DreamWorks Animation 2013 2016 Lineup DreamWorks Animation: 2013 2016 Line Up

Now that the ink has dried on DreamWorks Animation’s new distribution deal with 20th Century Fox, the studio is ready to show off their slate of upcoming feature films.

However, rather than announce one or two films for next year, DreamWorks has unveiled their entire line-up from 2013 through to 2016, which includes How to Train Your Dragon 2 and 3Kung-Fu Panda 3, an adaptation of Mr. Peabody and Sherman, a number of original properties, and more.

Last time DreamWorks announced an upcoming slate, they outlined a plan that included releasing up to three films a year. At least one of those films would be an original creation, while the other two would likely be a sequel. However, this new slate will feature many more non-sequels and a few adaptations of popular properties.

Dreamworks Animation Turbo DreamWorks Animation: 2013 2016 Line Up

Here’s the synopsis for Turbo:

Turbo is a snail who dreams of being the greatest racer in the world, just like his hero, 5-time Indianapolis 500 champ, Guy Gagne. His obsession with speed and all things fast has made him an oddity and outsider in the slow and cautious snail community, and a constant embarrassment to his careful older brother, Chet. Turbo desperately wishes he could escape the slow-paced life he’s living. As luck would have it, he gets that chance one fateful day after a freak accident when he suddenly finds himself vested with the power of incredible speed. Turbo embarks on an extraordinary journey to achieve the impossible: racing against the best that IndyCar has to offer.

Ryan Reynolds will be providing the voice for Turbo, and will joined by the likes of Paul Giamatti, Michael Pena, Bill Hader, Richard Jenkins, and Ken Jeong for this “fish out of water” story. The film is based on an original script from David Soren, who will also be directing.

November 1, 2013 – Mr. Peabody & Sherman

DreamWorks Animation Mr Peabody and Sherman DreamWorks Animation: 2013 2016 Line Up

A big screen adaptation of the popular Rocky and Bullwinkle side cartoon, Mr. Peabody & Sherman follows the exploits of a boy and his dog. However, in a total role reversal, it is Mr. Peabody the dog that has all the brains, and Sherman the boy that is his loyal companion.

The Lion King director Rob Minkoff will be helming the film, with Ty Burrell (Modern Family) providing the voice for Mr. Peabody and Max Charles (Amazing Spider-Man) voicing Sherman. Rounding out the cast will be celebrated actors like Allison Janey, Richard Jenkins, and Stephen Tobolowsky.

Not much is known about Me and My Shadow, but it will reportedly feature a blend of CGI and hand-drawn animation. The story follows a shadow that “yearns for a more exciting life but happens to be stuck with a timid guy.” Josh Gad, Bill Hader, and Kate Hudson will be providing the voices.

This sequel to the Oscar-nominated 2011 animated film will further adapt Cressida Crowell’s book series, which follows the adventures of the young Viking Hiccup and his dragon. Director Dean DeBlois teased that with a newfound understanding of dragons, Hiccup will gain an increased curiousity in the world outside of his village, but beyond that, not much is known about the plot.

Along with director DeBlois, Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, and Jonah Hill will all be returning for the sequel.

    • Can’t blame SR for not reporting on news that hasn’t happened yet…

  2. So Penguins of Madagascar becomes a movie.

    • best thing about those movies are the Penguins

      • I think this is the first time Dreamworks Animation makes a movie out of a TV spin off based on a movie.

        • The cartoon is VASTLY superior to ANY of the movies. It is HILARIOUS!

          • The penguins are the funniest about the movies.

  23. What about a spirit 2 ? They really should make one! I love that movie so much!!

    • Hello Alana,

Unfortunately it’s highly likely it won’t be made, and they’re probably not thinking of, if at all, any time soon. The reason lying around is probably because there’s nothing to think of for a sequel. For example: (maybe not entirely based, but it’s a good perspective.) the movie might have been based on holding people from wrecking the wilderness. A good example is today. Real life. It isn’t bush now, it’s just buildings and pollution. Sure there is places like this. But this movie takes you right back to possibly around the 1800′s to 1960′s where everything was just beginning.

So, making a sequel could result in them building the area up and Spirit takes it down (maybe after they take his wife or child away?) some how, or just showing his long-term failure(likely choice). Or maybe it will just be about family. Not an entire adventure. I would love a sequel. But the way they made it, possibly prevents a sequel from happening.

      Technology ruined this world. :(

    • im verry hopefull that thay will but… :(

  24. Please make a rise of the guardians 2!

  25. Both of Dreamworks’ 2013 movies were terrible. The croods I gave a 4, and Turbo I gave a 4. I can’t imagine that How to Train your Dragon 2 and 3 will be any good. Same with the Penguins of Madagascar. But I do think that Kung Fu Panda 3 could be amazing. Let’s face it, after the Shrek series was finished, Dreamworks started to BOMB IT UP. In my opinion they are a disgrace to computer animation. GO PIXAR!

  26. hoooooooooooooooow toooooooooooooooooooo traaaaaaaaaain yoooooooooooooooour

  27. While “Turbo” did not take off the “Croods” was both funny and original. It’s unfortunate we have to wait so long for “How to Train Your Dragon” and “Kung Fu Panda 3″. I’m actually looking to see if there will be a “Megamind 2″. Does anyone know?

  28. Hello everyone, a new release date is set on “Kung Fu Panda 3″ . It’s no longer march 2016. Instead it will be pushed out on 23 December 2015.

  29. Aww I was really hoping to see spirit stallion of the cimmoron 2 :(
