I was much happier with this latest season or half a season, or whatever this thing with "8s" is... interestingly, the episode with alison having her baby was initially the season end, but they pulled two in the can episodes up and will produce two more for when it airs again. the actress playing alison was actually pregnant, which is why they ran that story arc. When they had the episode where everyone was remembering various things from earlier episodes, I thought to myself, hey, i need to go back and re look at these. I didn't remember some of them!! I will miss Zoe and Colin F did a great job tearing up at her departure!

Kai: Point taken.

I've worked knee deep with scientists (PhD's, etc.) for most of my life, and I'm not one of them. I'm more the Sheriff Carter of the bunch. My angst is just a real world observation.

Most issues that require math equations that are longer than most novels I read, are not issues that can get solved with a guess.

I agree with your take on the situation, and OMG, I agree with how some super intelligent people just aren't that smart, but that's where I'm coming from.

I still like the show, it was just one of those "huh" observations that isn't a complaint... from me.

I don't understand the complaints about Sheriff Carter coming up with solutions. To me, that's one of the show's strengths.

He's obviously not a brilliant scientist, so he can't "compete" with most of the rest of the character's on that level. But what he does have is a detective's ability to listen, observe, and make connections. That's his form of intelligence, and that's how someone without a science background can contribute to the story. Plus, Carter is usually the only one who's seen what's going on everywhere in town, thus he's the only one who has all the information to make those connections.

Also, I've known several extremely intelligent people in my life, and I've noticed something about many of them. Though they're brilliant when it comes to science, they often don't have a lot of common sense. So the folks in Eureka need a "normal" like Carter.

Jordan Hinson is set to be in a sitcom starting Sept '09 with Kelsey Grammer. Good. Didn't like her that much along with her nutty aunt. More Henry!

Piratedan:

ZING! I was thinking that myself about the Sheriff coming up with fixes amongst all the scientists.

I was trying to force my way past that just so I can enjoy the show, but it's one of those quirks I MUST ACCEPT to enjoy things. (It use to bug the living crap out of me when they would try new science and ideas on things in Star Trek and always have them work... dudes, barely anything works first time off the block in science!!!)

As far as seasons and schedules: Say Thank you to the Web, DVR's, DVD's, time-shifted viewing and other nefarious new elements being added to the mix.

Networks need to figure out how to capture viewers and retain ratings, of some sort, and get away from the trap that is the Nielsen system... or the antiquated Nielsen system.

I have a need to write up another Nielsen article... I've got some interesting bits to add to the whole scheme of ratings.

Looks like they're making the show ready for cancellation. Zoe is off to college and her boyfriend is off to MIT; Carter is considering moving to Australia; Allison is on maternity leave and the actress (Salli) is probably off making movies; Fargo is now in a serious relationship (I guess you can call it that :-) ). Henry, Jo, Zane are still there and the restaurant guy, so hopefully they are not setting this up to cancel anytime soon.

well Bruce, I hope that they can start finding more ways to keep the show fresh, I'm getting a bit leery of the non-scientific Sheriff Carter pulling the entire town's collective chestnuts out of the fire by proposing "solutions" to the threat of the week. If the show has any faith in its characters and background, any chance that they can mix it up a bit more? Wouldn't it be nice if Carter screws something up for a change and the scientists have to bail him out? Isn't there enough collective brainpower around to have everyone help out a little?

Like the cast as it stands but maybe they're leaving things open for the Tess character in case Eastwick doesn't pan out and they can bring her back if needed.

In a way, I wish the networks would simply own up and start using a Fall and Spring schedule, those shows that make the cut, get the next 13 weeks added on and placed onto the spring schedule, those that don't appease the almighty gods of TV critics and neilson boxes get doomed or rerouted as summer schedule shows to find an audience.

Ok, how did I miss the season finale? This past Friday was the episode with the ice core sample, or did I not record the right episode on my DVR? I will be extremely annoyed if there was another episode on after that....
