This show, Stargate Universe, may have started out looking good but it soon went sore. This is a show to miss. It is no the usual Stargate production. SGU is poorly cast, written and directed. A waste of time.

I am so looking forward to seeing this new take on the Stargate franchise, but I have to say this looks nothing like SG1 or Atlantis, I can only hope that Universe comes close to being as good, and of course comes to the UK.

Doesn't look any different than the other trailers/promos I've seen. And they didn't interest me either.
oh well, I have my dvds of SG1 and SGA.

Sorry network! I guess I'll have to wait to see it, when I get home. But I really don't need another trailer for SGU, I was sold when I first heard the idea.

While it looks good, I'm sad that this is the first Stargate series that we won't be able to watch as a family - it looks like it won't be appropriate for my daughter. :(

Space is a big place to get lost. I don't know why is it so hard for people to except this just because Voyager and Lost in Space had a similar premise. Also, this kind of approach to the franchise will give it a different feel that the other two shows.

Agreed with Ken.

It's not the originality of the premise, necessarily, but in the skill and ingenuity one carries out the idea with.

From what I can tell from this trailer, they're really taking the "Lost In Space" idea and making it their own. Of course the proof will be for all to see in a month's time, but I for one am more than willing to give this a shot now that I've seen a hint of what's coming up. It even looks, dare I say, a little more mature than the previous series. Something about the visual tone in the trailer that makes it feel a little more grown up.

Time will tell, but for the moment, I'm planning to set my digital recorder to "Record Series" when it arrives.

Well I'm sorry for contradicting you atuned sensibilities..
Please forgive me, but I realize everyone here is aware of everything your trying to say and since you took such relish in sucking the air out of the thread, I'll be leaving now. Thanks for your insight...

You know, not to sound like I'm making excuses, but I don't think there are any 100% unique stories anymore. I mean, if you look at novels, movies, tv shows, radio shows, there are tens of millions of stories already written out there. No matter what you think of, there is bound be some novel, tv show, movie, whatever that has come out before that has some elements of the story you're thinking of. So someone's is bound to point out, "well they already had this book/movie/tv show that talks about that same thing!"

And it really depends on how much you like the movie that determines if you care that there have been other things with similar themes. I see the same people criticizing what they've seen of Avatar for having similar elements from other movies then 5 minutes later go to the District 9 article to praise it for its originality despite its similar theme to movies like Alien Nation and the like. And vise-versa of course.

So I think it's pretty pointless to try to judge something by how "original" the story is, because if that's the case, all movies now-a-days suck. I think as long as they approach it in a fresh way and don't throw in too many gimmicks or time fillers it alright to forgive some similarities in theme of their episodes or whatever to things that have come out before it...

There were plenty of Stargate SG1 episodes that were similar to some Star Trek TNG episodes, but I enjoy the cast chemistry of SG1 and their somewhat-less-diplomatic approach to solving the problem in their version more so than with Star Trek, so that's why I would prefer the SG1 take on the episode over the "original."

Anyway, I just hope this show will be good. I'm sad that SG1 is over, but mainly because no more Col. O'Neill... And I can't believe Don S. Davis, aka General Hammond, aka Hammond of Texas, is dead... :'(

How is the story different from "Voyager" or "Lost In Space?"
A lot of people didn't like those series, despite "Voyager," for example, looking good. It still has to prove itself and despite having staff that's comprised of veteran "Stargate" people, no doubt, recycled stories are waiting in the wings. Hopefully they can skillfully recombine them to make something watchable.

Now if only the show will be as good as the trailer... :-D

Although, the last time a lot of people made that joke was with Iron Man. And luckily we were not let down there.
