Tom says:

Are you serious critics?
This movie had to have been one of the most astronomically colossal movies of the year!
I decide to go watch the movie this morning, watch the entire breathtaking 140 minutes of intensity and excitement, get home, and choose to see what the critics had to say. I am breath taken about every single one of there reviews, shocked, amazed.
Every single bald headed ass scratching review writer out there decided to take one of the best movies of 2009 and turn it into a wreck. Critics such as them love the attention, if one critic decides to write up a very unexpected astonishingly shocking review, every other idiotic reviewer is going to do the same thing.
My opinion, do NOT listen to those reviewers, if you liked the trailer or if you are drawn to special effects. GO.

ken x says:

Iron knight: yea, everyone applauded. I didnt, i never do, i see no point, who are you applauding to…the ushers? lol. Im gonna see it in IMAX as well.

Someone mentioned the shard thing for optimus, i wondered that myself from the second he got killed till the end. That was poor writing on their part, especially because they showed that shard bringing the entire kitchen to life. other than that, i was thoroughly pleased.

i dont know much about the transformers lore, so im wondering, was there some big event in the comics where jetfire gave his life and parts for optimus? everyone made a big deal out of that when it happened in the theater.

RAS says:

to what ken x said about jetfire giving his life for optimus: in the cartoon they would combine to become more powerful to defeat decepticons. that was just michael bay’s way of interpreting that.

ken x says:

ahhh ok RAS, thanks. I was actually thinking of gettin the cartoons.

JM says:

Applauding to a movie… and that’s not retarded. Was Megan Fox in the room? i dont think so.

justin says:

I am a die hard transformers fans and admit that I was very excited about this movie, however I will say that it was lacking in some aspects.
First let say what I liked,
Prime. More like the Prime I remember from the cartoons, willing to sacrifice himself for a human, and offering that silent strong leadership that endeared him to G1 fans.
The forest battle. Reminded me of the ‘86 movie battle between Prime and Megatron, just more adult with ferocity.
Prime’s death. Hard for me to decide which death was more moving, the ‘86 one or the ‘09 one. I knew it was going to happen, but was suprised by the audible gasp in the theatre I was in when it happened.
The NEST group. What a good way to explain how and why the Autobots were still on earth and what they were doing. I liked how they kind of hinted at it being like a Transformer/GIJoe crossover- with out saying so. I always wondered why the military did nothing about the Decepticons in the G1 continum.
Megatron and Starscream. Brought me back to saturday mornings watching G1 with my brothers. Loved how they interacted with each other, and how they stole away at the end.
Now for the bad,
Lots of plot holes, LOTS. I saw that somebody had already said it, but why did they have to find the matrix? They had Sam’s shard the whole time. I suppose it is possible that the shard was still attached to Jetfire, but something should have been done with it. How did Simmons get all of Sector 7’s files? Who was the helicopter that picked up the Saturn with the kids, Blackout? Didn’t he die in the 1st one? Where was Barricade? Did I see Bonecrusher in the battle at the end? Why wasn’t more done with the proto-forms? Where exactly did Megatron go when he “met” with hte Fallen? Sorry, like I said lots of plot holes.
The twins. WTF? Talk about racism at it’s worse. These characters should have been deleted from the movie and more screen time and development to Sideswipe, or Arcee, or even more with Ironhide or Ratchet. Don’t get me wrong, they had some funny one-liners, but over all a waste of time.
The Matrix and the primes. I am all for explaining some of the mythos of the transformers, but this part of the story was all wrong to me. I was against the idea of the all spark in the first one and remember thinking it should have been the matrix, but now that they brought it in, ugh. To me the matrix is what made someone a prime and it was something that was passed down to a worthy warrior who had proved his pureness and ability to be a leader, similar to what the ghost primes said to sam, but it doesn’t seem to fit in the bayverse. And why does the Matrix power the sun destorying device? Doesn’t seem to be a good thing to me, just saying.
Now overall I will admit that I was entertained and enjoyed the movie. I will not say it lived up to it’s hype, but it was fun. I was hoping for more and do feel a little let down by all of the plot holes, but what can you do? I do hope that this leads to a 3rd movie and that possibily some redemtion, but I guess we’ll see. I think it was this past week there was a report from M Bay saying he isn’t finished with transformers, but I hope that he passes the reigns to a different director so that we can see another take on this universe.

