For the past six years, Dexter fans have been waiting with anticipation for the moment when Dexter’s foul-mouthed sister, Deb, would finally bear witness to his Dark Passenger. Thanks to the Dexter season 6 finale, that moment has arrived.

But what happens next in Dexter season 7? How will the series continue with Deb knowing Dexter’s secret?

As we’ve previously reported, Dexter has been renewed for seasons 7 and 8 already, with the latter serving as the series’ finale season. Accompanying the renewal announcement, series producers revealed that they would be initiating a story-arc in season 6 that would last until the end of the series.

Now that we know what that story-arc is, let’s find out what they plan on doing with it.

Speaking with TV Guide, Dexter executive producer Scott Buck reveals what’s going to happen with Deb’s newfound knowledge; how Deb and Dexter’s relationship (not the creepy sex part) will be impacted; what Dexter is going to do now that his secret is out; what’s going on with weirdo Louis; and whether or not Dexter needs to die at the end of the series.

On Deb finding out Dexter’s secret:

We always imagined that Deb finding out would be part of the end game, so we always sort of delayed it. When we came in this year, David Nevins [said], ‘Let’s shake things up. We don’t have to play it safe. We can think a little bit differently this year.’ We decided it was finally time to deal with this head-on. There’s still plenty of drama to come after this, but we know we have two seasons left to do and there’s more than enough for us to deal with in the next two years just dealing with this one particular issue.

Dexter Season 6 Premiere - Big Bad

On what will happen in Dexter season 7:

One of Dexter’s hallmarks is that no one really knows who he is, and now Deb at least has a little peek behind the curtain. How much she actually knows and figures out will all be part of the drama of next season, but it’s certainly going to affect our story in a very big way.

I don’t think we’ll toy with the audience. She sees what she sees and we all know exactly what she’s seeing, but how much does that really say about Dexter and what does Deb already know about him? This is her brother, who she’s known her whole life. To walk into a situation like this, you’re not going to immediately think, ‘Oh, my brother is a serial killer.’ You’re going to think, ‘Oh, my brother is killing DDK. This is crazy and insane.’ She’s taken the first peek behind the curtain, but it’s not necessarily daylight just yet.

On whether or not serial killer fanatic Louis will be the villain next season:

Louis is something we don’t quite know what to make of because he’s something that has not appeared on Dexter before. It’s a different kind of character and it will be fun to explore exactly who he is and what he’s doing. I certainly like Louis, but he’s obviously got some issues to deal with. He seems to be a troubled individual, and how that will work out in terms of Dexter will be part of the fun of next season, but he will not be our big bad.

  1. I THINK THAT HARRISON NEED TO KILL DEXTER. MAYBE SOME YEARS LATER , OR MAYBE HE WILL SEE HIS FATHER IN ACTION AND HE THINKS IT’S A GOOD THING OR A GAME , AND HE WILL KILL HIM WITH FATHER’S KNIFE . AND DEBRA WILL FIND HARRISON SURROUNDED BY DEXTER’S BLOOD AND CRYING.

    SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH

    • I Tank Deb is gonna s all over dex’s d ya heard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. I think Deb is going to find out and want to protect dexter in the this season so than maybe in the next season she will be able to help dexter find new victims from unsolved cases since she is the lieutenant she’ll be able to get files easy.

And than with louis he will probably be a problem in this season. So Deb will be a distraction to Dexter and that will give the producers some time with the killing. And also since louis is very smart with computers that might give him a advantage to find out more about Dexter. So that might get this season going.

And probably by the end of season 8 they might have dexter change and have him actually get rid of his dark passenger for good. And be able to live a normal life. And maybe him and Deb can be together and be Harrison family. And make sure he doesn’t end up like Dexter.

    • cynthia I totally agree with you!

      • Idk y but that seems pretty accurate to me but Louis has already invited dexter to play with by delivering the box and painted hand so maybe he already knows something n why that particular hand finger nails painted, jus like his brother did..

