I don’t think the villain can be Kingpin, because in one of the other articles on here it said that the rights to The Kingpin are with Fox Studios with the Daredevil movie. But I don’t know if that’s still the case or not. I think the Kingpin would be an awesome villain for Spider-Man to fight in the next movie. The Kingpin and The Lizard. Sounds good to me!

Matt Keith says:

I was hoping Dunst wouldn’t come back….I just hope they give her minimal involvement in the film. The villian SHOULD be The Lizard and ONLY The Lizard. The first three films have already set up Dr. Connors.

Iron Knight says:

I firmly believe that The Lizard will be the villain this time. We have seen long enough the appearance of the character in the franchise.

And as for the multiple villains… Yeah I don’t think it works for Spider-Man, but that doesn’t mean neither for other franchises. The best example is Batman, and I’m talking bout the Nolan’s films. Both of them have featured more than one villain, and you could say that even three.

Batman Begins had Scarecrow and Ra’s Al Ghul, but Carmine Falcone was a kind of enemy for Batman.
The Dark Knight had The Joker and Two-Face, but also Sal Maroni and all of the mobs

Phil G says:

Kingpin: No. Even if Fox didn’t have the rights to him, it would be folly to have Kingpin be the villain in TWO separate superhero franchises. And unnecessary with all the Spidey rogues out there.

Morbius: Thank goodness. I didn’t want him. The Spidey franchise isn’t supposed to be “dark.” Spidey 3 was “dark” enough.

Lizard: Very probable. After all, Doc Conners has already appeared in past movies.

I’d want Mysterio, though.

As for Dunst returning, it had to happen. If Tobey is coming back, it would be too jarring to have a different girl play Mary Jane. One day in the future, they’ll likely reboot the franchise and have a totally different cast, but until then…

Phil G says:

@ Iron Knight, the reason multiple villains worked in Batman Begins and Dark Knight is because these characters were mostly shown as normal people in interesting, prolonged supporting roles and we got to know them before they took on their identities as supervillains (ie. Scarecrow and Two-Face.) I actually expect to see the same happen to Selina/Catwoman in a later Batman movie.

Basically, subtle, excellent writing is needed for these movies to work (although I do think Two-Face COULD have been saved for another movie.)

Andy S says:

I just hope they keep the MJ story to a minimum. No more whiney MJ, PLEASE! Her scenes with Peter in S3 really bogged the story down more than it needed to.

I think Morbius would have been cool, but it HAS to be The Lizard! Unless they bring in Electro, which would be bizarre.

I just want this film to be as good as the first two!

Andy S says:

Maybe we could see the introduction of The Black Cat in S4?

Eric says:

They have set up The Lizard perfectly & that IMO is who the main villian s/b in the fourth movie.

I, personally, would not mind seeing Kraven or even Dr. Octopus again. Electro would be a stretch but better than Rhino, Venom, or Sandman.

Wulfen says:

Just stop at Kraven the Hunter. Perfect villain for this.

I hardly think the 30 seconds we had of Dr. Connors is a ‘perfect set up’, but then again, I was never a huge fan of the Lizard as a villain. :)

Kraven has a purpose, he has a face, and he’s not the common Jekyll and Hide we see in lots of movies, only this time with a possible lizard body.

The Voice of Reason says:

Kraven would be decent.
No morbius is one less vampire in Hollywood – thank you!

Andy S says:

Electro, if done RIGHT could be a good villain as well. They would have to ditch his corny costume from the comics, but he could be done right. The only problem is they did the whole “experiment gone wrong” thing in all 3 movies so far (and if it’s the Lizard, it’ll be a fourth), and this is the only way I can see them explaining how Electro came into being….unless of course they make him a genius who creates a suit to harness electrical energy….

The Glove says:

I think Morbieus would have been a great choice and a superb way for the franchise to go, give the whole thing a bit grit!
not really bothered either way about Mary Jane being involved.
I’m thinking Morbieus may yet still be involved and they are just throwing us off sent.

90caliber says:

The lizard would be great to see on screen but he’s not really a villain. He doesn’t really have an agenda, he doesn’t commit any crimes really, he never goes to jail, he just terrorizes the city. If you have the lizard you definitely need another villain and Kraven seems the most logical. But personally my favorite villain has always been the scorpion.

90caliber says:

I also like the idea of the kingpin. I mean if the can crossover heroes like they’re trying to do leading up the avengers then why not villains. It just helps tie the whole marvel universe together.

Ed (Marvel Movies) says:

Kraven damnit!

Ross Miller says:

@Phil G,

Is this THE Phil G (aka Phil Gee) from The Movie Blog Uncut message boards.. from Leeds, in the UK? Or am I mistaken?

Alex says:

Kraven the Hunter? Kingpin? Are you guys real Spider-Man fans? I’m still waiting for Scorpion to come out of at least one person’s mouth. The Vulture is a classic character. Electro is too far of a stretch because it’s obvious that they’ll mess him up or at least his costume the way they messed up the Green Goblin’s.
The Venom/Carnage storyline was top 5 material in all of comics! Why not do that?
Morbius, pfft. Terrible.

