There's a lot of turmoil surrounding G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra right now. Fan reaction to the full trailer has been lukewarm; stars of the film like Marlon Wayans have already had to swear that G.I. Joe won't suck; there was even a recent rumor that the film tested so badly at early screenings it led to director Stephen Sommers (The Mummy) being fired from post-production!

Well, to assuage moviegoer fears Paramount is taking the proper steps by...releasing even more promo materials for the film! That's right, to prove just how awesome G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra really is, the studio has released four new exclusive character posters to some lucky websites and a new TV spot for the masses. Check them out:

Got one poster of the good guys and one of the bad guys for you:

GI JOE DUKE POSTER

.

GI JOE STORM SHADOW

As stated, various sites other than Screen Rant (cough, Paramount, cough) were each provided one exclusive G.I. Joe poster for the characters of  Ripcord, Baroness, Storm Shadow, and Duke. You can click on anyone of the those names to jump to the source site for a full-size poster for that character.

On to the new TV spot. Slash Film's Peter Sciretta has wisely dubbed it a "TV Trailer" and I think you'll be able to see why:

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra "TV Trailer"

Pretty freaking long for a TV commercial, no?

The new TV spot pretty much rehashes everything bad we've seen from previous trailers - with the exception of the one anecdote at the end featuring Channing Tatum's Duke and Marlon Wayans' Ripcord joking about jumping through/over a speeding train in their "accelerator suits." That was actually kinda funny, IMHO.

Still, is that one funny moment enough to overturn the overwhelming amount of evidence that G.I. Joe is going to suck? Hardly. Although, at this point, I'm kinda feeling like the expectations are so low for this film, it has nowhere but to go but up. What do you think?

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra hits theaters on August 7, 2009.