  3. i’ve been in love with Dexter since the start, in fact my dog is named after him because me and dad watch Dexter religiously. i don’t think Dexter should die in the end… that would ruin everything, i reckon it should end with maybe something to do with Harrison. perhaps Dexter loses his dark passenger but Harrison starts showing signs of evil… this way Dexter’s story is over but that doesn’t mean Harrison’s should be.

  4. Am I the only one who felt like the deb in love with dexter thing seemed completely random and ridiculously creepy. Not because they are bro/sis (not biologically), but because for 5 entire seasons they’ve managed to have one of the most honest tv relationships I’ve ever seen. During the development of their relationship I dont recall any hint or signs of any sexual tension. Now, deb out of the blue just decides she’s in love with him? The whole thing seems out of place and done for the sake of the shock effect. It makes me feel sick. This is coming from a guy who loved nip tuck too!

    • again i dont thinks she’s IN LOVE with him. the therapist is a horrible therapist for phrasing it that way. but think of it as deb wanting a man LIKE dexter. think about all the men she dates, who does she talk about them with… dexter. also debra has daddy issues and she resents her dad for cheating on his mom which she found out in season 4 (i think or was it season 5?). so she goes to the next best thing and that’s dexter. i think she just wants a man she can trust like she trusts dexter. that’s why she thinks she’s in love with him. i do agree their realtionship was really organic and cute in a brother/ sister kinda way but since the therapist pointed it out to her she’s feeling differently. i dont think she would have every thought that had her doctor not mentioned it. and notice how everytime she goes to the therapist she talks about how great dexter is and how she feels safe around him (she said she used to sneak into his room to sleep because she was afraid of the dark or whatever) that sounds like the kind of thing you look for in a husband. someone to keep you safe(dexter), who you can talk to about anything(dexter) and you can trust to keep your secrets (dexter). i hate that therapist for screwing with her head though.

nip tuck was a really creepy show in an incesty kinda way. kimber, christian and matt love triagle. ew…they had baby together!

      • Yea that makes more sense if you put it that way. And yes, I always thought the therapist was messing with her mind. Actually, I thought the therapist was going to try to get with Deb! She sent off some obviously strange undertones in every scene she was in.

        • lol!! ME TOO!! She was totally giving off a lesbian vibe which is why i was shocked when the love issue was with dexter and not the therapist. i thought the therapist was gonna be like “maybe you’re just a lesbian” when she was talking about how s***ty all the men in her life are. i could swear she came on to her a couple of times. i knew i wasnt just seeing things.

      • @ana:
You state that you don’t think that Deb is in love with Dex, but then you go ahead and prove just the opposite by pointing out all the reasons that prove she is. Deb does talk to Dex about all her relationships, and he is exactly the kind of man (excluding Quin of course…wonder why she turned down his proposal…) she seems to end up with.

As for what you said here, and I quote “Debra has daddy issues and she resents her dad for cheating on his mom” even after Deb knows about the affair she still want’s to prove herself to her dead father. However, then she realizes that she doesn’t need to prove anything to Harry, she wants approval from Dexter.

The only reason the brother/sister thing worked was because Michael and Jennifer were a real couple, with great chemistry. So It’s only a natural progression to have that chemistry manifest itself within the storyline.

The therapist was simply pointing out how much Deb cares, and talks about her “beloved brother” how it was all in her head to begin with, and how Deb couldn’t see that because she was “to close to her own situation to take an objective opinion on it.”
People do this all the time in real life, they have this “best friend” (which is what Dex is to Deb a best friend, not a brother, because if you know anything about their relationship, they’ve never had a real sibling dynamic) who is the greatest, and they talk about them all the time, never realizing that they are totally infatuated with them…until someone who’s outside the situation points it out to them of course.

Besides, if it wasn’t for the new dynamic between Deb and Dex, then Deb would be turning in Dex at the beginning of Season 7 and it would be all over right then and there. Cause we all know that Dex couldn’t kill Deb, and I quote “If I could have feelings at all, I’d have them for Deb…” -Dexter-

        • yeah but theres nothing wrong with thinking your brother is a good person. it’s definitely a blurry line between weird love with debra and dexter because of the nature of their relationhship being that he’s adopted. but i don’t think she falls on the gross side of the spectrum is all im saying. she never had any weird sex dreams until her therapist told her she was in love with him.

even if debra wasnt “in love” with dex i dont think she would turn him in. he is her brother after all and she admitted that in some cases it would be just swell to kill. see conversation about the vigilante and the rape victim in season 5. she basically said under the circumstances the victim of the rapes was under she would have killed them too.

