Carrey (The Grinch) was a fan of Dr. Seuss. Meyers (The Cat) wasn't. I think that shows in the final result.

The Lorax is a great story, and if people listen to it, it could help change some minds. But, I doubt if the people who need to hear the story will be the ones going to see the movie.

If they make this movie, I hope (for the sake of every Dr. Seuss fan, his wife, and his memory) that they accurately portray the story and are careful to make something that Dr. Seuss would have approved of. From what I understand, Dr. Seuss's wife has final approval over films made from his books, and she is serious about protecting the reputation of his work.

Can't say this surprises me, Dr. Seuss seems to be a Cash Cow lately. Well Cat in the Hat was a bust but Jim Carrey seems to be their golden boy.

Wall-E had CLEAR social commentary.

The trashing of the planet

The depiction of humans as fat brain-numb consumers

How can you two (Matt & Dude Man) claim in any way that there was no social commentary behind it.

I don't care what a DVD commentary says: the film speaks Volumes for itself, and like it or not, people have felt, and do feel some kind of way about it, for better or worse.

Personally, my only gripe was Wall-E winning the Oscar when Kung Fu Panda was a much better film.

Oh my gosh Wall-E wasn't trying to preach to people! Andrew Stanton, the director/co-writer, said that the only reason he put in the whole "earth is being trashed" is that he needed a reason to get all the humans off of earth, and that seemed feasible.

"they could give Pixar’s Wall-E and its thinly-veiled social commentary a run for its environmental money."

So clearly you know nothing about WALL-E, then. Listen to the director's comments on the film, watch and realize the story you're seeing is about two robots falling in love and quit b*tching because there happens to be some very realistic trashing of our planet and over consumerism going on in the background. That's not social commentary, that's just extrapolating from the stupidity of our lives today.

Well I'd say they're certainly timing it right. I didn't know Seuss had written such a heavy-handed story so long ago. Of course I remember back when I was in grade school and the green "ecology flag" hung on the wall in class....
