Emma Stone on 21 Jump Street Emma Stone May Head to 21 Jump Street

Jonah Hill, the foul-mouthed kid from Superbad, is fast-becoming a star in the film industry. As he continues to work with Michael Bacall and Joe Gazzam on the 21 Jump Street movie script, Hill has his eyes on Emma Stone to play the film’s leading lady.

Stone is one of the hottest young actresses in Hollywood. Fresh off the successful Easy A, she was just tapped as a potential leading lady for the upcoming Spider-Man reboot.

Hill and Stone worked together on Superbad in 2007 and have both become recognized names in the comedy genre. While 21 Jump Street will surely have its fair share of humor, the film could be a nice change for both young actors. Over a year ago, Hill mentioned he wanted to make 21 Jump Street into an “R-rated, insane, Bad Boys-meets-John-Hughes-type movie.”

It would be interesting to see Stone in two action films. She has the acting chops and the looks to get any role she wants right now and filmmakers are openly courting her talents. We can only hope she likes this script and adds some much-needed female power to 21 Jump Street.

Information is scarce on the film’s development, but we know Hill wants Johnny Depp to make an appearance in the movie update of the 1987-1991 television show that helped kick off Depp’s illustrious career.

Hill is keeping himself busy trying to nail down the key positions on 21 Jump Street. The film will be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs) and should begin production once Hill completes filming of The Sitter.

Sony is in charge of this production and may be close to nailing down its biggest female star of late. If Stone joins 21 Jump Street and the Spider-Man reboot, that will make three straight Sony films for the actress. Maybe they’ll give her an action hero to portray at some point. Wouldn’t you love to see Emma Stone kicking ass in a costume?

21 Jump Street is scheduled for release on March 16, 2012.

  1. Mmmmmm Emma Stone…..

  2. I must be the only one who doesn’t get the hype surrounding her. She’s a fair actress (though nothing special, and somewhat bland) and she’s cute (but again, nothing special and somewhat bland). What am I missing?

    • I certainly wouldnt say she was bland looking, stunning is the word I would go for. Beauty is, and always shall be, in the eye of the beholder. I think she’s hotter than the surface of the sun.

  3. he’s becoming a star?? ROFLMO too funny.

  4. I liked Emma Stone in Easy A .

  5. Well it better include Johnny Depp! That was his show. haha

  6. I hope that the cast is multi-racial, as it was on the original TV show. After the original captain of the crew (Frederic Forrest) left the cast, the show had an African-American captain played by the awesome Steven Williams (the mysterious Mr. X on The X-Files), a Vietnamese undercover officer named H.T. Ioki (played by Dustin Nguyen – where is he these days?), and an African-American female officer named Judy Hoffs (played by Holly Robinson). And of course, two of Dom Deluise’s sons (Peter and Michael), and that one guy… what was his name… oh right. The awesome Johnny Depp. ;)

I also hope that they don’t make it too slick of a film. This isn’t Miami Vice or Mission Impossible. 21 Jump Street was all about the cops who looked too young to be taken seriously as regular cops. They were the misfits of the precinct. They weren’t glamorous or overly badass.

In the pilot, Johnny Depp’s character was so strait-laced and uptight, he had to be taught how to dress like a teenager. It was not overly realistic, of course, but a fun show. And not meant to be too stylized.

Even in modernizing the program into a film, I hope they remember that about these characters. Sounds like Hill’s got some of the idea, with his reference to John Hughes, who had so many films about characters who don’t necessarily fit in or relate well to others. Just make sure it doesn’t have too much of an action aspect that it overpowers what made the show enjoyable — at least, to me — the characters.

  7. I guess they’re not closely following the original, seeing that the female lead on the show was Black (Holly Robinson). Oh well, doesn’t surprise me.

    • doesnt really matter though what race the lead female is: just as long as the cast has chemistry. For the late 80′s and early 90′s 21 Jump Street was huge because of its racial diversity…in contrast to the rest of Tv. I would like to see Johnny Depp, holly robinson (who still looks barely in her 30′s) and Richard Greico have some sort of role in the remake…maybe as veteran cops. But i remember there being bad blood between Depp and Greico, and Depp got Greico thrown off the show lol…so that might not happen.

      • LOL Depp could care less about the show to try and get anyone thrown out. HE wanted to get thrown out. If there was anything between Depp and Greico, it was Depp refusing to do some episodes that he felt uncomfortable with (for example, racial slurs that were supposed to be said by his character undercover) and/or out of character, so those storylines were given to Booker instead.

And the race of the female role in 21 Jump Street matters to me. There are so little quality black female characters these days, I’d like to see some underrated young talent get some shine.

  8. *drools* Emma…….:P
