A new trailer for the next entry in the ultra-popular vampire/werewolf series The Twilight Saga: Eclipse premiered this morning on Oprah’s talk show and we have it here for your viewing pleasure.

Eclipse, like its predecessors Twilight and New Moon, is based off the book of the same name by author Stephenie Meyer and was adapted for the screen by Melissa Rosenberg.  However, David Slade (30 Days of Night) will be holding the directorial reins this time around and – if the new Eclipse trailer is any indication – has raised the action quotient significantly from the previous Twilight films.

Have a look for yourselves:

The string of murders mentioned in the trailer is the work of an army of vampires led by Victoria (played now by Bryce Dallas Howard, replacing Rachelle Lefevre from the first two films), a vampire whose equally-undead lover, James, was killed by Edward (Robert Pattinson) in Twilight.  Victoria is now on a quest for vengeance against both Edward and his mortal lover, Bella (Kristen Stewart).

So – as you likely picked up from the trailer – the werewolves are recruited for battle against the army of evil vampires wrecking havoc on Seattle, Bella faces her impending graduation from high school, and the Volturi (from New Moon) are in town and wondering why Bella hasn’t been turned into a vampire yet.

Of course, all of this other activity just complicates Bella’s attempt to choose between an immortal life with her glitters-in-the-sun true love, Edward, and her occasionally hairy, unwaveringly loyal best friend, Jacob (Taylor Lautner).

And you thought Meryl Streep had it rough in 'It's Complicated.'

Eclipse looks like it will have its fair share of scenes with CGI-beasties and vamps duking it out – not to mention an overall darker visual style and faster, more action-driven pacing than either of the first two Twilight films.

Of course, let’s not forget that the Bella-Edward-Jacob love triangle will still be the centerpiece around which the rest of the plot revolves – something that I suspect the designer of this new trailer was going out of their way not to emphasize.

So what do you Twilight fans out there think?  Are you even more pumped for Eclipse than before?

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse hits theaters on June 30, 2010.

  1. If Twilight didn't exist, and this was a new IP with that trailer, you would probably see it though.

  2. Zarlie, I used the word “evolve” to reply to a previous post that stated that vampires change. That's what I meant. They can change, they can evolve, etc. into different versions of themselves.

Mogul and Mangus, you guys are missing the point. Sure, you can make up whatever you want but if it's something that doesn't make sense or just plain silly (the sparkling in sunlight thing) people will respond. We are not stupid and we won't sit there as someone makes up random things or makes silly changes.

  3. I'm not missing your point @ all…we will just have to agree to disagree.

  4. No offense, but you are. No one was talking about whether you could or couldn't change it (legally). I don't know where you got that from. We were talking about the changes making sense and being logical in the context of the creatures.

  5. I agree w/ Flora. The one thing that is great about Twilight is its “unique” take on vampires and werewolves. Its new and entertaining to alot of people. No need to hate because you dont like it. You started the argument, now take your medicine, lol. And why oh why do people like you comment on movies/stories you do not like. Just dont comment at all.

  6. I'm not just “hating”. I'm stating my opinion and backing it up with perfectly sound arguments.

As far as “don't comment if you don't like it”…why do people say that? Using that logic you shouldn't comment on my post if you don't like it, right? I'm a member of this website and decided to state my opinion. What's wrong with that? The writers always leave a note at the end of their articles asking for people's opinions? Why should it just be the positive ones?

  7. OGB, do you know the reason why vampire skin glistens in Twilight, rather than making them burn? It's actually kinda more badass then burning when you come in contact with sunlight.

But really, that's my opinion. I don't think for any reason that it's silly. A Vampires skin in the Twilight universe is as hard as diamonds, the only thing that can penetrate it is a werewolves (SPOILERS: or changelings) teeth. Diamonds sparkle in the sun, thus a vampires skin sparkles in the sun.

I felt the same way as you did, my wife bugged me and bugged me to read the books so I could understand why they glisten, as well as why she likes the books. After reading all of the books, I not only understood why they glisten, but why she loves the books (aside from the 4th, which was a total dissapointment).

Seriously, if you haven't read the explanation or books, then you have no room to speak about it being silly. Again, it's your opinion, but don't expect people to take your opinion seriously when you don't know the source material.

  8. and u too are denied

  9. X3 sucked….Not a big fan of the Twilight series, but I wouldn't even go that far. Also, I wouldn't insult Blade like that……

  10. Jason you are so right…..but in case you haven't taken a look @ all of the comments, you should be prepared for ogb139 to blog your head off..with masterful replies that are full of “sound arguments” (excuse me, i mean self-proclaimed soung args). ogb139: hi hater.

  11. lol

  12. Marc, thank you for paying so much attention to me and reading what I write and then predicting what I will write next.

Instead of being a smart ass, add something to the conversation instead of regurgitating previous comments.

  13. It probably has something to do with them staying there to keep there sent, and themselves out of the eyes of the werewolves. Werewolves can't go into water, so the Vampires probably hid in the water until the last second to stay away and try to catch them off gaurd.

I don't remember them doing that in the book, but it could be an interesting scene in the film. The fight scene in Eclipse is pretty epic, at least in the book it is.

    • But in the second film the werewolves were happily jumping in and out of water from the high rock. Maybe their fur would just get soggy if they went in in a changed state.

  14. Thanks for the explanation. That makes sense. I guess the wolves have a keen sense of smell and water negates that.
