I feel like every time we talk about one these new upcoming Wizard of Oz sequels we have to first distinguish just which one of the four films we're talking about:

If you haven't yet guessed from the post title, we're talking about the animated film Dorothy of Oz. The cast list and early artwork for the film were recently revealed, now we're getting a look at some artwork from the film.

The story for Dorothy of Oz is based on the book by Roger S. Baum, the great-grandson of Wizard of Oz creator L. Frank Baum. The story involves Dorothy and Toto returning to the land of Oz and reuniting with The Scarecrow, The Tin Man and The (formerly cowardly) Lion, in order to stop a mischievous Jester who has obtained the wand of The Wicked Witch of the West and is using it to turn the inhabitants of Oz into puppets.

This animated film will have an all-star voice cast, including Glee's Lea Michelle as Dorothy, Dan Aykroyd as The Scarecrow, Kelsey Grammar as The Tin Man, and Jim Belushi as The Lion, along with Hugh Dancy, Patrick Stewart, Oliver Platt, and Martin Short as The Jester.

Ok, so obviously having all these Oz films in the works is bit of overload, but I think that Dorothy of Oz will stand apart from some of the other films in that it looks to be squarely aimed at the kids - unlike, say, Raimi's Oz, the Great and Powerful, which will have Robert Downey Jr. (supposedly) getting into some adult-themed hijinks as the famous wizard of the O-Z.

So, as far as Dorothy of Oz goes: the concept art looks good, the character designs look good, the voice cast is pretty stellar, and if the 3D is done right then this should be an very enjoyable return to the land of the yellow brick road (especially for the young ones).

Dorothy of Oz is slated to hit theaters in April of 2012.
