We’re two days away from the next episode of Doctor Who, and the trailer is out and ready to whet your appetite. The episode, titled “Kill the Moon,” marks the start of the second half of Peter Capaldi’s inaugural season as everyone’s favorite time lord.
For this week’s adventure, as we summarized for you a little while ago, “The Doctor and Clara find themselves on a space shuttle making a suicide mission to the moon. Crash-landing on the lunar surface, they find a mining base full of corpses, vicious spider-like creatures poised to attack, and a terrible dilemma. But when Clara turns to the Doctor for help, she gets the shock of her life.”
The trailer further elucidates this “terrible dilemma.” Well, sort of.
Clara (VO): Hello Earth, we have a terrible decision to make. An innocent life versus the future of all mankind.
The Doctor (VO): Whatever future humanity might have depends upon the choice that is made right here, right now.
These voice-overs are followed by some nice, creepy shots of a very derelict moon base, and several mummified astronauts in spider webs. So regardless of what the decision is we can be sure that there are going to be lots of those Alien-esque spiders running around.
We can also be fairly certain that Clara and The Doctor’s decision will not result in the death of the moon, the death of all of humanity, nor the death of the one innocent life (this is a kid’s show after all).
In addition to the trailer, we have stills from the coming episode. Check them out below:

It seems from the stills that troublesome student Courtney Woods (Ellis George) has tagged along for this week’s ride, while Clara’s beau Mr. Pink has not. Also, anyone who remembers the series Wire in The Blood will be delighted at the guest-starring turn by Hermione Norris (pictured above, right). For those not familiar, Wire in the Blood was one of the best and darkest serial killer procedurals to come out of Britain in the mid-aughts – and there were a lot of serial killer procedurals for some reason.
Norris played DCI Jordan opposite eccentric and probably insane clinical psychologist Tony Hill (Robson Green) and spent most of her time keeping him sane, so Norris has lots of experience being the calm, collected voice of reason opposite a raving lunatic who might kill us all. Or at the very least, kill the moon.
Doctor Who season 8, episode 7: “Kill the Moon” airs Saturday, October 4 at 9:00pm ET on BBC and BBC America
