Just recently, some new photos from the seventh season of Dexter gave us our first look at Yvonne Strahovski, Ray Stevenson and Jason Gedrick in the serial killer drama, but they weren’t all that revelatory. Now, a new trailer for the penultimate season of the Showtime series has arrived and we finally get some hints at all the chaos, danger and intrigue that’s coming Dexter’s way.

(Of course, if you want to know what’s going to happen, you could just check out our Dexter season 7 Details post.)

Funnily enough, there’s actually not much to be seen of the aforementioned new cast members in this trailer. It actually pays much closer attention to the dynamic between Dexter (Michael C. Hall) and Deb (Jennifer Carpenter), as the latter comes to terms with the dark impulses of the former. But there’s also plenty of other goodies in this new video.

DEXTER SEASON 7 SPOILERS FOLLOW!!!

First of all, the obvious question is how will Deb deal with the discovery made in the season 6 finale when she discovered Dexter thrusting a knife into the chest of the Doomsday Killer. Much of the mystery behind that drives this trailer, as we see snaps of the aftermath, including some dramatic arguments, crying, and even a punch to Dexter’s face by Deb. Even more interesting is how much more Deb looks to learn this season, especially if she’s looking back into the files of the Ice Truck Killer.

Meanwhile, La Guerta (Lauren Vélez) has an interesting storyline as she discovers a blood slide Dexter has seemingly misplaced at a crime scene. That’s likely to be a big deal for her, since the killings of the Bay Harbor Butcher fell onto the deceased shoulders of Sgt. James Doakes. Further complications arise for Dexter at Miami Metro, as nerdy intern Louis has taken the criticism of his serial killer video game to heart and has some sort of angry vendetta against Dexter (though it doesn’t look like that will last very long).

Louis the Intern is not on Dexter’s good side this season

And then there’s the wild card elements, like that bulky dude wearing that Viking-esque helmet, that quick shot of what looks like Dexter stabbing Masuka (C.S. Lee) in the throat, a tease of Dexter drugging Deb, and plenty of deaths, including someone important enough to be wrapped in an American flag.

Fans who were disappointed in last season just might change their tune when the seventh season premieres this September. It looks like the entire legacy of Dexter is going to come into play with these final two seasons, and I can’t wait to see how it’s all going to end.

Dexter season 7 premieres September 30th at 9/8c on Showtime.