JM says:

Please, can somebody explain what are the Primes doing in Heaven?

LOL

Chris Marcojos says:

….yes there was a bit of tension for me, ive been a transformers fan all my life and there’s always this ache in me everytime i see optimus die. i always get a bit hurt seeing my childhood hero get killed in a movie

jon says:

RATING :( out of ten stars) ***************

RAS says:

the primes are just chillin in the sky. got nothin better to do. but personally i think sam should have used the matrix and brought them back to life along with optimus…

Copernicus says:

Note: I’ve only read a few of the above posts, so if I step on things already said, I apologize.

I enjoyed the movie. A lot. But, you have to recognize, it was not a very movie. In terms of this genre, it’s no Dark Knight, nor nearly as good as Iron Man. Those two films mixed action and plot seamlessly so it was just as much about character growth, plot, and a central message as it was about action.

Transformers 2 only hits the action. Yes, it hits it gloriously in my opinion. It’s hard to keep track of everything happening in the scenes, so perhaps they did it even too well, but I like to think that their attention to detail was splendid.

Now, when I say the movie is action, don’t get me wrong. Things happen during the action scenes. Optimus Prime dying had me gripped in my seat (death of an icon, I’m sure you understand). Things happened, but just not enough.

It seemed that every time some plot development occurred, like meeting a new character or a character “growth” (I’ll get to this all-to predictable growth in a moment), the film immediately cut to action. I agree, that’s kind of the point, but it can’t happen EVERY TIME. There has to be space for dialogue and maybe a little quiet to allow the audience to appreciate what’s happening. What ever happened to pacing in the editing? The first movie, in my opinion, new how to take its time. Remember the scene where Bumblebee drives away and Sam gets chased by the cop, immediately followed by the autobots falling from the heavens? That was excellent. Such a dramatic build up was not found in this movie, the action simply smothered it.

The same can be said of the character and plot development. It’s very popular in the “hero’s quest” archetype for the protagonist to have to overcome some flaw, climb some personal mountain and defeat his demons etc. “You never say you love me.” You could guess that that’d come back at the end. What about the question with Optimus possibly feeling guilty for making Earth a battlefield, or the military wanting robot tech? The characters were either static or their growth was predictable and banal. Think about the plot too! Was a single thing from the first half of the movie important in the second half? That random girl who hits on Sam just dies, the little RC bugger runs out of his usefulness as soon as he introduces us to Jetstream, etc. One thing I don’t mind is the fact that robots were introduced willy nilly, coming and going sometimes without more than 5 words said, but it serves to present the action as grandiose and thus doesn’t hurt the plot in my opinion.

I have no opinion on the random dumb humor. It was funny maybe once or twice, and the rest of the time it was just a pointless waste of dialogue. But hey, it’s a movie about transforming robots that fight, I can accept some random humor.

In summary: While Transformers 2 is definitely a fun movie that brings back all the nostalgia of fighting robots, the action, however beautifully done, chokes the rest of the movie, preventing any character or plot development and ultimately stumping the movie’s potential for anything but a summer “action movie flick.”

@Copernicus

Very well said, bud. Thanks for chiming in.

ronin says:

Saw it the other day and it was fairly enjoyable. I really liked it’s being more action packed. The fight scenes weren’t shot too close unlike before so it wasn’t as dizzying as the first movie. Also, the story went along the lines of the original cartoon movie (eg. Optimus dying, the Matrix of leadership) so in some ways, it was like a trip to memory lane for me. And not to forget Megan Fox!!!! (do I need to elaborate why?)

