The recent Disney/Marvel partnership is still sending ripples out across the blogosphere. How will it affect the current state of comics? What impact will it have on Marvel Studios’ production schedule? So much was already happening at Marvel Studios with their epic slate of upcoming films, now they’ll be capable of exploring new territories as we (hopefully) get to see an expansion of their production capacity thanks to Disney’s vastly superior resources.
In light of the major news surrounding Disney and Marvel, we have for you some pictures of new characters born out of the merger between the two media juggernauts as well as some words about the corporate happenings from Stan Lee, the genius creator behind so many of the comics and characters we know and love today.
Stan Lee, a legend of the comic book industry, couldn’t be more happy about the Disney acquisition. In a statement to MTV, he revealed his feelings about the merger and how he believes it’ll benefit everyone greatly in the long run:
“I couldn’t be happier with this agreement… It’s [a] great move for Disney, for Marvel and for my company Pow! Entertainment since Pow! has a first-look deal with Disney. From every point of view, the merger of Disney and Marvel is a match made in heaven.”
“Just imagine… with this deal Marvel gives Disney a library of literally hundreds of unique and colorful characters that have the potential to make great, high-concept movies and long-lasting franchises—and nobody knows how to play in that ball park better than Disney… This is a great day for the two companies and for the entertainment community as a whole. To sum it up as simply as possible, when you combine the best with the best, everyone wins!”
Obvious biases aside, Stan the Man makes some good points and he’s not wrong in anything he’s optimistic about. The hopes of myself and I’m sure all Marvel fans and moviegoers is that we get many more movies from Marvel Studios. I’m excited for the first announcements of what will come in addition to the Marvel Studios films already in development, including Iron Man 2, The First Avenger: Captain America, Thor and The Avengers.
Now, on to the fun stuff… New characters!

Sub-Mariner meets The Little Mermaid.
stan lee is lying!!
What the article forgot to mention was, after Stan Lee reassured everyone that Disney acquiring Marvel was a good thing, he immediately wiped the sweat off his forehead with a stack of $100 bills
Time will tell. Hoping for the best, but I’m still skeptical.
love to see thingerella… mind you who’d be the foolish stepmother willing to mess with that??????
Still haven’t made my mind up about it. I usually don’t like it if big companies buy smaller ones, in terms of one company gets too much power in the industry, in this case Disney.
Disney should leave Marvel alone, just let them do what they’ve been doing and give Mickey Mouse a restraining order to stay away from the building. But over time… Marvel will blend in (read: be swallowed).
Now, Disney will definitely make bad movies with Marvel superheroes, but then again, Marvel would’ve done the same thing. They can’t be all good.
Like I said, my mind’s not made up yet.
PS. Don’t like the mash-ups.
Brilliant news – 30 odd years ago no-one outside Marvel fans knew much about the comics and the potential to out-hit Superman & Batman…now look…Marvel is huge..we’ve had some great movies to-date..but now..just think of the potential for fantastic special effects..quality…and hopefully bringing all the characters back under one roof so we can get Spider-Man showing up with Iron Man & The Hulk etc..just like the comics! All the cynics should chill-out and be glad Marvel looks safe for years to come! Nuff Said!
First order of business should be a Spider-man reboot, with a cool Peter Parker, an attractive Mary Jane, and an interesting, scary villain. And please make it dark.
Tobey Maguire showing up in an Iron Man or Hulk movie, I would leave the movie theatre immediately.
@ Rhaemye listen bud i totally agree with u,i love the dark aspect of some movies that are being merged with comic book heroes but something like spiderman isnt meant to be dark at all , i can see it working for some characters but not all. Not everything has to have a dark story line or setting to be good.
Thingerella was great. LMAO.
I’m just hoping that Disney leaves Marvel alone the way it pretty much has left Pixar alone. Just be the silent partner with the deep pockets and let the Marvel people do their thing. Maybe, just MAYBE, we can get a slew of great superhero movies this way.
Micky Mouse with the venom sybiote attached to it.
Who else is psyched for Marvel vs Disney? lol
I’d play Marvel vs. Disney.
Although now I’m slightly worried about our chances for a Marvel vs Capcom 3…
Micky Mouse with a symbiote………… hmmmmmmmm. It should be VenoMicky, or VenoMouse. Get it?lol.
@ Daniel F,
Marvel vs. Disney > Marvel vs. Capcom
I’d play that game
Well this could be interesting. Goofy and Deadpool. Just sayin everyone.. just sayin
We’re hoping this will open up new opportunities for collecible figurines from the artists who currently have licensing with Disney. We’d love to be able to offer all the great Marvel characters to our collectors.
