Europe To Get Even More Excrutiating Version of Death Proof

In my review of Grindhouse, I strongly urged viewers who were not die-hard Quentin Tarantino fans to leave after the first half of the double-feature, Planet Terror. The scenes involving nothing but inane conversation by the female leads almost literally put me in a coma due to the fact that they were excruciatingly boring and as far as I’m concerned, almost pointless. I say almost, because the point was to give us some insight into the characters, but the characters were not deep or interesting enough to warrant what felt like 30 minutes straight of inane conversation.

In any case, it seems that the high-brow journalists at the Cannes Film Festival are fawning all over Tarantino and his ghastly creation, and that the European release of Death Proof (since they’re splitting up Grindhouse into two films over there) is going to be even longer than the U.S. version:

The longer version of Death Proof includes long conversational scenes involving actresses including Rosario Dawson, Rose McGowan and Tracie Thoms.

All I can say is: wow, even more inane, boring conversation in that version. I can’t wait to see how our enlightened friends overseas react to this movie once it’s released…
