Dexter season 5 first trailer Killer Dexter Season 5 Trailer

[Update: Be Sure To Check out our Dexter Season 5 Premiere Review!]

Warning: This article contains MAJOR SPOILERS for those not caught up with seasons 1-4 of Dexter

Fans of Showtime’s serial killer drama Dexter are likely still recovering from the shock of the jaw-dropping season 4 finale. While Dexter was “carrying out his duty” with the sly Trinity Killer (played John Lithgow, for which he won a Golden Globe), little did he know Trinity was still one step ahead of him.

Where do you go after the aforementioned tragic events? Well, from the look of the first trailer for season 5, Dexter is going to have a whole lot more to deal with than just guilt and emotional trauma.

Fans have been waiting with baited breath, ever since the season 4 finale last December, to see what happens next – and it doesn’t look as if the show is going to let anyone down.

Dexter does a good job of threading hints into the current season – as to where the show is going in the next season.

Before I say anymore, take a look at the exciting Dexter Season 5 trailer below, which premiered at this year’s Comic Con:

This season, the drama will focus on the fallout surrounding Dexter pretending to be a man named Kyle Butler (in season 4) – in order to get close to the Trinity Killer and his family. Now Dexter will have to deal with people, including Trinity’s “bereaved” family, who are asking questions about this “Kyle Butler” person – and why he was snooping around.

Most prominent, is the fact that Dexter’s wife was brutally murdered. Now, he must deal with, not only being a single parent to three kids, but the anger and animosity of his step daughter who blames him for her mother’s death.

Finally, Dexter has also drawn suspicion from his colleague, Joey Quinn (Desmond Harrington), who forces Deb to take a look at her brother – in a way she’s never even thought of before. Will this season spell the end for Dexter Morgan? Either an end to his killing ways or his life itself? My gut instinct is to say Dexter will wiggle his way out of the mess – and we’ll get one more season after this before things wrap up for good.

How much longer can Dexter carry on doing what he does best?

Of course that’s pure guesswork on my part – even after viewing the two-and-a-half minute trailer, we still don’t know exactly what’s going to happen in season 5 of the show (despite hints from series producer, Sara Colleton). Whatever happens I’m sure it’ll be as good as ever – since the show hasn’t really dipped in quality (in my opinion). How many other shows can you really say that about?

Dexter Season 5 will also feature the addition of some new faces including Julia Stiles (The Bourne Ultimatum), Johnny Lee Miller (Eli Stone), Peter Weller (RoboCop), Shawn Hatosy (Southland), and Maria Doyle Kennedy (The Tudors). Fresh blood is always a welcome way to shake things up a bit – especially for a show about a serial killer masquerading as a blood splatter analyst.

Be sure to tune in for the season 5 premiere of Dexter on September 26th on Showtime. It sure looks like America’s favorite serial killer has more on his plate to deal with than ever!

  1. Here’s my question…..hasn’t ANYBODY in the Miami PD noticed that all these guys who escaped justice for the last few years have all vanished without a trace??? Somebody’s gonna notice sooner or later…and that will be the beginning of the end for Dex…

    • pretty sure that was dealt with in season 2

      • pretty sure it wasn’t

        • Yeah, it was … when the public/police realized that all the bodies found had criminal histories, that’s when the public started calling Dexter the Dark Avenger.

    • yea Doax noticed all the vanishing people in season 2 when they found all the bodies and Dexter was trying to set up Doax as the Bay Harbour Butcher, but that crazi female lila murdered him! Anyone who followed him or suspected him of somthing somehow got either murdered or like Miguel Prado’s brother, just talked to and convinced that Dexter didn’t do anything even though he did. Great show!

  2. just caught up last night. I want to go into mourning…I’m so sad. I cant wait for sunday.

    • omg i cant believe poor rita! this season i had been thinking how she should lighten up on dexter and then she dies!!! so sad… the poor kids..

      • I agree! I’m very sad, too. I think offing Rita was a mistake.

  3. I am so amazingly surprised by Julia Stiles. I think this is the most relate-able she has even been. I hope she is recognized for her Luman. As so the rest of the cast, perfect as usual. Looks like Michael C Hall is well, We are so happy to hear it.

  4. does somebody know were can i find dexter’s sunglasses in S05 E06 at 06:32????

  5. What happened to all the negative comments about the ridiculous ending
for season 4 (mine included.) And all those who said they are done watching Dexter – I said I’d give it a chance. Well, it looks more like
the entries here have been screened to get rid of negatives other than
“I’m sad Rita died.” I did give the first couple of episodes a shot as
I said I would. It’s worse than even I imagined. Julia Stiles is as
insipid as she was in the Bourne trilogy – Oh if only Franca Potente
were chosen instead. This show is simply fishing it’s way out of a
bottomless pit. I’m selling my copy DVD season 4, just keeping the first
3 seasons, (apologies to the magnificently talented John Lithgow, and the rest of the superb cast of season’s 1-4.) Like so many who said they were
through with Dexter, but whose comments are gone. I’m through with Dexter,
and I blame it on the stupid writing that broke the developmental flow
of the characters. These season 5 episodes are band-aids that won’t stick.
Not for many of us. I’m deeply, deeply disappointed. It was an A++++ show.

  6. I think that dexter should plant evidence likning jorad chase to his wifes murder.. because they only thought that it was trinity.. and I hope now he finds out he is being watched and waxes both of the guys… I hope that Dexter never gets caught because then that would be the end of the show.. and i hope that luman and Dex become a very powerful couple… this season has really kept me on my toes.. i love Dexter Just keep it going .. he or Luman can not get caught..

  7. it bothers me that I’m so addicted to Dexter, then have to wait so long for the new season to be out on DVD…. Now i can’t play the trailer because it says its Private and i have to accept the senders friend request. Whats up with this?

  8. Dexter is my favorite show of all time. Does anyone know when Season 5 will be available on DVD? I just signed up on Amazon for them to notify me when it becomes available but I’d like to know how long I have to wait!

We have Season One thru Four and we’re on the fifth time of watching it all the way thru from start to finish, and that’s just since Christmas:)

I watched Season 5 on Showtime last fall, and would love to watch it again (and again:) but can’t find anywhere on the internet where we can watch the full episodes, even though the season is over. The one on this site reads private viewing when clicked. Any ideas of where we can go watch Season 5 full episodes until it is available on DVD?

  9. There is one part in Season 5 I haven’t been able to let go of yet. That sleazy detective Quinn hires to keep an eye on Dexter puts pictures of Dexter dumping bodies in the ocean in a file at Quinn’s house. He hasn’t found them yet but as I recall Dexter and Lumen end up leaving the pictures there for some reason, I think they ran out of time while sneak searching Quinn’s place maybe? I’m wondering what is going to happen when Quinn finally DOES see them………..The cast of characters couldn’t even be improved on. I’m glad they got rid of Lila for sure, creepy, and I’m glad they got rid of Rita, too demanding/controlling, spouses, ugh. Lol. Dokes was easy to hate. I liked Lundy, sorry to see him go in such a final way.
Dexter, Deb, Angel, Masuka, and possibly Maria have to stay even if others occasionally go. I like Lumen so far, and hope they bring her back as a girlfriend to Dexter someday. I like that Deb doesn’t know about Dexter so far, it keeps it more exciting with all the close calls.

  10. What an ending! By far the best show on TV!
