Kuato lives! Or rather, Kuato will be born again in Len Wiseman’s remake of the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger film Total Recall. But who will appear alongside him?
Colin Farrell was confirmed as the lead back in January. Then, Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston joined the cast as a villain at the end of March. Most recently, we reported that Kate Beckinsale (Wiseman’s wife and the star of his Underworld films) was in talks for one of the two female leads in the film.
In all seriousness, I’m still not entirely sure about a Total Recall remake. While it may not be a classic, and it probably fits the requirements for Screen Rant’s rules for remakes, I quite enjoy Paul Verhoeven’s original film and have yet to be totally sold on Wiseman’s vision for the remake, which doesn’t take place on Mars -transplanting the story to Earth and making it more realistic.
That being said, I’m not crazy enough to think that everything would be okay if Arnold Schwarzenegger simply suited back up and returned to the 1980s/1990s action hero roots (as some folks on the Internet seem to believe). While the Governator has plenty of options (here are a few sequels we hope he doesn’t take), the fact of the matter is that Hollywood is on a remake spree and younger, hipper actors are seeing the benefits.
In any case, Ethan Hawke is now in the movie. Does that make you want to see it more, less, or neither? Also, I know I keep joking about the three-breasted alien but, honestly, is there a more memorable part of the original film?
