In an interview with MTV, Bond 22 scribe Paul Haggis expressed confusion regarding the title of the movie based on his screenplay, Quantum of Solace.
He told them that he “had no idea” what the title meant, following up with “it’s not my title.” When asked what he thought of the title for the film he just said “no comment” and according to MTV, then sighed.
I’ve never liked the title and I still don’t, although that has no bearing on the quality of the movie, which I’m hoping will be excellent. I just find it odd and awkward. Yes, I know it’s based on an Ian Fleming short story, but based on the above comments by Haggis, I get the impression it has nothing to do with that story - so why use that oddball title?

I certainly hope they rename the film, Steve. This sounds like a bad SciFi channel movie title.
Has a movie’s title ever been changed after it’s been publicly announced? I mean we all know that Lucas changed “Revenge of the Jedi” to “Return of the Jedi,” but I believed that was before the official title was announced.
I remember a film I did some telco work on called “Going West” starring Dennis Quaid and Danny Glover. The title was later changed to “Switchback”. I’m sure this goes on alot. Except this Bond film is so high profile, it would be kinda surprising if they did do a U-turn and rename it.
However I think they will due to fan reactions.

The name might be stupid, but the teaser poster is cool as hell!!! I haven’t seen a poster with the title on it, Vic. Can you post it if you have it? I tried Googling it, but I got the teaser poster only.

Ahhhh, so all they did was take the teaser poster and just add the title. Oh well, I guess we’re gonna be stuck with the name. Thanks for the link, Vic.
Daniel Craig understands the title and has already sufficiently explained it; you might think it’s dumb, but there’s not much excuse anymore for not understanding it. Haggis is just being bitchy. I suspect he might have had a different title in mind and been shot down.
It is an awkward title, explanation or not. But Casino Royale was terrific, so I have faith in this one being just as good.
