Another week, another Die Hard rumor. Despite the fact that Live Free and Die Hard disappointed some by dropping the franchise’s traditional R-rating, it made bank beyond expectations and earned very positive acclaim from critics and fans alike. Thus, it was inevitable that Die Hard 5 would eventually make its way to theaters, as well.
We’ve known for a while that Bruce Willis and company are keen on bringing John McClane back to the big screen, but all the Die Hard 5 news in the world has yet to yield any concrete plot information. The last big (and now defunct) rumor was that Die Hard and the TV show 24 would join universes as Die Hard 24/7. And now, the newest rumor is that a “Gruber” will be the villain.
Fans of Die Hard are no doubt aware that Hans Gruber, played by the awesome Alan Rickman (Harry Potter), was the original film’s main villain. Though Die Hard 2: Die Harder and Live Free and Die Hard had nothing whatsoever to do with the Gruber clan, Die Hard: With a Vengeance sported Simon Gruber (Jeremy Irons), Hans’ older brother, as its big bad out for a little brotherly revenge.

What’s Playing says the new rumor doesn’t specify whether or not the Gruber family member is another brother, a sister, a mother, a father, a daughter, a son, a cousin, an uncle, or an aunt, et cetera, just that he or she is related to the Gruber brothers. Keep in mind, at this point this is just a rumor and an unlikely one at that. It’s easy enough to make up a story like this, especially when it’s already been a major plot point in one of the previous films.
Still, I suppose I wouldn’t mind if another Gruber came after McClane, if the idea were done properly. For example, what if the entire Gruber family went after the McClane family? Like Family Feud meets Die Hard? After all, McClane is responsible for having killed two Grubers already, so it’s only plausible that all remaining family members would want a crack at him.
Imagine a team of Grubers, including the lead Gruber (the mother, played by Angela Lansbury), the demolitions Gruber (the uncle, played by Bill Nighy), the sniper Gruber (the sister, played by Emma Thompson), the martial arts Gruber (the cousin, played by Liam Neeson), the sexy Gruber (the adopted younger sister, played by Kate Beckinsale), and the serial killer Gruber (the littlest brother and the baby of the family, played by Tom Hardy) – all affecting German accents.
Honestly, I was just joking when I started writing that, but now I actually want to see this movie.

Gruber return for Die Hard 5 as the villain would be good Irons in Die Hard 3 was great. A Gruber could come in many ways weather it be via a group or just one i feel the best way is to bring on a triple threat or two. Grubers are famous for the classic “bank job” they could try and steal a small amount of money to get John to bite at the bait and then I a game of cat and mouse with a twist of a big city threats and have more people of the city involed to help him meet a dead line or just to win in the end.
I would LOVE to see Angela Lansbury in a kick-a$$ role

Terrorists would be a new thread for McClane. There never were terrorists in the Die Hard series. 1 and 3 were robberies disguised as terrorism. 2 was mercenaries after drug lord money. 4 was a digital heist.
Can’t wait for this movie, I want this next installment to me R- rated though.
Woah. Nothing could be more awesome than the whole Gruber clan coming after McClane’s. I second the need for the return to an R-rated Die Hard as it is just nothing without the badassness that Bruce Willis can show in an R-rated flick.
Alan Rickman is like one of the best actors of all time and I don’t know who could possible top the characters played by him and Jeremy Irons as well. Christian Bale as the baby brother anyone?!
Could McClane just go to family reunion and wipe them all out.
They already did this plot with Die Hard 3, doing another gruber story is a total waste of time.
An original, and final story please. Kill Mclane off. Do something new. Die Hard 4 was a step in the right direction.
And by the way, that Die Hard 24/7 idea, would have been the best action film of all time, the 24 movie isnt being made at the moment, so get it made. Damn it!

What back on television??? Interesting, there was talk of that when season 8 was still in production, but no networks can afford the massive budget of 24.
I would like to see a movie version though, Sutherland seems keen on the idea, and I can picture a grouchy, growling Jack Bauer going international, the plots could be endless.
yeah that was a couple of weeks ago that I read the article, there where other networks intrested in the show, I liked the idea of the Die Hard 24/7, but i’d rather they stuck to the TV show for 24. Without the Shield or 24 on tv there just isnt enough good violence on. lol
Well they introduced his daughter into the mix, have her go into the police force and get involved with an under cover plot that has to bring her old man in to get her out, whether they want him there or not. Make the prtagonist an actual terrorist, Muslim, and use McClain to shut them down after they break into a government conference or something like that.
what if they had his daughter bring home “Hans gruber jr” or something like that in the vain of the original lethal weapon
I wouldn’t mind if McClane had to up against more than one Gruber for revenge etc. But i think it would require one heck of a script & cast and if Fox could be more wiser, make this installment R-rated. Alan Rickman & Jeremy Irons were both great as villains. You co cou couldn’t catch me if i stole your cha cha chair with you in it,lol. McClane, Have you been drinking? My Die Hard 5 Idea…
I think bringing back the Gruber family is fine with me. However I all ready thought of an idea for the next one of the series… My idea for the fifth one is that it takes place in a mall. 30-50+ terriorists hold the biggest mall in ransom at Christmas time. While in the mall McClane is looking for the best perfect Christmas gift. And of course it’s up too him to save the day…

My Die Hard 6 Idea…
His daughter Lucy, is getting married to Matt Farrell in Vegas. While watching the entire movies you’ll see a lot of cameos. Holly (Bonnie Bedelia), Lucy (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Matt (Justin Long), Sgt. Al Powell (Reginald VelJohnson), Richard “Dick” Thornburg (William Atherton). I was thinking get the girls are doing there own thing, while the guys are doing there thing too. Of course there is a lot of tension there. Then of all sudden over 50+ terriorists hold the casinos. And I was thinking it was up too John, his son John JR (which they called him Jack in Die Hard 4), and Matt to save the day to girls they love… We’ve never seen a Vegas situation before, and truly feel it would work. The main villian would be Liam Neilson in this one…
I would call this last installment… All Bets Are To Die Hard…

I am definetly up for another Gruber as badguy…but…the have to get the casting spot on. Both Alan Rickman and Jeremy Irons did great for as far as I’m concerned, especially Irons (I think I saw that movie a little to much in a certain fase of my life, so it made a disproportionate impression

McClane has killed so many people, there are so many ways you could formulate this plot. I think another Gruber would be great. They should bring it full circle – Hans Gruber’s son should be the one to finally kill McClane and end the franchise.

that is such a fanboy conclusion- it could be rated PG if there was a good story and script- the fact of the matter is that DH4′s script was bad-
Bruce Willis comes in as a producer when he had no business being the producer and things he knows the world of Die Hard and ends up making a mediocre film- the same thing happened with Schwarzenegger on Terminator 3-
just because a star is associated with a franchise doesn’t meat they should become it’s showrunner after several films- he didn’t write the original films or produce them and it showed in the fourth film- The film just lacked everything that make a Die Hard film- the story, script, and score all suffered by not having joel silver and John McTiernan involved-