And perhaps the best part here is the forest fight scene between a lone Optimus versus Megatron and company. Yeah, Optimus was “killed” here, but in this scene we can see just how good Optimus is in kicking “metallic ass.” I remember seeing some people rant about Optimus being a “pussy” in the first movie because Megatron roughed him up easily. However, I think Optimus was merely holding back because he was fighting Megatron in a highly populated area. They’re in the middle of a city for Pete’s sake! Here in Terminator 2, they’re in the woods (eg, no innocent bystanders that will get hurt) and Optimus was protecting Sam hence, more motivation to really dish it out against the baddies.

The things that didn’t sit quite well for me were the robots where so detailed that during the fight scenes, I could hardly make out what the heck was going on (like, was that a punch or a kick?) and it was quite difficult to see who was dishing out the punches and who was at the receiving end. They (Autobots and Decepticons) look so much alike!

Another point is, I was kinda’ expecting to see more flying Decepticons here. I mean, knowing that this is supposed to focus on the planned vengeance of the Decepticons, I was thinking that they’ll come in “full force” so it will feature more “flyers” like Thundercracker, Skywarp,Cyclonus, etc. Remember in the cartoons, the Decepticon’s main characteristic is that they can fly. It would have been a treat to see them engage the Air Force in a dog-fight.

And that climactic battle scene in the desert. Wasn’t that the same “ruins set” used in the first movie? I mean, that part where the surviving soldiers (from the “Blackout attack”) made their stand against Scorponot? What’s the deal here?

And lastly, that female Decepticon. Looks too “Terminator 3″ for me.

Anyway, despite of the flaws (or failed expectations), I still enjoyed it overall. It would be interesting to see what plot points will be used in the third installment.

coltsxxwin says:

i disagree with all the critics and that tat movie was a VERY good movie. I saw it this morning and went home and was stilll like wow what a grweat movie. the plot was there the entire time- the autobots stopping the dicepticons and forming an alliance with the humans. the movie was THE BEST 2009 MOVIE!!!

JM says:

@coltsxxin

“the autobots stopping the dicepticons and forming an alliance with the humans”. <– That’s a plot??? LOL

Damn it, the plot for the next batman movie will be “batman fighting crime”.. awesome!!! (sarcasm)

GUNSMITH says:

ITS A GOOD SUMMER MOVIE BUT-I WOULDA LIKED TO SEE THE AUTOBOTS IN THE SHIP IN THE MOUNTAIN,YOU KNOW, TELETRAN ONE AND ALL…WHY WOULD THE AUTOBOTS JUST HANG IN A HANGER,ME I DONT GO TO WORK THEN STICK AROUND..ID WANNA GO HOME, WATCH CABLE OR HAVE A BEER..WHAT DO AUTOBOTS DO ON THEIR DOWNTIME?

GUNSMITH says:

VERY NICE COPERNICUS, SEE NOW THAT WAS PRETTY DANG HONEST.

Iron Patriot says:

Looking back, the Decepticon’s shard was the same one retrieved from Megatron’s burnt out chest cavity in the first film. That tells me that the shards alone lack the power to repair damage, which is confirmed by the Decepticons scrapping one of their own before reviving Megatron. If the shards can’t even repair damage, how could they possibly revive a dead Transformer? The only answer I can think of is this:

Megatron’s dead body was still infused with power from the All Spark, which allowed the Decepticons to revive him with their stolen shard. Because Optimus Prime was killed the old fashioned way, Sam’s shard could not be used in the same manner because there was no All Spark power in his body. Does that make sense?

Martin Dooyes says:

Well I had the supreme pelasure of watching this film on premiere night, the first show of the day. So basicly everyone in the room was either a 25 year old + male, a girlfriend or wife that was dragged along by her hair, or a mother who cannot be dragged away from her son and his childhood with a pointy stick.

Yes, I took my mother along, too…

Anyway, about the film. I was leaning on “totally flabbergasted”, but with an undercurrent of “unfulfilled”.

There were things about this film (spoilers ahead) that kept me on the edge of my seat. However, looking back, there were things that made my spine shiver in disgust.

