Hi everybody,
Big Sam Raimi fan. **spoiler alert**

When I first saw the Evil Dead Films I was blown away.
and I really enjoyed "Drag Me to Hell" The only Raimi film I haven't enjoyed was "Darkman" and I can't rememeber why Maybe I should revisit that film.

Anyway I'm all over the place.

The point of my comment is that Raimi has a unique way of useing his camera as the point of view of the Horror which
comes right at you and in your face, and to top it off his comedic timing is right on the money.

Anyway don't feel bad about our little actress in "drag me to hell" Campbell was suck in after Evil Dead II and came out even more empowered and kicked butt in "Army of Darkness." So I'm sure our little actress will be battling in hell in the next installment.

NO particular Raimi fan, I did not see the Evil Dead stuff and I found Army of Darkness disappointing. The Spiderman films are great films but do not leave an author signature for me. Then I saw Drag me to Hell. Great great fun ! Not an horror, really, but a scary film with gross humour that constantly engages. I had a great experience watching this, a unique film with a big "author" signature, one of the highlights of the year so far.

Finally got to see it, in a thunderstorm no less. I enjoyed it but I didn't see that much humor in it like Army of Darkness; of course, I hadn't seen that movie in a long time.

****** SPOILERS AHEAD! SPOILERS AHEAD *******

I like the fact that Raimi ended the movie with the girl being condemned. Usually, Hollywood likes the rosey cum-bi-yah endings and it's refreshing to sometimes see the protagonist loosing.

In the initial scene, when the boy was taken, I thought the Latino woman was saying she would see the boy again but it was this Llamia dude she was talking about.

@Eric
Yeah, that was one of the few problems but I enjoyed it the whole time.

To me, the funniest moments were the young women jumping and screaming during certain scenes. In my dating days (about 6 billion years ago :-) ), that's why I would take a date to these type of movies. Also, what I would done, after finding out that the owner of the button is the one who gets taken, was give to someone I hated or like she finally did, give it to the corpse of the one who cursed me.

******* END SPOILER! END SPOILER *******

It was enjoyable to a point, and some extra credit is deserved (as in The Mist) for not wimping out on the ending, but two problems stand out. The movie as a whole was not really in the all-out Evil Dead 2 vein, and that made the one scene with the anvil stand out like a sore thumb (and was also a little repetitious after all that came before). More importantly, the "twist" could have been seen by a blind man, and just in case I hadn't figured it out by myself, there were at least two people in the theater who I couldn't help but overhear whispering the same to their friends. It was also somewhat contrived -- If the dollar was such a find, wouldn't he have put it in his collection right away??

I'm going to try to see it today, after work. It looks like it's on it's way out of the theaters, and I have a free ticket. I just hope I can stay awake.

Great review Vic, anybody who didn't like this flick just doesn't know how to have fun. BTW Raimi didn't have full creative control on Spider-Man 3, So cut the guy some slack. how would you like to have your bosses cram stuff in your face that you have to do, then you get attacked for it by losers in their mom's basement.

POSSIBLE SPOILERAGE!

So, I've seen it now and I thought it was great. The only area I thought could use some improvement was the ending. It ended how it should have (even though I really didn't want to see that happen), but the events leading up to it were as predictable as humanly possible. As soon as they put the button in an envelope, I had the rest of the movie playing through my head. I'd have loved for a quick twist right there, at the very end, where Long reaches into the envelope and it suddenly cuts to Goat Devil Dude dragging down Mrs. Ganush. That, I would have not seen coming.

I think it's time for a sequel. Possibly where, let's just throw a name out here, Bruce Campbell storms the joint (hell) with, oh, I don't know, maybe a shotgun and chainsaw in tow and rescues the taken souls. ;)

I would definitely like to see this, but I will probably wait unitl it comes to video. I can't wait for Raimi to come back to horror all together. I have enjoyed the spiderman movies, but I agree this is his best genre. I hope that he decides to add the Evil Dead trilogy and bring back Bruce! Grooooooooooovy!

Well, Vic was right....again; the movie came in 3rd, not 2nd as I predicted. I guess I didn't see the interest in Night at the Museum 2.

Vic, do I send the cookie to your house or your business? 8-)

Well I was drug to see the movie today, so I avoided paying the 6 dollars I spoke about earlier. The movie was decent. I'd probably give it 3.5 - 3.75 stars because the ending was predictable, and again an R rating would have taken the film a bit further in terms of gore, and I feel cheated on not seeing the full demon. I'd still recommend waiting for the dollar theater or for the hopefully unrated director's cut dvd.

Real horror movie, horror/humor? Sounds like movie racism.
I Saw this movie Holy God! I Mean it did make me laugh a few times but, it was normally mocking humor making the antagonist seem more powerful. Raimi was just making a great movie, creating some sceans that make you chuckle but still make you feel terror. Just part of his genius simple as that.

I loved it.
I was on edge, and felt very uncomfortable the whole time I was watching it, I was almost in dread of the next scare scene, and that has not happened in a very long time. the first sequence was awesome, and I think Raimi should do the next silent hill movie (though if he does do the next silent hill movie, no humor). I agree completely with Mr. Holtreman's review. See this movie!

I agree completely with Mr. Holtreman’s review. See this movie!

It's not a "real" horror movie. It's a horror comedy. The blood, goo, and various other things put in there are to be gross and make the audience laugh.

And besides, any "real" horror movie that's effectively scared its audience didn't do it by utilizing R-rated gore and violence. That isn't scary. It's just what unimaginative directors use when they don't know how to properly use characters, cinematography, dialogue, or the other fundamentals to create a creepy atmosphere. They resort to cliche gore and violence.

But once again, this wasn't a straitlaced horror film. It was a dark comedy mixed with some horror. It didn't need an R rating to achieve what I, and the majority, think it was trying to achieve- shameless horror-comedy entertainment.

Guys, don't let the PG-13 dissuade you. I had concerns about that as well but it was still great.

Too bad this film is PG-13 , cuz I would have spent my hard earned 6 dollars to view it via theater. Now I’ll wait for the dollar theater or for dvd."

I'm with you.For some reason I just can't buy the fact that any "real" horror movie that's supposed to actually be scary can be rated PG-13.I've seen the commercials and the blood looks like cherry Kool-Aide coming out of that guy's mouth.

I'm not saying that the movie is bad because of it's wuss-out rating, but it's just not a "go-to-the-theater" type of movie for me.
