Fans of the Gallifreyan traveler can add one more thing to the long list of changes we can expect on the new series of Doctor Who premiering in 2010, as one surreptitious fan caught a glimpse of the TARDIS on location in a churchyard. And while it doesn’t appear to actually be bigger on the inside, there’s something different about our favorite time-traveling police box. Luckily, the furtive fan also brought along a camera so I don’t have to describe it (because I’m horrible at descriptions).

“There are lights and stairs.”

See!

While you’re not able to distinguish everything that’s been changed by looking at the photos, you can tell that they’ve added these small platforms that ascend to another level. Oh yeah, I think they’re called stairs (See! Bad description once again). If you look closely, you can see that they’ve added a second level in the main console area for the newly regenerated Doctor to peruse.

There are so many changes happening to Doctor Who that I’ve given up having a reaction to each and every one of them as they popped up. Although, I’ve got say that I’m not really a fan of adding stairs. Sure, the doctor has regenerated so he’s new. He’s picks up a new companion so she’s new. I just don’t see how that adds up to the interior of the TARDIS getting an upgrade. If the TARDIS is in the upgrade business, you would think that it would have fixed the chameleon circuit that has been broken for almost 50 years instead of focusing on adding a more cool/hip vibe to the control room.

Take a look at some of the pictures below for a closer look at what we can expect for our youthful Doctor and companion.

Am I over-thinking this? Sure, but that’s what I do and that’s what people love about me. (It’s also why I used to get beat up in high school, but we won’t talk about that. Well, not without a cup of hot chocolate with extra mini-marshmallows.)

Be sure to check out the renovated TARDIS on the new series of Doctor Who starting in 2010.

The Master’s TARDIS has been a grandfather clock, Roman pillar, a bush, a fireplace, and a giant computer that I remember. His kamelian circuit worked.

Every time the Doctor has tried to fix anything on the TARDIS it just messes something else up. The 6th Doctor tried repairing the kamelian circuit and it just materialized as random junk. He gave up on it and went back to the police box.

The interior of the TARDIS has changed over the regenerations, so I have no problem with it changing for the 11th too.

  2. The inside of the tardis is round resembling the Crashed tardises in the final episode of the end of time (Part 2) Please note fans these were tardises as they had gallifrean symbols over them. The sides are segment with four stairs out. Instead of coming in and walking straight to the middle of the tardis you come in and go down the stairs to the tardis console which has also been updated although it retains the original design.

Oh and a ton of you are talking about bad episodes you`ve seen her are my top 5:

5.Blink (A good episode but wasnt as fun as the rest of them)
4.42 (Not the answer to life the universe and everything. A nice episode but didnt feel like doctor who more like the film “Sunshine”
3/2.Human nature/The family of blood (Although the plot was a bit silly i still thought it could have been better. The action was made sillier with slow mo which is something there bringing back for series 5)
    1. The last of the timelords (Building upon the awesome climatic way the sound of drums had ended i thought we would actually have a huge confrontation but instead the episode spends time waisting itself with some minor subplots such as a gun that could kill a timelord or the Toclafane being human or the year that never was although marthas return was great along with the doctor becoming the masters worse nightmare. The minute a paradox was mentioned you could tell the doctor is going to reverse it. Its a joke in the series. Everytime a paradox is mentioned the doctor destroys something and everything goes back to normal)

  3. Vaguely steampunk…

  4. Kai ora I posted this somewhere else but I'm doubling it up here.

WOW we will get to see alternate control rooms in an episode coming up, backup control room maybe so to speak. More of the of the TARDIS – Yippee something we have all missed under the helm of RTD.

How does it play out in my head. As the current control room is trashed and the TARDIS is crashing Doctor needs another. – Dashes off into the deepest parts of the TARDIS – (and here's the part I like ) – glances in on past control rooms perhaps – finally comes across “Blue Perter set” with seconds enough only for materialising all be it badly (Blue Peter set trashed like last control room – sorry kids). At end of episode (Better be a 2 parter!!!) Doctor has time to explore TARDIS and find a suitable replacement control room.

p.s. an opinion from “Middle Earth down under ” – Matt Smith is gonna ROCK!!!. I have been watching Doctor Who since the late 60's (all be it from behind the couch – yet .. I couldn't not watch it.) The only other TV I remember from that time was something landing on the moon.

    Long live Doctor Who.

  6. They wrote it into part of the script, as ten's regeneration into eleven went a bit awry and he badly damaged the TARDIS with his energy. Hence the new look.

  7. (this may turn into a rant sorry) Personally,
I like Matt Smith, he seems like a promising Doctor and he is still funny and sarcastic but in his own doctorish way which is great. And I love Stephen Moffat episodes before so I have no doubt about the writing.
However I really do not like the new logo, tunnel, the green light on the sonic screwdriver, or the outside and the inside of the TARDIS.
There was no need to make those changes and it feels like they are going to completely forget the whole other series. It feels like Doctor Who has gone away again for like twenty years and now come back to appeal to completely different audience. It should be a continuation, it was supposed to be the same man with different face, he should remember Rose, Martha, (and Donna) and I really hope they talk about Torchwood and Bad Wolf because they were big parts of the Doctors life, and we need to see Captain Jack again! Its supposed to be the same story not a new one. Also David Tennant when he left was feeling alone and hurt and although its supposed to be a new Doctor and new personality, he needs to not ignore thoughts feelings but deal with them like before. The TARDIS dash board thing, looks too neat and the bit in the middle that goes up and down when travelling looks too posh.
The sonic screwdriver light should be BLUE not green, if they feel the need to change the screwdriver to sell more merchandise then do so, change it to gold but keep the light blue. :(
And why is there a silly little round logo on the TARDIS and again it looks too new and neat. The TARDIS is supposed to be the last of its kind, old and battered but love by the Doctor.
Also the tbh the new title looks rubbish, I preferred the other one, it looked better, more up-to-date and it looked like it was going through time, not a thunder cloud.

But I look forward to the rest of the series to see how the Doctor grows and settles into his personality. And how my little vent might prove to be wrong. It's only the first episode :)
