Developer VestGames and indie publisher Versus Evil recently unleashed new information about Eville, the Among Us-like social deduction adventure whose fantasy twist will come to PC via Steam sometime this year. Versus Evil is no strange to the ongoing social deduction craze given its 2021 release of First Class Trouble, another Among Us-inspired title that pits passengers on a luxury spaceship against a rogue AI.

Indie developer Innersloth originally released Among Us on mobile devices and PC in 2018, inviting players to take part in an experience that turned everyone into a suspect. The title received little in the way of widespread attention at launch but went mainstream in 2020 thanks to popular Twitch streamers giving it a platform. Unsurprisingly, a litany of copycat experiences has followed in Among Us' wake, some more successful than others. And it seems the social deduction genre is only getting its feet wet. In the following months, those interested in the genre can expect something a bit more fantastical to hit the Among Us-style scene.

Over the weekend, VestGames and Versus Evil hosted a PC open beta for Eville that ended on January 23. The two entities also shared additional details about the fantastical social deduction game. Most notably, Steam users interested in the title can expect it to enter Early Access sometime in 2022, Versus Evil shared in a press release. For a closer look at what Eville will have on offer, check out the original announcement trailer in the video linked below:

Eville takes place in the game's titular village, a typically idyllic community struck by tragedy when one of their own is mysteriously murdered. The Among Us qualities come into play as Eville users work to unmask the conspirators and thwart plans to gain control of the village. Of course, some players may find it useful to just make it through the night alive, though the randomly assigned roles could make this particular task quite challenging.

Thanks to Among Us' meteoric rise in popularity a couple of years ago, social deduction games seem as though they're sticking around for the long haul. Even Metal Gear Solid publisher Konami has invested in the genre, evidenced by last summer's announcement of the mystery game Crimesight. In addition, several months ago, the recently acquired Zynga unveiled ReVamp, a Snapchat-exclusive social deduction adventure featuring vampires. It'll be interesting to see how well Eville fares once it hits the market.
