I don’t know much about Irish politics but I have to say that I’m a big fan of Tom Clancy’s novels. For the record I also thought that Harrison Ford was horribly miscast as Jack Ryan.

My preference would have been for Alec Baldwin to continue in the role as I thought he perfectly personified Ryan in “The Hunt for Red October.”

I liked Baldwin- but he was overshadowed by Connery “Shhailing into hishstory”

LOL. :-) True… it’s hard to out-screen-presence Connery.

I still think Brandon Routh would make a good Ryan. Although…something tells me we’ll be seeing ALOT of MAN OF STEEL news…soon…

As a fan of Clancy’s novels, I have to say I’ve got mixed feelings about this new movie. By moving away from the books, they open up new possibilities, and are better able to keep Ryan in the action directly. They also don’t have to worry about cropping more than half the book to make the story fit into the movie’s running time.

On the other hand, while Clancy may be a little weak on the non-military details, he does write some entertaining, and complex stories, and I’ve been looking forward to seeing what could be done with some of the other books on screen.

In any case, I don’t know enough about this actor, or what he’s done, to comment on his casting. I’ll just have to wait and see how he does.

Well there you go, SPOLIER ALERT looks like Darfur is the next Hot-Zone for
Jack Ryan. Neato shirt, actor guy!
I bet the next shirt we see him in is an Obama T,
^

This guy DOSN’T look like Jack Ryan to me at all!
^
He looks more like the dude I met the other day trying to get me to join Greenpeace. Or that guy Rob from Cloverfield. Kinda

Flame, yeah… I love the complexity of Clancy’s novels. The fact that adults have told me how awesome the Harry Potter books are slay me. I read the first one and compared to Clancy and Grisham it was like reading a Hardy Boys story.

God yes to Meirelles. But Gosling? Sorry Ryan, but I have a very hard time envisioning you as…Ryan…you know what I mean!

Not surprised in the least that Paramount is making another JACK RYAN film. Quality not withstanding, the series has always been a reliable money-maker for them. But doing a second “re-boot” is…iffy at best.

Something tells me if GIGLI has nothing come along, we’d have already seen RED RABBIT a few years back with Affleck as Ryan again. If you’ll remember, Clancy re-wrote that book to center around a “young Jack Ryan” after he saw THE SUM OF ALL FEARS and dug the Hell outta Affleck’s performance.
