Yea, that seemed a bit unfair to wait 6 weeks to rip someone who wrote a perspective on one hours worth of experience that had been infected with Fox Network's interference.

I guess we should have waited 10 weeks to give a first impression so it could be saturated with a season's insight of viewing.

WTH were we thinking?

@Mari

This review was written based on the FIRST episode, so lighten up. And where does the review indicate that the "keepers" AREN'T the villains? Of COURSE they are.

If you don't like experimental shows then go watch the Simpsons. The concept has a great over reaching arc. Its easy to root for Echo. Its easy to feel like you could end up like her if someone doesn't end that tech. You people are obviusly wrong, because this is looking like a very popular show, and it needs no tweaking. The idea that people should not be treated as ojects is very clearly the big message of the show. So you are feeling exactly how Joss wants you to feel.

Their libido has been erased. Aren't you paying attention? Its hard to take your review seriously. They repeat the definition of blank slate(tabula rasa) a million times. They tell the audience they are in a child like state. Also, I happen to be very slender and I can beat my brother arm wrestling. My close friend is model skinny, and she is super strong. Muscles are shaped differently in different people. Wiry people are often very strong.
Stop rolling your eyes. The show is very clear on the fct that the Dollhouse keepers are the villians. Have you even watched the whole show?

I liked it, and like Josh being back on the tube. Yes, I agree with other commentor on programmer character being deeper/smarter/conflicted more than many comments against him, this is a TV show, and you need to give Josh some chance to develop the character.

You folks are all a bit harsh about the concept, it has yet to gel, but to watch one episode of something very different and to pan it so quickly...???

I will give it a go. I was not an early fan of Buffy, but it won me big time. And firefly was great. The problem is mainstream TV's model is broken, not Josh Whedon's model. He will make it great unless FOX screws him.

This was barely watchable. I like Wheadon's work but this episode was poorly made. The show jumped the shark when she walked in the door as a hostage negotiator with one button too many undone on her blouse.

THERE WILL BE SOMEONE TO ROOT FOR:

Echo is going to start wanting to figure out who she was and a self awareness comes around.

I hope they don't wait too long to start the sub-plot.

Well, I respect Whedon's ability to churn out great concepts and stories, but I have to say that I've always been a bit weary of this one and I still am. I enjoyed it, and I'll keep watching it, but there is certainly room for improvement. Joss had better tweak it, or it won't last. Fox won't even great shows a time slot, a shaky one is going to get axed quickly. An incredible show is in there, hiding behind some... other stuff.

I really want this one to make it. I miss Joss on TV.

oh and my prediction:

Harry Lennix joins Tahmoh Pinikett to help bring down Dollhouse.

Show will probably be cancelled soon... if not, Fox is just keeping it on to say they're not cancelled it like they did other great shows

The main problem with this show for me is that there no big cool story that'll bring me back.

For Lost, it's the fact that they're on this crazy supernatural island and need to get off and/or survive.

For BSG, humanity is wiped out and the very few survivors left need to find a new home and life.

For Fringe, the mysteries of the Mad Scientist and his past are coming to fruition as he tries as he remembers his past experiments and how/where/why he hid/hindered/cancelled experiements and they try to solve what's going on with the Pattern which seems correlated with his research.

For this shows it's... Tahmoh Pinikett needs to find this Dollhouse and shut it down? That's really the only overall continuing arc presented... the rest is just dolls on random missions or "engagements" as the leader of the Dollhouse would correct me with. There was that document labelled "Alpha" at the end so I don't know what that means.

This premiere was very ordinary and there was no standout favourable character like Whedon is usually famous for providing.

I have an idea. Use that timeslot to bring back Firefly - people would be all over that. Summer Glau's Terminator aint doing so hot so she can star in both shows until they're cancelled

I gotta agree that the premise is inherently flawed. If the main character is a blank slant then there's nobody to root for. In my mind, the way to redeem the show/character is to have Echo rebel against the Dollhouse. She could save all the other dolls and teach them about free will, etc. meanwhile helping random individuals on a weekly basis.

Oh wait, Fox already made a show like that didn't they? Anybody remember Dark Angel?

That being said, I have always really enjoyed Whedon's projects before. I am willing to give some leeway as he pulls the show together. My main qualm is that I never understood the point of the prostitute character in Firefly and this just seems like he's retreading on that same ground.

This show reminds me of the anime 'Gun Slinger girl'. The basic idea seems to be the same. Female assasins who's minds are wiped after each mission. Lets hope this show is at least half as good.

I just have this to say about "Drole-house".
The minds of the writers, proucers, AND EVEN Mr. Whedon should be wiped after actually putting this farce out there!
Sorry if I'm coming off a tad heavy here...but I for one am sick an tired of being presented with intentionally strange or ill conceived "May I have you're wierd assed order, please" television!
Is there actually such a dearth of imagination in hollywood that this kind of ill conceived crap is actually acceptable?
Kill me, Kill me now...

Thanx for letting me vent...

Well, I agree with you about the first episode in general; I wasn't thrilled. But I'm a bit baffled at the reasons for which you didn't like the one character. If anything, I got the sense that he does feel a little bit bad about what he's doing and he seems to have legit concern for Echo.

I'll watch a couple more episodes before I give up, but I would bet that this character is going to be a major player in long term plot development. Specifically the ethics of what he is doing and having to struggle with those feelings and having to come to terms with them.

The show felt slow to me. I liked how they put the faults into the people, even if it was only put in to give Echo a reason to know what the hell the guy was going to do to his associates. It felt slow, but it got good at the end. Good enough to make me want to see the next episode.

The whole concept of having your memory wiped and being able to be reprogrammed is freaky beyond belief. It's essentially like they are robots. It's freaky. . . and I hope it gets better.
