‘Expendables 2′ Image Gallery: Warriors Armed to the Teeth

3 years ago by

The summer movie season technically doesn’t wrap until Labor Day weekend, but The Expendables 2 will round out this year’s slate of brazen blockbusters by mid-August.

Buzz surrounding the manly action-palooza seems optimistic right now, despite the overall mixed reception for its predecessor. Chalk that up to the Expendables sequel’s casting additions – including, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris, and Scott Adkins – and Simon West (Con Air, The Mechanic) taking over as director.

Previous Expendables 2 promotional materials have essentially revolved around certain themes, be they “Old-school Action Heroes Unite” or “There Will Be Explosions.” Today, we have a collection of Expendables 2 photos where the theme appears to be “Warriors With Weapons.” That doesn’t include the new pics of female Expendable Yu Nan (who’s holding some sort of tablet device – ?) – and Sylvester Stallone, who pretty much is a biological weapon, at this point in his career.

Check out those new Expendables 2 screenshots in the gallery below (click any thumbnail for the full version):

Expendables 2 is said to embrace the “This Time It’s Personal!” logline that was all the rage for sequels back during the heyday of testosterone-fueled action films (in the 1980s and ’90s). The idea is that the titular crew of craggy mercenaries set out to take down a megalomaniacal arms dealer (Van Damme) who’s responsible for the death of one of their own. As many people have already observed, the odds do not appear to be in star Jet Li’s favor (Hunger Games reference intended), as far as making it out of the Expendables sequel alive. Li’s conspicuous absence in the latest image gallery only adds fuel to that fire (re: speculation).

The Expendables 2 begins a theatrical release around the U.S. on August 17th, 2012.

  1. Part of me is hoping they are leaving Jet Li out of the marketing just to keep the identity of the actual death a secret. I agree its looking like Li is going to bite it but I am really hoping he makes it.

But this is a throwback to the 80′s and we all know that death in these movies isnt always final. Maybe Yang doesnt die but they all think he does. Maybe Yang is mad about his crew leaving him to die and he becomes the villian in part 3.

  2. Losing Jet Li’s character would blow.

    mac :[

  3. I hope that the “One of their own” that they lose is Mickey Rourke’s character instead of Li.

  4. didn’t they say it was M.Rourke a long time ago?…and i doubt Jet Li could be a villain in this series as the first movie made him look like the comedy relief

  5. if you look at jet li’s imdb page, he isn’t filming anything or scheduled for anything after this movie, which hints that he might be pulling out of cinema altogether. a leave from acting and into directing would be good for him, despite the fact that he is more then capable of performing without the assistance of a stunt double :(

hope he gets an epic finale in the movie (goes down fighting not like a b****). and i also hope that scott adkins is the one that kills him (that would be one epic fight)… in fact i hope scott adkins is utilised for his epic fighting skills and not isn’t just in the movie b/c everyone likes him.

  6. Still think its Hemsworth who dies, Li is a red herring, there was a set pic with Hemsworth sporting a hacked up t shirt with lots of bloody slashes like Van Damme had a go at him. Mark my words it will be Hemsworth.

  7. Remember in 80′s action films its always the “new” guy who dies, Hemsworth is a perfect redshirt and it will upset the ladies who are dragged along to see the movie, it all fits.

    • Yes! it all makes sense now!

    • Hmm.. my earlier comment came out sarcastic because of the exclamation marks. but i actually believe you’re right. In a movie all about action veterans and new action stars coming together, it never made sense to me why newbie hemsworth would be hired in the team –not brother thor mind you, the teeny bopper hunger games one who’s gonna marry miley cyrus.

if its as the classic red shirt ‘expendable’ :D then i’m okay with his presence

  8. I must say,I say i guess it’s Li as well !
The other Chinese Woman seems to replace him,sister..or what so ever to take revenge as well !

  9. Awesome images.

Van Damme looks badass, I hope the fight between him and Stallone is long, violent and hard hitting.

And about Jet Li? If he’s The Expendable who goes out then I hope he goes out fighting.

Maybe a fight between him and Adkins would be epic.

I wouldn’t mind if Liam Hemsworth is the one who gets finished, Van Damme would destory him.

  10. They should have killed off couture’s character instead!

    • word !

  11. I want to see the Van Damme sidekick ….I`ll be happy with that

  12. Dude, 3rd one has to have Steven Segal, Antonio Banderas, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson! Cmoooon make it happen!!!
