dexter 502 0942 Dexter Season 5 Episode 4: Beauty and the Beast Spoilers Discussion

While season 5 of Dexter may not feature a Trinity Killer-esque “big bad” for Mr. Morgan to stalk, the season has still managed to throw several heart-pouning moments our way.

Dexter’s first ritual kill of the season, Boyd Fowler, showcased the return of mini “big bads” (similar to what we saw in season 2 and 3) – which has, so far, been a nice change of pace.

Considering the shocking final minutes of last week’s episode of Dexter, this week’s episode, “Beauty and the Beast” will have the anti-hero serial killer scrambling to protect his identity – without violating Harry’s code. Complicating matters is Quinn’s rogue investigation of Dexter following the aftermath of the Trinity Killer.

Preview (courtesy of Showtime):

“Dexter catches a mysterious woman who may have witnessed him in the act of killing a killer; Deb has a frightening run-in with a murder suspect in the Santa Muerte homicides; and Quinn uncovers more striking similarities between Kyle Butler and Dexter Morgan.”

  1. yea its just so hard to top last season it was just to good. This season has been somewhat slow only 1 death outa 4 episodes but it still has been good, I have a feeling he will start to make up for that next episode. Lets just hope his new wingman dosent get him caught with sloppy kills that leave a trace back to him. I also have a question, does anyone think that the kids are going to come back eventuly or r they allways going to live with their grandparents??

    • 2 kills

      • yea u forgot the guy in the bathroom tht he killed

    • I love the idea that Dex has a genuine “partner” someone who knows who he is without having to worry about getting stabbed in the back(jimmie smits character). Wish the kids would return, but I think Lumen will be the ” bring dexters human side out” character now. I just hope they tie dex back into the miami metro fold. I like many others am getting bored with any scenes not involving dex. Just felt awkward when he “guest starred” this week in the santa muerta crime scene. Hope they can tie em together so its not like we are watching story A and story B. One appealing part of dex is how theres so many moving parts in the story and they are all connected. Right now it just feels like Dexters story, then Miami metro story.

  2. fantastic as always… dad and I can’t stop watching, Dexter is just always so good. And poor Deb… she looked like she didn’t know what to do when the kid was cut up, so she decides to boink Quinn’s brains out again. Hmm… wonder what’ll happen if Dexter kills Quinn… lol Poor Deb, not much luck in the Boyfriend department… first one tries to kill her, second one leaves, third one leaves her after she cheated on him when the second one comes back, who was then shot and killed, and now she’s with Quinn, who I’m pretty sure is either gonna die or… well actually there is no or….

  3. Quinn has been my favorite non-Dexter character pretty much since he first came to the show, now he’s getting alot more time on screen. I wondered how long it’d be before he became the new Doakes, or the newest guy Debra got involved with, and got a two-for. It started off kinda slow but this season is getting interesting fast…

  4. My Prediction:

Dexter feels some connection/sympathy for Lumen (Julia Styles). At the end of the episode, she says something along the lines of “This isn’t the first time this has happened”. She is ‘damaged’ like Dexter and we all know his character his drawn to other damaged people.

I think this means Dexter will help her hunt down the other men that have wronged her. One of them will be a scumbag, but hasn’t killed anyone, which conflicts with Dexter’s code. That will be a subplot.

The Quinn storyline is garbage. They are recycling the same storyline from seasons 1 and 2 that the James Doakes character (my favorite Dexter character) had.

Deborah is useless and needs to stop banging every male character not in the credits. Her character really needs a shot in the arm. Here’s hoping she discovers Dexter’s secret, tries to turn him in, and gets a “Dexter-style” send-off.

    • no way would dexter ever kill deb. I like debs character since the 2nd or 3rd season. When I first started watching dex, I couldn’t stand her, way too whiny. she has grown on me however.

also, lumen says “There are more people then just Boyd” who did this. I think it has something to do with that “take it” motivational speaker guy. maybe some sort of cult thing that dex will evetually take down. I just wish he was more involved in the miami PD scene. the show is at its best when all the moving parts in the story are connected. As it stands now, its basically dexter/lumen, la muerta case, quinn story, and bautisguerta.

      • I bet you’re right about the “take it” guy. They’ve made it a point to show the “Take It” guy playing the first time Dex snuck into Boyd’s house twice now when they do “Previously on Dexter” there must be something more there.

The first thing Lumen said to Dex was “Are you going to sell me?” maybe she’s been sold around from nutjob to nutjob.

  5. What an outstanding episode. Many of the traits I find in other great television shows and movies are shown in this episode that it’s hard to comprehend them all. “Saying so much when saying so little.” “Watching actors that know how to not only act with costars they’ve been with for years, but those that have just arrived.” “Making a girl running from a killer NOT stupid.”

The depth that DEXTER gives it’s audience is just simply unmatched. Another great entry in a series that simply has ZERO filler episodes. Thanks for the coverage!

  6. They never explained what happened to the guy in the bathroom.

  7. maybe the bathroom guy was on an outlying island that is out of us jurisdiction? i dunno thats what i thought. he was fleeing the country at the moment.

Anyone else notice dexter has yet to wear his “kill shirt” this season? ya know, that brownish greenish “henley” style shirt? maybe a further hint of him starting to slip up on his routine?