    • @Conner:
The reason you saw no hint of sexual tension was because there was none, Deb was simply projecting her feelings onto men exactly like her brother, and sequentially making Dexter substitutions for herself.
In the end, it comes down to how she got the courage to look in herself to find what she was hiding so well that she herself couldn’t even see it…Being in love with someone doesn’t necessarily mean you want to have sex with them, of course you will want to have sex at some point (human nature). Real love is the companionship one person gets from another, the feeling of belonging and being a complete person with another as your other half, of being on a level of compatibility which is unrivaled by any other relationship. In a true love, sex and passion comes after the realization that this, the person you can not be without, is the love of your life.
I know it sounds corny, but that’s what real love is…

    • Their relasionship is anything but honest-Dexter is a serial killer…

      • i honestly cant imagine him having a happy ending. it has to at least be bittersweet. even michael c hall said he cant imagine a happy ending for him. if not a totally shakespearean tragic ending where miami metro explodes or something then some one beloved has to die to make it worth the watch and not like the ending of every other season finale. you want it to end like season 4 not season 3 or even season 5 (both ended in a somewhat anticlimactic way, granted the skinner wasnt really a scary guy and chase was creepy but not out of dexter’s control). there has to be some sort of sacrifice. it has to go off with a bang not a whimper. notice that the best scenes are the ones where dexter loses control of his life. rita’s death, rita’s funeral (after killing some random hillbilly, killing his brother, finding out he killed an innocent man(jonathan sparrow or whatever his name was), and debra seeing him kill travis. dexter’s used to being in control so i love when he loses it. those are the gems of Michael c halls acting.

@ sookie i think it was meant by that they have a geniune brother/sister bond or chemistry not that she knows everything about him.

    • I completely agree with you, Connor. The whole Deb-is-in-love-with-Dexter thing seemed like cheap theatrics to up the ante in some way that I don’t get. Really makes me wonder why writers/producers/directors feel the need to destroy what they have built when a series is coming to a close. Deb’s promotion seemed off to me, too, given that she is a junior detective and Batista would be the next logical choice regardless of his relationship with LaGuerta. LaGuerta’s role was awkward this year, too. They randomly marry her to Angel in Season 4, then destroy their relationship and have them divorced by season 6? One of the best series endings of all time (IMHO) and also a Michael C. Hall vehicle (David Fisher) was Six Feet Under. Some major characters died of along the way, but the ending made sense and rewarded loyal viewers for their time investment. When a show does these crazy things like conjure up nonsensical story lines and then end the show badly for whatever reason, it is a huge betrayal to the fan base.

  5. I really enjoyed season 1 -4 of Dexter but than season 5 came along and Dexter turned into a crazy psycopath, having full on covnersations with his father and brother, killing random people, never being home, screwing up at work…I liked the Dexter that was a little disturbed and simply..killed killers…now your gonna throw in a sexual relationship with his sister…way too off the mark for my liking..I miss the old Dexter, the whole thing is going to far in my book

  6. omg…only 2 more seasons?? that’s bs.

