Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has emerged as one of - if not the - biggest action stars in modern Hollywood - with a solid track record of films that walk a delicate line achieving both commercial and critical success. As a result, it's no surprise that any budding or existing franchise would want Johnson to star, appear, or cameo. Johnson's willingness to engage with established IP (from G.I. Joe: Retaliation to Black Adam) has created a number of win-win deals - whereby studios have boosted the profile of a project while providing room for Johnson to establish a compelling supporting character that could be spun-off into his own series.

The approach proved to be extremely lucrative for Johnson's turn as Hobbs in the Fast and Furious series. In spite of on-going tension with series star Vin Diesel, Johnson went on to co-star with Jason Statham in the 2019 spinoff film Hobbs and Shaw (with a sequel on the way). Now, the actor has expressed interest in joining the Sylvester Stallone's Expendables series.

Speaking exclusively with Screen Rant, Johnson suggested that if he got a call from Sylvester Stallone, he'd love to join The Expendables series.

Johnson: It all depends. Yeah, sure. I like Sly. He’s been a buddy for some time. That continues to grow, too and I’m excited about that and I know a lot of guys are. Sure, if he needs somebody to hunt somebody down, he knows where I’m at.

Of course, just because Johnson is interested does not mean that Stallone will a) call him or b) that the action stars could actually make it happen. Still, Johnson brought a much-needed shot of adrenaline and charm to the Fast and the Furious franchise starting in Fast Five and is going to be sorely missed in the upcoming two-part series finale, Fast 10 and Fast 11.

Given that The Expendables 3 stalled the franchise - earning a series low $214.7 million at the box office, there's no question the upcoming Expendables 4 (which is slated for a 2022 release but likely to move out of that slot) could use a major modern action star to up its profile. While the film is set to cost twice as much as its predecessor and has brought in well-known names like Megan Fox to appear in the follow-up, the series has yet to evolve or reinvent itself - a key factor for why the Fast and Furious franchise has maintained its momentum over ten films.

While Stallone might be somewhat reluctant to bring in an A-lister like Johnson, for fear he'd undermine the 80s action-star premise the series was founded on, a powerhouse like Johnson might be exactly the shakeup his Expendables series needs. Even though Expendables 4 is already in production, there's nothing stopping Stallone from adding Johnson in a small role - one that could tease a larger part for Johnson in subsequent installments.

The Expendables 4 is already in production, so it's unlikely that Johnson, at this point, could
