Disney’s upcoming D23 Expo is confirmed to feature Star Wars Battlefront II and other titles as part of their video game showcase. Every year, people look forward to industry events like San Diego Comic-Con and the Electronic Entertainment Expo, in which companies from all corners of the entertainment industry come together to showcase their lineup of products. Although Disney makes an appearance at those events, D23 is where they shine, since it’s their personal expo that they host every two years.
The last D23 was in 2015, and it was a big year for Disney; they were promoting the impending releases of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: Battlefront, Pirates of the Caribbean 5, Captain America: Civil War, Finding Dory, and the brand new theme park, Shanghai Disney Resort, among other things. Now, two years later, the Mouse House is gearing up to showcase another slate of upcoming products, movies, TV shows, and of course, video games.
Disney has confirmed on their official D23 Expo website that they will be showcasing Star Wars Battlefront II and Kingdom Hearts III during their presentation, “Level Up! The Walt Disney Company’s Video Game Showcase”, on Saturday, July 15 at 1 pm PDT. It appears that Disney has only named those two games since they have both been previously-announced, though they are also promising other tantalizing reveals such as “never-before-seen gameplay, trailers, special guests, and other unforgettable surprises” from their Star Wars, Marvel, and main Disney portfolios.
Electronic Arts (EA) and DICE have already revealed the first Battlefront II gameplay at E3 2017, so they could possibly be showing off new maps, locations, or characters for the game, considering that Battlefront is currently the flagship Star Wars gaming property for not only EA but Disney as well. In regards to Kingdom Hearts III, Square Enix previously teased a new trailer and a new world reveal during D23 Expo this summer. However, most people would be content with learning the game’s official release date. Since Disney is promising “show-stopping moments” from those games as well as Marvel, perhaps we’ll see more from Insomniac’s Spider-Man PS4 game or another Marvel property that we aren’t aware of yet.
In addition to the video games, rumors suggest that the official title for the upcoming young Han Solo spinoff film will be revealed along with details about Disney’s future live-action remakes and adaptations, such as Ava Duvernay’s A Wrinkle in Time. Plus, considering the tease/easter egg people discovered at Disney’s California Adventure earlier this summer, perhaps we’ll also hear about Disney Parks & Resorts’ plans for bringing more Marvel-themed rides to their theme parks. We’ll just have to wait and see.
Disney’s D23 Expo 2017 runs from Friday, July 14 to Sunday, July 16.
