Two new Dungeons & Dragons comics, At the Spine of the World and Stranger Things and Dungeons & Dragons, were announced today at #DnDLive2020. Drawing inspiration from the new campaign sourcebook Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden, Dungeons & Dragons: At the Spine of the World from IDW Publishing explores the frozen tracks of northern Faerûn, while Stranger Things and Dungeons & Dragons from Dark Horse Comics takes readers inside the adventure campaign Will, Lucas, Mike, and Dustin play in the hit Netflix series, Stranger Things.

DnDLive, Wizards of the Coast’s annual Dungeons & Dragons upcoming product announcement and fan-celebration has been, until this year, an in-person, interactive gaming and entertainment event, previously held in Seattle and in Los Angeles. With the worldwide pandemic levying a level 20 curse spell on the gaming world, DnDLive2020 has been reimagined as a virtual event streaming on Twitch, YouTube, and on social media. This year’s remote affairs from June 18 through June 20 brings “D&D’s brightest stars to this virtual table to preview the latest D&D storyline with live gaming sessions, all while raising money for Red Nose Day to help children affected by the COVID-19 outbreak.”

Principal Rules Designer for D&D.” And the cast of HBO’s epic fantasy series Game of Thrones reunites for a special Dungeons & Dragons delve with fan-favorites Kristian Nairn (Hodor), Daniel Portman (Podrick), Iwan Rheon (the lovable Ramsay Bolton), Natalia Tena (the wildling Osha), and Gemma Whelan (Yara Greyjoy).

At DnDLive2020 hosts Anna Prosser and Mica Burton, both of Critical Role fame, introduced two new Dungeons & Dragons comics from a pair of creative teams from IDW Publishing and Dark Horse Comics. Writers AJ Mendez and Aimee Garcia lead a new DnD series from IDW Publishing titled Dungeons & Dragons: At the Spine of the World, after the frozen mountain range cutting through the northern reaches of the Sword Coast of the Forgotten Realms. Tying the story arc to the new Dungeons and Dragons adventure, Rime of the Frost Maiden, the comic bases the action in Icewind Dale with new characters Rue, barbarian and sworn defender of Iceland Dale, and her ally, Amos, as well as Patience the Tiefling and Belvyre the Halfling. Scheduled to hit stores October 21, 2020, Dungeons & Dragons: At the Spine of the World is illustrated by Martin Coccolo, whose artistic work includes Wizards of the Coast’s Magic the Gathering comic Path of Vengeance from IDW.

Additionally, DnDLive2020 broke news of a new Stranger Things and Dungeons & Dragons crossover comic from Dark Horse. Stranger Things comic writer Jody Houser joins the prolific Dungeons & Dragons comic writer, Jim Zub for a glimpse into the DnD campaign Will the Wise, Lucas the Knight, Dustin the Dwarf, and Dungeon Master Mike play in the Netflix original series, Stranger Things. Jody Houser calls Stranger Things “a time capsule of the era” and Stranger Things and Dungeons & Dragons promise nostalgia and a deep dive into the lore of early day of the swords and sorcery roleplaying game. As Science teacher Mr. Clarke maintains, "Once you open up that curiosity door, anything is possible." Look for Stranger Things and Dungeons & Dragons from Dark Horse Comics this November 3, 2020.