I disagree with you Leggy, Spiderman CAN go dark, it depends on how mature the character is and if they don`t have a really goofy or complicated power and if they don`t try to use their power too much and be approved with themselves. Also if they`re not too “hot” or “goofy” looking if u know what i mean. Spiderman can go in the middle, or AS light as dark. But i don`t wanna insult disney, seriously, they just make films for family entertainment, and Marvel heroes and disney entertainment could both be considered for kids, but it`s just that the characters of Disney are much more complex than the characters of Marvel, you know. There`s no “magic” or “fairy tale” casted alongside with Marvel, and disney is usually a “magical” adventure story enhanced for everyone. Right now i believe Marvel is doing their own projects, after that i think Disney is allowed to “reboot” the franchises with a version of their own, right? I just like seing the scarier and intense side of most Marvel requirements.
I actually though M.O.D.U.C.K. was the best.
Idea: Kingdom Hearts Meets X-Men or Kingdom Hearts game w the Marvel Universe
Escape from Scarlet witch mountain !

i am ticked off about this i mean marvel had it all goin for them, and now, theyve lost probably half of their fan base.
I can’t believe that Disney made this deal with Marvel..Now have of Marvel Fans are going to walk out of the Theathers when they see the Disney Title theme instead of the Marvel Title theme in all the future Marvel Movies like Spiderman 4, The Avengers etc…I know both companies are great in all but please leave Mickey at Disneyland and leave Spiderman at Universal Studios..This just doesnt fit the picture guys.
They ruined The fact that the Punisher who is a killer and movies are Rated R people know have to be rated G they ruined that character and all other characters that Marvel Movies are Rated R..I am also ticked off at this.
NO NO NO! I don`t want them touching Spiderman, but i wouldn`t want him to be only hero owned by marvel so i want atleast Spiderman, Hulk, and X-Men to not be touched by Disney. I`m 10 years old but the only way for me to see a good Hulk, X-Men or Spiderman is if they`re all PG-13 and i have a feeling if it`s owned by disney they`re gonna tone it all down. Maybe Later i will except the convincement they`re trying to make but for now DISNEY PLEASE LAY YOUR HANDS OFF MY FAVORITE CHARACTERS, YOU HAVE GREAT MOVIE-MAKING MANAGEMENTS BUT I LIKE SEEING MY FAVORITE SUPERHEROES THE WAY I LIKE SO PLEASE KEEP YOU`RE HANDS OFF THE RIGHTS TO OWN THOSE 3 SUPERHEROES AND ESPECIALLY SPIDERMAN PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THE only hero i meant
@ Rogers
Well you seem a little tense. But I agree with you all the way. I an a big Spidey fan as well.
easy, guys, look at it this way.. disney bought marvel.. not jsut the rights to the characters or the names.. so they’re gonna have all of the staff at marvel. I don’t see a big change happening in the way of the characters, because marvel has been dong a better and better job of bringing money in (otherwise, Disney would not have wanted it). i’m 25 now, and have been collecting comics and watching the cartoons since i was six.. there’s no one else in the world, i’d rather see taking marvel into their own hands than disney… you stay away michael eisner. think of the buyout like this: you’re gonna get to ride the Avenger’s Coaster and the Silver Surfer’s Magical Surf Ride much sooner than marvel was ever going to give it to you (Disney has mucho mucho theme park money :O) )
Thanks, Toxin! i’m also 25 and pretty much in the same boat. But yeah, think about it this way…you’ve got The Avengers coming out, which could be 4 different movies into one. Starjammed(no pun intended), prolly 3 hours long(never been done by Marvel), and basically just a wallet killer. Marvel needs this. Disney doesn’t. Disney’s fine with their promise rings havin Jonas Bros. and other crap(Pirates OTC was not bad though), and Marvel just needed some money for these movies! It’s that simple! I mean Disney’s been involved with some adult themed material in the past so just let it happen. But…if I see a Marvel logo and then a Disney logo right beside each other at the start of a movie, I’ll be ticked.
I also look at this as a way for Marvel to fuel their current success with Disney capital. Let’s face it, Disney knows how to make money. I work with adults that have Hannah Montana Kleenex boxes at their desk. That is a marketing coup. Looking at Disney’s history, they have managed to avoid any serious missteps. I sincerely doubt they are going to alienate an entire demographic by touching Marvel. They are simply going to feed more capital into the Marvel creation engine and wait for the profit to flow in. They might step up merchandising, but then who wouldn’t want an Wolverine Kleenex box, right?
