach that came into vogue back in the 1980s (and remains in fashion today). The stakes are being raised higher; the Expendables crew have more personal motivation to carry out this next mission; and with Stallone “going for all the marbles” this time around, there will be even more beefy aging action icons joining the party. Hopefully that translates into the second Expendables pic being an improvement on the original.

The Expendables 2 will arrive in theaters on August 17th, 2012.

  1. “wild daughter Fiona.”

Anyword on who will be portraying this part?

    • Miley Cyrus

    • And Cyrus will have a sex scene with Stallone

      • And have her act like she’s “high”, but in reality has no clue what she’s doing.

  2. I loved The Expendables. I also love how Stallone is trying to get more action stars this time around. Thanks for the early info. Keep it coming!

    • yh expendables was awesome hope this1 will be more awesome =)

  3. Can’t they come up with.. you know an OK story at least? it seems like they spent 5 minutes working on it. oh well i thought the expendables was awesome! and i’ll probably see this as well!

  4. Before anyone else throws down their wish-list of required action stars for the second go-around, I want to put this idea out there…

Clint Eastwood as The US President.

  5. So is Willis\Schwarzenegger going to be this ruthless dictator?

  6. one word. YES.

    • I’ll expand on that with a “hell yes!”

  7. Wesley Snipes should be hired to kill ‘Tool’ so we get the Demolition man to seek revenge on Simon Phoenix, again.

  8. Cool teaser poster and the storyline seems good, like Stallone said ”going for all the marbles”.

I hope Jean Claude Van Damme, Steven Seagel, Chuck Norris, Vinnie Jones, Mark Dusacsos, Kurt Russell, Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson and more action heroes will be in The Expendables 2.

I even hope Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger will repirse their roles and their roles become more larger maybe have them shooting machine guns or fighting bad guys.

It would be awesome to get all the action heroes stars from the 80′s and the 90′s in this film and shows all those Twilight punks that they still got it and the 80′s are back in action.

It is bit shame that cinemas doesn’t have those true action movies like in the 80′s and the 90′s where they didn’t have no wies, no CGI effects or fake explosions.

That’s why those films were classics because they were really and it had real tough men in like Stallone, Arine, Willis, Seagel and Van Damme.

The Expendables 2 will be awesome.

  9. I really think that Cynthia Rothrock should be in this! Her 80′s actions movies were always a staple around the house just like the rest of these guys.

Also, the dictator and resistance angle seems a whole lot like the first movie…

    • ya it does seem alot like the first movie and why are thy killing tool off come on it’s rourke I thought thy would kill terry crews he was my least liked expendable and I thought in the first one tool said he retired after he killed a girl

  10. WTF??? They’re killing the coolest character off? I enjoyed The Expendables, but Mickey Rourke’s character was more interesting than the others, but they’re just gonna kill him off? That’s a bigger waste than his role in IM2.

    • yes

  11. “ransomed by a ruthless dictator plotting to destroy a resistance movement. Now Barney and the Expendables must risk everything to save her and humanity.”

I am confused about how that means they will have to save humanity. And wasn’t the last movie about a ruthless dictator?

Idk, doesn’t seem very creative to me. I hope they don’t just keep overthrowing ruthless governments.

  12. If there is an action icon out there that needs to be in this movie it is Mr Chuck Norris! Admittedly it would doom The Expendables to death by roundhouse from the start! But who cares, it’s Chuck Norris!

  13. A revenge story, nice! I didn’t like The Expendables, but hopefully this’ll be good

  14. I still say it should be…

Bruce Willis hires both Stallone’s team and Schwarzenager’s Team (most action stars) to both take out a dictator. They find out it’s a suicide mission set up by willis to kill both teams and erase evidence of their past co-operation. The two teams then work together to fight Willis and come corrupt government agency.

Thats the movie i want to see, not some stupid damsel in distress movie.

    • damn you, that’s the idea i threw on here not to long ago…

  15. I’d like to point out that Nu Image also had a press release about Rambo taking on a werewolf at Cannes two years ago. These things aren’t always accurate.

  16. wow..so mickey rourke is written off already…pretty sad synopsis..is he even gonna be in the flick??

  17. i can see bruce willis in a room with mickey rourke, that would thrill me. they could be old allies or enemies, and bruce gives the order to kill him, or does it himself .
the whole daughter in the way and being kidnapped is too cliche for action movies. as in commando, and several other action movies.
mila kunis would fit as his daughter and after the book of eli she may be able to pull off some action.

