Actually, while it looks funny in English, the Russian pronunciation is quite distinct from the word you’re hinting at, Richard. That “i” has the sound of “ee” (as in, “eek”), and the a doesn’t get reduced to a “schwa” sound, either.

I’m an English teacher in Moscow and I’ve been very excited at the prospect of seeing this. I’d like subtitles but I think I could probably get on okay without them- I won’t get every detail but I think I should get the main ideas, esp. since it’s Disney doing folktales. Some of the best films I’ve seen have required subtitles, and I’d never not watch a film because of that generally (I might simply put it off to another time if I were tired or wanted to multitask- you can’t read papers and subtitles simultaneously).

As far as the subtitles are concerned, more people really SHOULD give them a chance.
I actually use them as a teaching tool. My little one can actually learn while watching the tube, and he’s very proud of himself when he can read them. We’ve discovered a lot of very good children’s films that way. And his vocabulary and reading skills are well above his 6 yr old level.
And if you haven’t watched “Let the Right One In” because it has subtitles, you are really missing out.

I think it looks fun, more geared towards kids then LOTR tho, in fact i don think it will have much on LOTR in any way. But for a Disney movie, especially a foreign one, it looks cool.

Well, it seems that the Russians are getting into the business of doing it better than Hollywood too. Black Lightning and this one look pretty darned impressive, even if my Russian is non-existent, I still like what I saw. I would see these films even with subtitles.

I guarantee that there will be some sort of uproar about the title.I’m not certain how to pronounce it,but phonetically,Kniga looks to sound a little to similar to the “N” word.I’m sure someone is gonna get offended.
