Saw this movie a few days ago with my dad. I’m 18, and parts of it even creeped ME out. A little kid in the theater started crying at one point because it scared them. The animation is nice, the 3D is nice, the overall story is nice, but this movie is not one I would recommend you take your children too. Seems a bit too scary to be a Christmas movie made by Disney.

Hmmmm… Not really impressed. From the look of the trailers it looks like a lot of flying around and screaming. I’ll probably see it, but it won’t be very good. At all.

Well… The original Dickens story was more than intense and downright terrifying and freaky at times. Especially with Marley’s jaw coming off! (original story)

But I was expecting better animation..

That was pretty awful. I think Polar Express must have forever soured me on this kind of thing.

Marley’s Ghost looks like something from a Playstation cut scene (the original Playstation). In the clip where Scrooge plays a trick on Bob Cratchitt, Scrooge is supposed dramatically transition from being mean “Old Scrooge” to joyful, redeemed “New Scrooge” – instead the face just puts on a kind of grimacing “smile”. Nothing else lights up on his features.

I don’t know if Jim Carrey didn’t act it that way, or if something got lost in the translation, but color me unimpressed. Alastair Sim and the others who have portrayed this classic story over the years don’t have much to worry about, methinks.

Daah!!! The CG “performance capture” perfectly captures human motion and then, apparently, applies it to lifeless corpses on marionette strings! I’m hiding under my bed, typing this out by whacking my keyboard with a long stick. Just… just disturbing. I’ve looked into the slobbering maw of hell and seen Jim Carrey’s dessicated cadaver cavorting through a CG room, swung about by a drunk puppeteer. I must have gone pants-crapping insane to be assaulted by this nightmare fuel.

Either that or Robert Zemeckis has turned Scarecrow and released a fear toxin in my room when I wasn’t looking. Frisk him this instant and see if he’s carrying a burlap mask and a hay fork.