  18. unless it is an unknown actress, i would be fine with that.

  19. Too bad Stallone isn’t directing the expendables anymore.. And I just hope that when Rourke’s character (TOOL) dies at the film, he dies but kills most of the entire squad of special forces that Willis hired to destroy his home base and Willis pulls the trigger that kills rourke..

And I agree that the whole kidnapped daughter is too cliche, I was hoping of an international setup that makes the expendables public enemy no.1 and they have to team up with schwarzeneggers expendables to clear all their names…

    • sly’s directing sucked to the highest degree and his editing crew where almost as bad (quick cuts = not cool). i’m glad he won’t be directing, all we have to hope for now is that he gets a director that knows what their doing (like the guy from transporter).

      • “quick cuts = not cool). i’m glad he won’t be directing, all we have to hope for now is that he gets a director that knows what their doing (like the guy from transporter).”

The guy that did the fight choreography in the EXPENDABLES, CORY YUEN was the director of the TRANSPORTER..

      • the director of transporter 1, 2 or the part 3 with all the unbelievable super impossible stunts like cars driving out of water and landing on trains….

i did love the transporter movies, but the stunts in part 3 were a little too over the top

  20. yes international sounds good, schwarzeneggar’s hit squad would also be a good addition, would open up more characters for future sequels.

we need a sniper, a flamethrower and terry crews automatic shotgun.

    • “yes international sounds good, schwarzeneggar’s hit squad would also be a good addition, would open up more characters for future sequels.”

Yup, They should make 5 sequels for this franchise. Going to the point that the genre turns into an action/espionage/martial arts film.. Hell put on an aerial dogfight with the expendables plane with apache helicopters and tanks! This franchise is too big for a “kidnapped daughtter” plot.

Have Mickey Rourke fight off a squad of 20 death squad soldiers storming his tattoo parlor. And he fends them off with a shotgun, grenades and knife fights and the end a fist fight! now that would be cool. Dying on a blaze of glory..

  21. I think Marko Zaror (Undisputed 3, Mandrill, Kiltro, Mirageman) should have a role on this one, to appeal to the latin-american audience.

    • “I think Marko Zaror (Undisputed 3, Mandrill, Kiltro, Mirageman) should have a role on this one, to appeal to the latin-american audience.”

Add Antonio Banderas and Danny Trejo to the mix…PURE AWESOME..

  22. that tattoo parlor has to be a small fortress, probably armored and armed out the rear end..

    • “that tattoo parlor has to be a small fortress, probably armored and armed out the rear end..”

Yeah, by having a secret wall having high caliber weapons or some parts of the building are rigged to explode in case someones biometrics are not the expendables team are inside it..

  23. http://stallonezone.com/wordpress/?p=3574

From Sly’s office: The synopsis is fake.

    • Thanks for the heads up. I’ve updated the article.

      • No probs Sandy, keep up the good work.

  24. Thank GOD! And I thought that was the real story for the sequel…

  25. My thoughts on the poster:

MERCENARIES OF THE CARIBBEAN 2: THIS TIME IT’S PERSONAL CAUSE WHERE’S THE RUM GONE?

  26. EXPENDABLES WISHLIST:

Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Kurt Russell and *Wesley Snipes

    VS

Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, Jean Claude Van Damme, Jesse Ventura and Steven Seagal

    P.S *

I know Wesley Snipes is in Jail. But just seeing Snipes VS Van Damme would make me go crazy.

Randy Couture and Terry Crews have to go. there not 80s stars and are not bigger enough for there roles.

Kurt Russell who originally turned down a roll should be forced back in.

    • I dont know mate I quite like terry crews I think he’s good in his role, I see what ure saying on him not bieng an 80′s star but he could definitly kick my head in thats for sure

  27. This time it’s personal? You should be punished if serious mr. Stallone! Otherwise it’s a pretty humorous line.

  28. I think they should combine “Expendables 2″ with “Predators 2″.

  29. Expendables 2 should include regular action stars like seagal,chuck norris,michael jai white,jackie chan,scot adkins,dwayne johnson,kurt russell,vandamme,don dragon wilson,hulk hogan,danny trejo,john cena,batista,lou ferrigno,vin diesel etc.It should include only stallone,lundgren,willis & schwarzeneger from the first part.The rest is useless to the sequel