What I would like to know is… Other than the fact that they’re just the good guys who ALWAYS win, HOW the heck did the Autobots and humans (or… NEST, as they call it) ever manage to win? The D’s had complete superiority in numbers, amount of bad ass and planning.
They had a spectacular CGI monstrosity running around that seemed to do little more than eating sand and try to climb a pyramid “ED-209″ style…. Why is it that it only fought 2 lame hicks of autobots, only to be one shotted by humans? In his BALLS with a railgun? I expected more of that fight. This is only an example…
About the twins; give them beer, chips a tv that’s playing Nascar and watch them yell excitedly “They’re making a left turn!” Who, in their right mind, would make a transformer with malformed dentals and a lazy eye… twice?
Megatron also gave me no good reason to be afraid of him. Since when is he afraid of anyone? The Fallen is his master? so… the biggest baddest bad guy ever (voted one of the most diabolical and awesome bad guys ever) turns out to be nothing more than a crony who gets his butt whipped by humans?
If Bay gave me his script to proofread it, I would shove it down his throat and tell him to start over. Not from scratch, but some parts needed redecorating.

I wish Bay would stop adding useless new characters. Leo actually contributed nothing to the story, only gave room for Simmons (another character I was having diffculty with from the first film) to be a loony glorious something of a hero. Noted, there are not as many characters as the first film, allowing more time for the hardcore action fights between alien robots with lazers and shiny armor.

But, I dont want to say it was all bad. It really wasn’t. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and I was really enjoying myself throughout the whole thing.

Optimus Prime still does it. He still feels like the Red and blue semi I remember from sitting in front of the tv as a kid. He still is the most heroic person who kicks ass. And it still made my throat achy when he was plotfortunately killed in battle. Good job. Thank GOD for Peter Cullen voicing him. If not for him, the whole film would instantly become a mediocre piece of franchising.

I’d love to write more, but I’m out of time at the moment. In short, it was good, but during script writing and production there was defitniely room for improvement. It dealt with some extremes in good and bad. I guess my final verdict is “biased, but good for entertaining nonetheless”… and oh yeah, too much sexual jokes.

Artlair out.

just seen this with my daughter – wow is the word and this was the same for 100 or so other veiwers in our session – the laughs were together, even a full applause at the end – this was a movie experience that we will not forget – our first words walking out of the theatre were “how many more times will we see this” –

i had read that critics were into bagging this film – this was made to be a popcorn movie so just bloody enjoy it – leave your mind at the door and relax – it is there to entertain you – and to prove this transformers 2 revenge of the fallen has already made 55 million dollars so your nasty reviews mean nothing to the people who just love a good film.

jon says:

I think the reason they didn’t bring optimus back with Sam’s cube shard is because a prime can only be brought back to life with the matrix

jon says:

oh!! and by the way the twins weren’t racist for saying they can’t read. the twins were pretty funny!!!

PLEASE COMMENT!!!!!

@MBL Entertainment
So let me get this straight; if a person doesn’t like a movie that you love, they must be porn-mongers and geeks that live with their parents? So what would you call yourself for hating a movie that Vic loves? “Remove the plank out of your eye before trying to remove the splint from someone elses eye”.

rich says:

na man im a defender of this movie to the core, i liked it and saw it for what it was,

but the twins were pretty freaking racist lol, why does the autobot have a gold tooth. but i also agree, they were the funniest part of the movie…

ahh but did anyone else almost cry with laughter when sam started screaming after being frenched by whore bot. ahaha priceless

rich says:

oh and one last thing, the votes are in people and the majority LIKE THIS MOVIE,

lot of haters like to write about their hating i guess lol

John "Kahless" Taylor says:

@Copernicus
I vote to give you the cookie for today! That was a very well written and thoughtful post. Bravo!

I love your screen name, BTW. Is it from the scientist or Doc Brown’s pet? :-)

jon says:

THIS MOVIE WAS COMPLETLY AWSOME

but I do have 2 minor problems
#1 starscream and megatron didn’t fight
#2 this isn’t really a complaint but bumblebee and sideswype should have gotten a bit more screen time
but overall just a outstandingly awsome movie

JD5DAD says:
