As the enemies and environments get tougher the further players progress in Valheim, they are going to want a stockpile of potions to help replenish their health and stamina or grant them resistance to various effects. Valheim follows Norse traditions, including a process for making Mead. Mead is a honey-based alcohol, and players can ferment their own to aid them while they are exploring or fighting. To get Mead in Valheim, players will need to have the ability to mine for Copper and Tin Ores and craft Bronze. They will need to build the Fermenter, one of the available crafting stations, somewhere at their base. They will also need to find a good, consistent supply of Honey.

Once players have a Fermenter, they will need to forage for ingredients and craft a Mead Base. This is what they will eventually allow to ferment and turn into the potion they need. Each Mead Base they create will yield 6 potions, which can be the difference between surviving a fight or falling in battle. While Valheim is currently in Early Access, there are only seven Meads so far for players to craft and enjoy. It is likely more will be added with time. Here's every Mead Base players can craft in Valheim and how to turn them into consumable Mead.

Every Mead Base requires Honey and an assortment of consumable items players can forage. To get Honey, players will need to search for Beehives inside abandoned houses and around swamps. Breaking a Beehive will yield Honey, but it will also give players a Queen Bee. These can be used to start new beehives at the player's base and build an outdoor Honey Farm for a nearly endless supply of Meads.

The Mead Bases and their recipes and Mead effects are:

  • Minor Healing Potion: 10 Honey, 10 Raspberries, 5 Blueberries, 1 Dandelion. Restores 50 health over a short time.
  • Medium Healing Potion: 10 Honey, 10 Raspberries, 4 Bloodbag, 1 Dandelion. Restores 75 health over a short time.
  • Minor Stamina Potion: 10 Honey, 10 Raspberries, 10 Yellow Mushrooms. Restores 80 stamina rapidly.
  • Medium Stamina Potion: 10 Honey, 10 Cloudberries, 10 Yellow Mushrooms. Restores 160 stamina rapidly.
  • Frost Resistance Mead: 10 Honey, 5 Thistle, 2 Bloodbag, 1 Greydwarf Eye. Players become resistant to Frost for 10 Minutes. Allows them to survive the Mountain biome.
  • Poison Resistance Mead: 10 Honey, 10 Coal, 5 Thistle, 1 Neck Tail. Players become very resistant to Poison effects for 10 Minutes.
  • Tasty Mead: 10 Honey, 10 Raspberries, 10 Blueberries. Players receive a +300% stamina regeneration rate but a -50% health regeneration rate for 10 seconds.

Players will need to cook their Mead Base in a Cauldron placed near the Fermenter. The process happens almost instantaneously, so players shouldn't have to wait long. Then, they will need to put their Base into the Fermenter. It will take about two in-game days, or around 30 minutes to an hour of real time, for the Mead to finish Fermenting and be usable. Each Base will yield 6 Mead potions.

If players really want a good collection of Mead, they should consider building multiple Fermenters. Right now, Fermenters can only ferment one Mead Base at a time, so the process can take a while.
