Don LaFontaine has died at the age of 68.
If you don’t know who Don is, let me spark your memory… think movie trailers and then:
“In a world…”
His voice is probably one of the most recognizable in America, but not his face. At least now you can see what this gentleman looked like, although I wish it wasn’t on such a sad occasion.
Don passed Monday away following complications from Pneumothorax, the presence of air or gas in the pleural cavity, the result of a collapsed lung.

He has worked on almost 5,000 films and was not too proud to poke fun at himself in a recent Geico commercial.
And here is a 5 minute video biography of Don:
Some people may mistake Don LaFontaine with Hal Douglas, who has a similar voice.
Don is survived by his wife, singer/actress Nita Whitaker, and three children: Christine, Skye and Elyse.

sorry about repeating that last post ,
but this was important enough that I had to get it right .
count me as one of the inspired by that voice that took me on more journeys of the imagination and more adventures then I can count .
Yah that’s too bad. The movie business would not be the same without him. He definitely died WAY before his time, but at least he could say that in the many years he has been in the business that he has probably been involved with more films than any other individual.
I worked with Don when he was working in NY writing trailer scripts for his production company. I met Don while I was working for another giant in the industry, Floyd L Peterson. (POUND) My name is Dick Ward (Sound Effects Editor). Don always dressed like a model-He was sharp as-a-tack- everyday- Don You were the BEST..thanks for being my friend when I worked at Sound Production, in NY. You will be missed. The film industry has lost a GIANT voice over technican…
I knew the name but couldn’t place it, but as soon as I read the words ‘In a world…’ that was more than enough.
One of the most recognisable voices in movies to me.
R.I.P. Buddy. The silence of your voice no more will be deafening.
Don Lafontaine has been a great asset, and movie trailers will no longer be the same. May his soul RIP and my prayers are with his family.
Don, you will be miseed!
