We’ve only really touched on the new animated film Despicable Me a little when talking about Illumination Entertainment breaking into the world of CGI animation this year. But to get you, our Screen Rant readers, a little more familiar with a release that you’re sure to see a lot of ads for, we have here a new teaser trailer for the movie which premiered over at Times Online.
Here’s the synopsis for Despicable Me:
At last though we get a big screen perspective on the super-villain lifestyle with Despicable Me. Super-villain Gru hatches a plot to become the world’s greatest master criminal. As long as he can overcome his arch rival Vector.
The film features the voice acting talent of Steve Carell (who plays Gru), Jason Segel, Kristin Wiig, Will Arnett, Ken Jeong, Julie Andrews, Danny McBride, Miranda Cosgrove and Russell Brand. An odd group I have to say.
The teaser parodies the famous opening title walk from Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs, a joke which will go over the heads of the kids the movie’s primarily aimed at but gives the adults something to appreciate (hinting that in Pixar-style we’ll get more of those kinds of jokes in the actual movie).

It’s just a teaser so not a helluva of a lot to go on but I have to say it looks cute and fun. I’ll be interested to see – or rather, hear – Carell lend his comedy talents once again to an animated film after doing a good job in last year’s Horton Hears A Who!. Dollars to donuts he has a moment where he does his trademark loud shouting first seen in Bruce Almighty. Anyone taking bets?
What do you think of the teaser? Look like fun to you or is it just another animated film amongst a sea of others?
Despicable Me hits theaters July 9th, 2010 in the U.S. and on October 15th, 2010 in the UK.