  7. I think that the next season will involve Deb contemplating whether or not she should arrest Dexter then she will connect the dots on how Dexter got so much more attention from Harry. Deb is very observant, she is too good of a Detective but it’s her brother who she is creepily in love with and maybe blacked out the clues of Dexter’s disorder. Louis will close in and find out Deb knows who he is, and maybe pull another Rudy trick on her, and I think Rudy might be Dexter’s other brother or Rudy’s son (kush out on that though). Meanwhile dirt on Doakes and the Bay Harbor Butcher come to light that implement Dexter in the butcher case which compromises Deb as Lieutenant. I think it would be awesome if they become a brother and sister murder team, kinda like Bonnie and Clyde or Mickey and Mallory Knox, except, without, ya know… the sex. Dexter and Boardwalk Empire had incest plots these last seasons, creeping me out. Maybe this season will end with Louis killing Deb and then Louis is the big bad for the last season and then Dexter finally gets arrested after killing him in public rage in the police station because even Harry can’t find any other solution to tell Dexter because he is just as furious and Dexter is sick of hiding his true self. Him just continuing his life would leave no closure. And as bummer as it sounds, how else could this saga end without him dying or ending up prison? Dexter is not a happy ending love story, it’s good, makes you feel insane watching it, entertainment that gives you an unnerving cringe that no other show can give you. I was so high writing this haha

  8. Dexter must die at the end of the series. That is the only fitting end and it will be Deb that does it. Deb will find a way to excuse the kill she witnesses. But as time goes on, like one poster stated she’s a good detective, she will come to the realization of what he is.

Serial Killers can’t stop being Serial Killers. Do you really think Bundy could have just stopped? I truly believe the Zodiac was killed either by a potential victim, natural causes or accident. That is why he or she just stopped. They are broken beyond repair. Natural Born Killers. Just because he kills his own doesn’t make him any different from his prey.

As for the love Deb feels for Dexter. She is at a very confusing time in her life. This will fade. I bet her and Louis hook up. Louis will be the one to reveal Dexter’s true nature to Deb. Dexter will come for Louis and Deb will be forced to kill Dexter.

But the last scene you will see that Deb sees Dexter’s nature in Dexter’s son who she will end up raising after his death.

Hate to see the show end but all good things must come to an end. I love the anti-hero premise. Never thought I would root for a serial killer. I am always saying where is Dexter when you need him when I read the news about sickos that deserve that fate.

Thanks to everyone envolved with this series. It is true viewing pleasure.

Michael C Hall, I loved loved loved you in Six Feet Under but Dexter is your masterpiece thus far. I look forward to your next masterpiece.

Jennifer Carpenter, you blew me away in The Exorcism of Emily Rose. I heard they didn’t need to use that many special effects because you are that good. ROCK ON SISTA!!!

    • Dexter and Ted Bundy or the Zodiac killer are not in the same league. Dexter only kills slimeballs that the system failed to convict on technicalities. If he were not redeemable, likeable, if there was not hope for him, we would not have watched a simple serial killer, killing people for the past 6 years. We watch because we see the human side of Dexter, no matter how much he protests that he is a monster and not a human being. A true sociopath doesn’t think that way. They have no conscience while Dexter clearly has one otherwise, he would not have tortured and blamed himself for Rita’s death. Lumen’s character jumped right into murder quite easily based on what was done to her, and once she felt vindicated and safe again, she no longer needed to kill, but she, too, is a serial killer by definition. Based on the perspective that Dexter must go to prison or die, would not the same thing be true for her? And yet, who doesn’t think her murderous abusers got exactly what was coming to them? The show does not have to end with Dexter’s death or with Harrison turning into a serial killer. This is not a genetic issue. Dexter was not “born” a serial killer, he (and his brother)was traumatized as a 3(ish) year old, left sitting for two days in several inches of his mother’s (and others) blood surrounded by the her severed body parts that he saw hacked off with a chain saw. Imagine the smell, the lack of food or water for two days, the possibility that–overcome with thirst, he may have ingested the blood surrounding him. He would have slept in that pool of blood as well. The fact that he only kills bad people makes sense. His psyche wants to avenge her death, to do what he couldn’t because he was a small boy. His pursuit and elimination of these people save similar outcomes for other would-be Dexter’s. In fact, Dexter’s adult character appears to have evolved drastically since his youth when Harry was compelled to teach him restraint and focus. He risks his own life for Cody and Aster at one point (Season 2). These are not the actions of a dyed-in-the-wool serial killer who must die or go to prison. Dexter’s victims are often worse than he could ever be. Dexter’s damage is not insurmountable. He does not have to die, sleep with his sister, have a son who is a serial killer or suffer yet another tragedy. He has suffered enough tragedies given the traumatic death of his mother and the murder of his wife. A fitting end would be that, like Lumen who laid her dark passenger to rest, Dexter, too, finds that he no longer needs to carry his dark passenger. Deb’s discovery can help fuel his complete reformation. He can choose to raise Harrison, possibly reunite with Lumen who understands him and accepts him, and whose only reason for leaving him was his need to continue killing. Dexter can find a sense of balance. Ending it this way leaves the series open for a renewal at some point, say when Harrison is older. I’d love to see Dexter hit the big screen.

