Disconnect takes on the theme of social media and modern technology's inability to truly connect members of society on a human level. As the trailer above showcases, the film tackles its layered-subject with numerous interweaving storylines, with each one seemingly demonstrating a separate pitfall of our social media generation and (over)reliance on technology.

The film is brought to us by Oscar nominee Henry Alex Rubin (Murderball), who is making his fiction feature debut. It features a diverse but very talented ensemble cast, including Jason Bateman (Arrested Development), Hope Davis (American Splendor), Frank Grillo (The Grey), Paula Patton (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol), Alexander Skarsgård (True Blood), Max Thieriot (House at the End of the Street), Andrea Riseborough (Oblivion) and Colin Ford (We Bought a Zoo).

The issues related to social media and technology presented in the trailer include cyber-bullying, identify theft, fraud and dysfunctional, non-communicative families. However, what the trailer doesn't show - but certainly implies with its tone and score - is that something even darker is going on.

The types of problems and concerns that stem from our modern world will likely be very relatable for many viewers, but it will be even more interesting to see how the filmmakers make sense of it all and (ironically enough) connect these intertwining stories. So far, consider us intrigued, to say the least.

With talent on board and some dramatic and intense scenarios that may not be far off from what is playing out in some of our lives, the trailer has certainly done its job of piquing our interest, while keeping the real story a mystery.

Disconnect opens in theaters on April 12th, 2013.