The Voice of Reason says:

the lizard could definitely be a nasty villian. Todd mcfarlane wrote a five part story that included the lizard and not surprisingly also kraven near the end of it. It was pretty sweet.

Alex says:

90caliber,

My mistake, I saw that you posted about Scorpion. My man!

I forgot to mention that Kirsten Dunst is the worst thing to happen to any comic book movie… that includes Pamela Anderson in Barbed Wire. I’d rather have her play Mary Jane. Really, I would.

Lord Garth, Formerly of Izar says:

Don’t know why but I really couldn’t care less about SM 4. Would rather see another Ed Norton Hulk, Thor, Captain America and especially Iron Man or a sequel to Evil Dead with an extremely chunky Bruce Campbell

JJ says:

I think Black Cat could work as a secondary villian. Show Captain Stacy die heroically in Spider-man’s first fight with the Lizard, and have him (Spider-man) be partially responsible. Gwen blames Spidey for her dad’s death and — BLATANT RIPOFF OF HARRY’S ARC ALERT — vows revenge, becomes a high-profile cat-burglar to draw him out, discovers he’s her friend, Peter, and in the end forgives him and helps him beat the Lizard.

I make this suggestion not out of any great desire to see this plot(well, except for the Bryce Dallas-Howard-in-skintight-black-leather part), but to put Howard to good use. I feel nothing for Dunst, I think MJ should have died in S3, but if Gwen is not to be the LI, then give Howard SOMETHING worthwhile.

Why, yes, I am a little miffed about the size of Howard’s role in T4. Why do you ask?

KP says:

I am very angry to what they did to Venom in SM3. He was a last minute crunched in type thing. Now I was very happy to hear when Venom was out in SM3, after seeing it, I was crushed and wished they would’ve waited 1 or 2 or hell! even 3 more movies before bringing him, you want to do the character right has to be brought up with time and development. No SM character should be just thrown in just because they’re cool yes they are all awesome but each and every character have their own personality, fears, desires, ambitions and all very complex, which makes SM so popular in the marvel universe. I would not want them to bring Venom back unless done right! no more *he’s your opposite* (aka The matrix? blows) Venom was SM poison! not his direct opposite, which made him different! Scorpion would be great, Lizard and Kraven as well, definitely would love to see them! please do it right Sony!

J.R. says:

its likely to have again two villians. the lizard and carnage. if you know spider-man you know that dr. conners is the lizard. theyve set him up for this movie. also in spider-man 3, the black ooze, only a small portion of it catches hold of peter. so not all of it was destroyed. how it will turn red i dont know.

KP says:

@ J.R.

The symbiote that creates Carnage if I’m not mistaken was from Kassedy putting the substance through his bloodstream thus having the red symbiote, but if I remember correctly they made Carnage look like he was unable to revert back to human form because of the symbiote going through the bloodstream and ripping his skin out… Don’t remember, please correct me if I’m wrong anyone…

vid says:

someone actually suggested a McFarlane written story or Carnage-Venom? Those were mediocre stories at best.

Although a Scorpion then Scorpion-Venom villain could work but I doubt Raimi wants anything to do with any Venom character. Problem is I don’t find Scorpion’s alter ego particularly compelling. After Doc Ock, GG, Venom the rest of the villains don’t really have much depth.

The Voice of Reason says:

@vid
The mcfarlane written story was dark and violent – what I like. And it was a thousand times better than any story the writers came up with for SM3.

hud says:

i wish spiderman wasnt so kid friendly

Claude says:

I still haven’t recovered from the SM3 disaster! The whole idea of an SM4 makes me uncomfortable. Are we ready to try again? I agree with Lord Garth-it’s not one of my eagerly awaited sequels. I fear there’s nothing more to tell. The success of SM4 is hinged, I believe, primarily on the quality of the villain more than anything else. You will agree with me that there are not many movies that have been very successful on the fourth attempt: Superman 4, Batman & Robin etc. I wish Raimi the very best. He might stand a fighting chance with a storyline further from the ‘action-overdose’ of SM3- something more cerebral. Hmm. Like the Chameleon

Darren seeley says:

I’d much rather have:

- A Morbius solo film (or part of Blade 4, if it should happen)

- Kingpin will most likely appear in the sequel or reboot of Daredevil. If it has to be a mobster type, there’s Silvermane or Hammerhead.

- I still hope Detroit is a possible filming location.

- Lizard may or may not be “the” main bad guy. But the character should be in the mix.

- “Big part” of NY? Smythes and the Slayers?

greenknight333 says:

@ JJ

Black Cat is Felicia Hardy and not Gwen Stacy..that’s too much changing of the mythos for my tastes.

@KP

Why is Carnage red..probably because he is a murderous psychopath and when the offspring of the symbiote boned with a personality like that what better way for artists to convey “murderous psycopath” that with the color red..

Little disappointed by the fact Dunst is returning and was hoping they would explore the Peter Parker/Gwen Stacy story arc from the 70’s with Professor Warren and Gwen being killed by the Goblin and then having her and Peter cloned by Warren/Jackyl…

C’est La Vie I guess!!