  9. dont liked the idea of Debra being fond of Dexter.Dexter should never die unlike in other series…

  10. I once read somewhere that the author is accepting ideas from the fans, but I can’t find where, so I will post it here. We know Rita died by the hands of a serial killer and Dexter felt useless and mad afterwards. Then after that Harrison gets kidnapped in season 6. This can be his excuse/explanation to why he had to do what he had to do. He felt the need to stop those kinds of people permanently. Now obviously one day Debra has to find out the whole truth, it could be during season 7, it’s not like she will put it behind her and forget right away. She will have time to think and remember hints that will lead he to the truth. Thanks for reading.

  11. I thought he found out that Harry was his biological father.

  12. @ william. remember dexter did a DNA test on Joe driscoll and sent it to masuka in this scene. driscoll is his biological father. debra got mad at dexter because she said that whether or not driscoll is his biological father dexter’s father will always be harry because he was the one who raised him for most of his life. also dexter has AB- blood and harry had to call joe driscoll to ask for his blood after dexter injured himself while playing with debra.

  13. @ william. and in this scene.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alz3Ui6vmWo&feature=related

  14. i think they need to keep dexter ut end in a cliffhanger so that WE can deicde the ending for ourrselves. and also i think that they should’nt have killed off rita, she was awesome

    • i know she was awesome but as much as i adore rita. i loved the ending of season 4. it was so dramatic and poetic and so “oh my god” that i cant not love it. it was such a heart wrenching thing to do. and the first episode of season 5 amazing because of it. poor dexter,
i whole heartedly disagree with the cliff hanger thing. if they leave a cliff hanger at the end i will have to hold a protest. did you see the ending of the sopranos. that was shamefull.

  15. i dont want debra to be a serial killer or even an assistant i simply want her to turn a blind eye to the whole my brother is norman bates thing. i hope it happens somewhat like in the book. she knows but she doesnt do anything to stop it.

  16. I think that dexter will try to convince deb by telling her that travis tried to kill deb, harrison and dexter himself .he tell the whole story of how travis tried to kill him and his son in the bowl of fury and eclipse and will make some story as to why travis was behind him.dexter will convince her that if travis was left alive he would have tried to kill them again.firstly deb will be convinced but as the season will go on she will discover the truths about dexter.
In season 8 finally she will understand that dexter is serial killer and would want to arrest him .Than dexter will tell deb his whole real story
about the dark passenger, harry’s code and his murders. dexter will than want deb to kill him rather than get arrested because he will not want harrison to know that his father is a serial killer and suffer like trinity’s family did. at last deb will understand ,for dexter’s death they will make the same kill room as dexter uses for murders, photos of people whom dexter killed will be hanged on walls and the ritual will be completed by dexter’s death and the dark passenger will be gone.

    • how will dexter explain the elaborate setup (table and s*** loads of plastic) and the fact that he’s doing this inside the church. he’s wearing an the rubber apron and he has a sexy ass knife case with him. if that doesnt say pre-meditated murder i dont know what does… i love that he’s so organized about where his knives go. it’s so cute in a sick kinda way.

      • @ANA- Dexter will tell deb how travis kidnapped harrison in the tower and how he managed to rescue him and he will tell deb that travis said that if he gave him to miami metro he will come out somehow and will then come after harrison, deb and dexter. Thus telling deb that killing travis was his only resort to save his family and that he did not want to lose deb or harrison like he lost rita to trinity.Since Dexter is a foriensic expert he will tell deb that he planned to leave no trace of evidence hence he did it cleanly with plastics and all .He can also use this kill to say that this was a way to let out his anger and revenge for Rita’s murder by another serial killer.

