Next week, the Epic Games Store is giving away 2017’s Star Wars: Battlefront II as part of its ongoing free games program. This program has been a boon for players short on spending cash and stuck at home thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic of the past year, as it enabled them to build an expansive library of top-tier PC games without spending a dime.

The festivities kicked into high gear during the holiday season, as Epic offered up a new free game every day throughout December. Among these offerings were the 2014 survival horror title Alien: Isolation, the dinosaur-filled theme park building game Jurassic World Evolution and the island-managing simulator Tropico 5. It doesn’t look like Epic is slowing its free gaming streak down in 2021 either, as its latest giveaway is set to take players to the iconic Star Wars galaxy for some multiplayer warfare spanning almost every different era of the franchise.

As reported by Comicbook.com earlier today, Star Wars Battlefront II: Celebration Edition will be made available for free on the Epic Games store from January 14th to the 21st. Included in the Celebration Edition along with the content of the main game is up to 25 alternate Hero Appearances (including looks for Rey, Finn, and Kylo Ren based on Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker), more than 125 Trooper and Reinforcement Appearances, 100 Hero and Trooper Emotes, and over 70 Hero and Trooper Victory Poses. As will all titles that Epic gives away, players will be able to download and keep the game for as long as they want, as long as they claim it during the weeklong giveaway window - a small matter of clicking a few onscreen prompts.

Initially released in 2017 alongside Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Battlefront II was largely met with derision from players due to its overreliance on the kind of microtransactions that had become the norm in multiplayer-centric titles of the time. However, after years of updates and playable character expansions, the game became hailed as a legitimately solid Star Wars experience on par with past titles based in the Galaxy Far, Far Away. Even after its final expansion was released last April, players still bring new life into Star Wars Battlefront II by modding in now-iconic characters like The Mandalorian’s adorable infant Grogu.

Given the sheer amount of content available in Star Wars Battlefront II: Celebration Edition, having it available for free on the Epic Games Store is an incredible deal for players looking to check out one of the Star Wars franchise’s most recent video games. These players will be able to pick it up completely free of charge for a week starting next Thursday, adding to Epic’s long and successful streak of giving fans top-notch games for an unbeatable bargain.
