In Divergent, Neil Burger's upcoming sci-fi action movie based on the young adult novel series by Veronica Roth, protagonist Beatrice "Tris" Prior (Shailene Woodley) lives in a version of the USA that was been plagued by war and subsequently segregated into five different factions, each representing a particular virtue. After discovering the deadly secret that she is 'Divergent,' and doesn't clearly belong to any particular faction, Tris decides to leave her family home in the faction of Abegnation and join Dauntless, where bravery is the key to survival.

A new featurette for Divergent shows Shailene Woodley's stomach-churning leap (luckily aided by wires) off a building, which is part of the trials that Tris must undergo in order to prove that she is worthy of joining the Dauntless faction. The featurette also gives a good look at some of the tattoos of the Divergent world, including Tris' collarbone tattoo of three flying birds, Four's (Theo James) extensive back tattoos and Eric's (Jai Courtney) neck tattoos.

The video also includes a few more clips of Kate Winslet in what looks like a satisfyingly evil role as Jeanine Matthews, leader of the Erudite faction and the main antagonist of the film. Not only is Jeanine the mastermind behind some nasty subterfuge, she's also determined to root out and destroy Divergents like Tris. Watch closely as the short clips flash by, and it's also possible to see a lot of the sets that were built for various locations in the book.

While some of the footage we've seen from Divergent so far seems a little too overt with its message of teenage non-conformism ("They Can't Control You" and "Don't Try and Define Me" sound like track titles from an Avril Lavigne album), this is also likely to make it more relatable for its key demographic of teens and young people. While modern society isn't exactly the segregated dystopia depicted in Divergent, youths are nonetheless expected to make major decisions about their planned future careers at quite an early age, and almost everyone has felt a little stifled by social and family pressures at some point in their lives.

Based on this featurette and the first trailer that was released earlier this week, do you think Divergent has what it takes to reach the heights of The Hunger Games and become a full movie franchise, or is it more likely that we'll only ever see an adaptation of the first book?
