I respect David for taking this chance and trying something new. I mean, maybe he’s thinking about his personal life and wanting to do what makes him happy and not do what is guaranteed to make more money. Plus, like you said, being stuck in the same role would be no good!

I agree, bring Russell T. Davies in the mix! That would be a total coup if it ever happens. I love David Tennant and I would watch the show, and hope for the best. He’s too good of an actor not to be seen by American audiences! His Hamlet is even more lauded upon that Jude Law’s while both were playing in the UK.

I will miss him in “Doctor Who”. He will always be my Doctor.

In a perfect world this would be a RTD series but since it won’t be I can only hope that the producers of the show will hire strong writers for the show.

I’d be a lot happier if the series wasn’t on NBC but on USA network (owned by NBC Universal) where characters are welcome and they seem to cultivate their series more by repeating the new shows in rotation to gain audience exposure.

IMHO network television is stuck in the 21st century and really should adopt a better way of promoting new shows.

Oh yes I am a DT fan so I’ll watch the series. Even if its a failure I’ll get my DT fix.

I read the comments above–the nay sayers and doom predictors and then I think–it’s David Tennant–and I have no worries–He can do anything and I will watch this program. I can’t wait. :)

I think there is a lot of potential for versatility in the character. Panic attacks? I can certainly see David carrying them off. Then he switches into a hyperactive mood to disguise the panic attack. (I have some experience with panic attacks). Yes, if I had to have anyone portraying anxiety disorders, I would trust that DT could do it well without going over the top (most panic attacks are private, so it’s not a flashy dramatic moment).
I’m a bit concerned about the writing staff, with about three weeks of experience between them. That leaves a huge vacuum that could be filled by … Russell T Davies? Just imagine the show with DT and RTD back together again! Enough to fuel rumors for months!

The show WILL work with DT and RTD. Does DT have enough clout to bring RTD into the mix? I sure hope so!

I’m a little discouraged to see that IMDB says that it is filming but there are no other cast members listed. Not good. The pilot process is difficult. Without a strong hand at the helm they will just try a zillion different things, which, as you know from baking, is disasterous for a cake, and even worse for a TV show.

It could go either way. I’ll be watching…

I heard that they are thinking Tennant will be like Hugh Laurie from House. Did you know most people don’t even know Hugh Laurie isn’t american? Really, I was shocked.

That’s the thing… if it’s well written I’ll watch it, but the people who created the show and are writing it are literally unknown.

They have acting credits like “cop 4″ in NCIS or “agent z” in CSI and their only writing credit is film that I’ve never heard of.

I’m a little disappointed by this move of David Tennant’s. I completely agree with the article… “Doctor Who” (of which I am a fan) is well scripted and acted.

I think that if David Tennant had regular access to NBC, he might have joined a different network.