        • makes enough sense but will deb buy it? im just playing devils advocate here. especially since debra in not someone who just shrugs away things. especially since this will probably add dexter into her list of failed relationships. she’s gonna question his honesty is what im saying. given that rudy tried to kill her and the man she was just about to tell she loves turns up stabbing someone… oh well. i guess we’ll have to wait and see. this post is feeding my obsession until september. im like crystal meth tweeker right now. major withdrawal.

  17. I think Debra has been so unhinged and having dealt with death and violent attacks head on, on so many occasions, she needs a side by side outlet with him, but that already happened with Lumen so I don’t know. Maybe she could help find cases that people got away with it but then that other guy who came completely unglued and helped him already did that too. She needs to find some way to come to peace with it and understand that this is who he is. It’s going to be a hell of a job to do the right thing here, make it believable and agreeable with the fans, and leave Dexter and Debra in an outcome that is natural and good but not a cop out like having one of them die.

  18. She has already questioned his actions, and constant disappearing acts. He always goes away and cannot be reached all the time. She’s going to see the pattern there. It may take a few episodes if they drag that out but it’d only make sense that if he were to come up with a good reason for what he did, for her to see that he’s lying. She’s probably going to feel obligated right away to help him. whether that’s saying he “needs help” or do like a real sister, or person who loves someone does, by helping get rid of the body.

  19. dexter needs to die instead of going prison !

  20. the last we will see of dexter is him and deb driving his boat out in to the night.perfect ending..

  21. What I think would be a good ending? Dexter walking in on Harrison killing animals or something in the nature of little Dexter back in Season 1 and 2, then he kinda realizes he needs to teach his son how to kill like Dexter’s dad did for him.

  22. @warrior
OMG that would be great!!! i never thought about it that way. I just never wanted debra kill anyone WITH dexter, emphasis on with. but on her own for her to shoot laguerta would be fantastic! i dont want dexter and deb to be a two-man killing team. thats too cheesy. i like dex’s lone wolf thing. for that reason i hated lumen and miguel. debra should kill one person and laguerta fits that role. we’ve all been aching to see debra finally get back at her. maybe if laguerta sees dex killing matthews but dex doesnt know deb has his back. she shoots laguerta and maybe dex realizes while doing a little investigating of his own realizes deb was the shooter. that would be the ultimate ending and showing once and for all that she would not turn him in because killer or not he’s her big brother.

  23. In the first book, “Darkly Dreaming Dexter,” in which the series was based, *SPOILER ALERT* LaGuerta was killed by Dexter’s brother when she stumbled upon the brother and Dexter standing over Deb ready to kill her. It would be interesting to have LaGuerta die in the final season/episode, since it should have been her destiny anyway. I don’t want Dexter to die in the final episode. Although he is a serial killer, his killing is ultimately on the side of good. I think that, like in the books, Deb should turn a blind eye to his killing, but that Harrison will show signs of becoming a killer as well.

    • If I reconnect correctly, in the close-up of the last season, when Dexter is stabbing DDK and Debra see him, the knife is show to enter only a inch or two. Enough to wound, maybe mortally, but not enough to kill the DDK on spot.

Debra interrupted Dexter, so at the start of S7 DDK is (shortly) alive. Debra and Dexter start to talk (probably with Debra pointing the gun against Dexter – she is a cop, it is a reflex) and interrupting them he will start to gloat about God and his plan and how He want him saved, blah, blah, blah. Then Dexter kill him.
Another possibility is DDK is able to free himself as Dex and Deb talk and are completely distracted talking to each other and, as DDK is trying to kill Dex or Deb the other kill DDK or better, Dex/Deb is wounded protecting the other and the other kill DDK.

The point of the act is to prevent each other from doing what would be natural and force them to talk, think, let emotion to settle and reinforce their link.

Would she arrest / denounce Dex if he saved her life and put himself in danger for her?

