After an incredibly lengthy bout of silence, Dying Light 2 developer Techland has confirmed that "fresh updates" concerning the project will go live sometime in the new year. The sequel originally surfaced at Microsoft's E3 2018 press conference. Before long, the development team announced plans for a spring 2020 release. However, it's a launch window that ultimately would not be met.

Techland delayed Dying Light 2 earlier this year, as extra time was necessary to "fulfill [the team's] vision." Since then, details have been nothing short of scarce. A report from the website Polski Gamedev in May claimed that Techland's next zombie title had succumbed to development hell. Yet, developers quickly debunked the report, calling the article's English translation inaccurate and stating the project itself remained in "good shape." It seems the public will see that much for themselves next year.

In a Dying Light 2 Discord server (via DSOGaming), one Techland employee offered a bit of holiday cheer by telling fans that new information about the sequel will emerge sometime in 2021. The message read in part: "We've been, er, dying to update you all on how development has been going. We'll have fresh updates about Dying Light 2 coming in the new year!"

Admittedly, this new development isn't much; yet, it's good to know fresh details of a kind are on the way. Now the question on the minds of many is when said information will finally make the rounds. It should also be interesting to see how Dying Light 2 has changed since the last time Techland spoke about it well over a year ago.

While Dying Light 2-related news dried up quite a while ago, updates for the original Dying Light gave players at least a couple of big reasons to revisit the post-apocalyptic world this year. A few months ago, Techland launched the Hellraid DLC – an arcade mode inspired by a project of the same name that remains on ice for the time being. Dying Light: Hellraid is paid content that players access by visiting an in-game arcade cabinet. Weapons, enemies, and locales from the unreleased game are all a part of the experience, providing fans with a glimpse of something that largely remains a mystery. In October, Dying Light also brought back Left 4 Dead in the form of a limited-time crossover.
