“Dr. Horrible” kept going on about how “TV is DEAD” and the internet is the future, and he was going to take over. He talked about how ‘who wants to see me on a grand HD scale when you can see me like this’ (cut to an image of Dr. Horrible in a tiny window). He also joked about how in contrast to TV programming, the internet has no commercials and no waiting around for your shows, but his comments about it started to stall because of ‘buffering’ that you sometimes deal with when watching programs via the ‘net. Heh.

Then Nathan Fillion aka “Captain Hammer” cut in, punching Dr. Horrible in the nose, knocking him out of the frame, instead saying that he loves TV and TV is not dead and he loves awesome shows like CSI Miami with the sunglasses and the serious drama (heh). It was also funny because the show CSI: Miami is up against Fillion’s Castle on Monday nights, so … I loved the slight dig.

They fooled around a bit, then “Moist” and “Penny” popped in to harmonize with Horrible and Hammer, about how they won an Emmy already that night (I assume that’s the one Joss won for the Sing-a-long Blog) but they said they weren’t sure so (they sang) “it’s an honor to be nom-i-nated…” It was cute.

Overall, it was a very funny bit, and it amused me that the bit cut into the accountants ‘explaining’ how they tabulate the results for the awards show, and then cut back into the Emmy program just as the accountants were ‘wrapping up’ their explaination. Clever.

I found this year’s Emmys to be much more entertaining than past years’ productions. I felt for the most part it moved faster, the jokes were funnier (except that sight gag bit with the ‘guest fan’ with the lousy seating, which was generally pointless), and Neil as host was engaging, quick-witted and charming. I hope he hosts again next year (and next year I hope he wins an Emmy in his category, damn it!).