Another plot could be a flash back on how Dexter was really wounded as a child. He was playing with Debra, went recovering a ball, was stalked by a dog and fell over an iron stake? What really happened then? Do he step in and protected her from some harm and took it? Do Debra really went to recover the ball, was attacked by the dog and Dexter run to help her and got wounded because of her? Is this because she slept on the floor of Dexter bedroom as a child, because she feel he would always protect her?

Also, there is the hint when Harry was hospitalized and told both he would not able to prevent them from following their nature after he die. One could think he was talking to Dex DP and Deb will to become a cop like him, what about he was aware of their feeling to each other?

Also Deb, as a child, was aware of Dex DP when he mock him about burning ants.

      • i agree i think deb, though not fully, is somewhat aware that her brother is not normal. i think she’s in denial. jennifer carpenter said it herself. she was questioning the scene in which brian tells dexter to kill deb because they arent really related. debra wakes up for like a split second and sees her brother (although the memory is probably hazy)standing over her with a knife. debra

  24. Dex is going to drug Deb until he can come up with a plan. He keeps her hostage (meanwhile, Miami PD thinks DDK has her since they’re both missing), and then her love turns into Stockholm Syndrome/hero worship.

    • Dexter already did it (with Doakes). I don’t see the writers redo it with Debra.
Also, I don’t see Dexter to be able to sedate Debra in the Church. He has no way to surprise her.
Something must interrupt them, so they are forced to deal with it.

  25. I agree with what others are saying about ridding himself of his DP. But I don’t think he can just stop. Maybe he could get into a bad accident and suffer a head injury, which could lead him to lose that urge to kill.

  26. i don’t understand how the relationship with debra and dexter can possibly work out. According to wikipedia, the westermarck effect prevents people from being sexually attracted to each other if they’re raised together from early age. This is the main reason siblings who grow up together are not attracted to each other. There are cases where siblings or parents and their children get into a relationship, but in those cases there is usually a separation at birth do to some circumstances. Dexter was 3 when he was adopted and brought into the Morgans’ home, so he wouldn’t feel any attraction to his sister WHATSOEVER, and I hope the directors understand this. Deborah should also not feel any attraction to dexter either according to the westermarck effect. Hopefully this mess is cleared up in season 7/8. The westermarck effect is a natural tool of evolution, which developed to prevent inbreeding, and without it we would all be attracted to our siblings/parents. *Puke*

  27. also the westermarck effect works on ANYBODY who are raised together from young age. That means you don’t have to be biologically related for the westermarck effect to work on you.

  28. some interesting ideas put forth. whatever happens in the church, i feel Dexter should not be killed , Deb will realize the therapest is not working for her, she is not “in love” with Dexter, Deb will come to her own conclusions about Dexter’s DP, Dexter will sign over Harrison to Debs care, (in the end),Louis will go the way of all the serial killers in the show, as Deb figures out Dexters DP, Dexter will resign from the force, and dissapear on the horizon in his boat at the close of season 8. Deb will be left to figure out if she should hunt her “brother” or, just raise his son and watch for the signs of the dark passenger in Harrison.

  29. Dexter Morgan is a “hero” without a cape. I think a hero deserves a fair ending. But, I feel there is no life without mess & since his life is crazy messy already, he should have a clean end, I don’t believe he should die. He can come clean in the world & maybe they can learn top live with that idea, after all he kills only criminals. A hero deserves recognition. One may say he is a serial killer after all, he kills to satisfy his inner animal, his inner thirst for blood.
Even though Debra is Dexter’s foster sister, she is not blood related. It is natural for someone to develop latent romantic feelings. In the series it’ll be interesting to see what becomes of the relationship. Does Dexter’s dark passenger dissolve into oblivion? or does it become more complicated with Debra in his life?
Yes, if she was blood related to Dexter, then I would have been more than disgusted, but I am open to considering this new possibility. After all there have been cases of children growing up in orphanages & developing intimate feelings for one & other as they grow & if they got adopted in the same family.. Well you get the drift.
Debra is the only one who could claim to know him even remotely, one can imagine how Dexter might respond to the “life-partner” he has actually ever had. I think the writers have blown me away & inspired me to think outside the conventional box!
