Speculation, here we come!

Dylan Baker, the actor who played the minor role of Dr. Curt Connors in the last two Spider-Man movies has confirmed that he’ll be in Spider-Man 4. Now, this doesn’t mean we’ll be seeing his scaly alter ego known as The Lizard, but it sure wouldn’t be surprising.

Even if The Lizard wasn’t making his appearance, we’d expect Dr. Curt Connors to play at least a small part again. It wouldn’t make sense to have him involved in the plot of Spider-Man 2 & 3 then throw him away.

During the Q&A segment for a Trick ‘r Treat presentation on Wednesday, Mr. Baker was asked about his involvement in the next Sam Raimi Spidey adventure and he said he was on-board but that he’d just be a smaller background character again.

Online speculation from polls and forums seems to bring up two names consistently: Lizard and Carnage. While I don’t like the idea of going with another symbiotic villain after Venom’s poor turn-out in Spider-Man 3, I do think seeing Mr. Connors transform into The Lizard and finally having two arms again is an obvious choice, even if he’s a minor villain for the next movie.

The last we heard from director Sam Raimi on the topic of Spider-Man 4 villains was that he really liked the idea of The Lizard but that he didn’t know too much about Carnage. Take from that what you will but it’s possible none of what they say is true. Perhaps the denied Morbius could still be a villain choice since his story does mesh perfectly with The Lizard. There’s also that rumor of Bruce Campbell playing Mysterio, but all we know for sure is that Campbell will have a bigger role in Spider-Man 4.

Are you happy to know that Dylan Baker will be acting in Spider-Man 4? What do you think the story implications of this are?

Spider-Man 4 is planned for an early March production start and is scheduled to hit theaters May 6, 2011, the summer of the superhero.

  1. Y’know what? It just occurred to me.

If Bruce were a villain I would agree on Mysterio (or more specifically, *Quentin Beck* without the fishbowl headgear for most of the film) or Alistair Smythe. I did think about one of the Vulture personas, such as Toomes when the character found a way to “reverse” his age or perhaps the Professor Shallot Vulture….but then…

Who said Bruce Campbell would play a villain? All we are told is that he’s have a bigger part that his previous bit roles.

  2. LOl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There`s no reason to put those villains in the movie, what are you gonna do, kiss the DVD format after you see them on screen? Are you falling asleep during what i say, suggesting my opinion is “dumb” and your`s “isn`t”? Not saying your opinion is “dumb”, but i`m just saying those villains like Mysterio look goofy on screen and are complete getto.

Anyway, no matter what i guess they can`t recover the series from SM3, though that`s all logic in my opinion.

Also i never minded Kirsten Dunst in the movies at all. SHe looked nothing different from Mj, so her being a redhead like Mary Jane is nothing to spill coffee over being so vague about.

Also Maguire will be 34/35 years old when they start filming. How will they still still make him look like a mid-life grown 20/21 year-old college student?

  3. X out the word still twice there

  4. “Anyway, no matter what i guess they can`t recover the series from SM3, though that`s all logic in my opinion.”

I doubt that. Just because “Spider-man 3″ was crap doesn’t mean that this film will suffer the same fate. But, I can tell you right now that I won’t be rushing to the theatre to see it like I did with “Spider-man 3″. But, there is still hope. Lets just hope Raimi and the studio learned from the mistakes of the previous film.

  5. i didn`t say SM4 will suffer the same fate, i`m just saying Spiderman 3 made the series look completely cascade. It embarrased the series and made it look weird going through the type of world peter lives in. That`s why i`m saying even if the 4th one is better it`ll never recover from the utter flaws made on Sm3.

  6. @ John, right on man,
TOBEY looked old as hell in 3, dudes not aging smoothly

and that teaser poster is a joke, it could mean literally anything, and it looks like more a form of hope than anything foreboding.

remember 3′s teaser poster, now thats a teaser
you couldnt tell if the red and blue was there but darkened, the rain, Black Suit??
    good stuff

  7. THE LIZARD IS YOUR BEST BET FOR A STRONG COMEBACK..IN THE COMICS, THE LIZARD WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR SPIDERMANS RETIREMENT.

  8. rich,

I think if i cared about this film after 3 i`d say i`m fed up they waited this long to start filming cuz this is the issue studios don`t see, the right time to film before their actors get too old. I`m not saying Maguire is an old man in general, but even if he was about 22 in the first one i think he could still play an 18-year old highschool student. Many actors who are really older than they are in the movie can actually look the age the story makes them, such as Shia Labeouf, and others. Though he actually looked pretty youbng in the first one, i still think he`d be perfect as the role if he was about a few years younger, even though there are actors that were made to look about 18/19 years old in their late 20`s. It would be amazing if they made maguire look like a 20/21 year old college kkid but it hardly matters anymore after 3. This franchise is a complete disaster.

  9. The lizard would be cool, but they’d have to do it well. They’d have to make sure to not use all CGI or make him look fake. I think Kraven the Hunter would be great.

  10. ” I think Kraven the Hunter would be great.”

No no, guys, it`s SUPPOSED TO BE CARNAGE!!!!!!! But Carnage should`ve been in the last 50 minutes of SM5 after Venom was setup for Sm5, though if it waited till SM5 people`s ideas would be clammed in and they would mix in the wrong plots. You guys really think that those villains those villans would work, don`t you. But i`m not trying to talk mousy.

  11. When i said Kirsten being a redhead, i think i meant them making or trying to make her a redhead. LoL

  12. i love the lizard great cast.i think the best villains for the next few spiderman films are the lizard, doc ock,the symbiotes, scorpion, kraven, and mysterio.

  13. The teaser poster wasnt fake, as there is one by the Odeon in Leicester Square in london!

  14. Hey,so I saw this and was wondering if there is still going to be a spider man 4 since there wasn’t one that I know of that came out in 2011 like it said on here? Thanks
