Marvel Studios has their hands full with eight more films on their slate for Phase 3, but that has not stopped them from expanding the universe across all platforms. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has found its stride on ABC and Marvel just announced that an Inhumans TV series will be coming to ABC soon – but Netflix is where Marvel TV has truly excelled. After two seasons of Daredevil and premiere seasons for Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, Hell’s Kitchen is quickly growing and is bringing its street-level superheroes together in The Defenders.
The Marvel/Netflix mini-series has already begun filming – and in the days leading up and following the start of production, many familiar faces from the Netflix universe have been confirmed to appear in the series. One of these characters was none other than Trish Walker (Rachael Taylor), and now the first photos of her on set have been revealed.
Daily Mail posted the new photos of Taylor on the set of The Defenders. She has only appeared so far in Jessica Jones season 1 (though her voice could be heard over the radio in Luke Cage season 1), so it is not surprising that she is once again working here with Jessica Jones herself, Krysten Ritter. The photos don’t reveal much about the mmi-series’ plot or how Trish is involved, but for now it’s enough to just see the two character back together.
While these photos do not show either of the women in action, the leisurely stroll they are taking is most likely more than just catching up with one another. Instead, Jessica may be using her skills as a private investigator to learn about the threat that Sigourney Weaver is going to be and is seeing if Trish knows anything about it.
Outside of the potential story, it is interesting that of the four leading heroes (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist) that only Jessica has so far been spotted on set. She was the very first person to be seen on the first day of production and was seen shortly after having a stand-off with Misty Knight (Simone Missick). With S.J. Clarkson back directing the first two episodes of The Defenders as she did with Jessica Jones, her hiring may have been based on her familiarity with Jessica.
Based on the photos alone, Jessica could have a major role to play in not only the entire season, but especially at the beginning. However, now that she, Misty, and Trish have been spotted, it is only a matter of time before the rest of the cast is seen as well. As to how big a role any of the supporting characters will actually have in the mini-series as a whole, that remains to be seen.
Daredevil seasons 1 and 2, Jessica Jones season 1, and Luke Cage season 1 are now available on Netflix. Iron Fist will premiere on March 17, 2017, with The Defenders and The Punisher arriving later that year. Premiere dates for the next seasons of Jessica Jones season 2 and Daredevil season 3 have not yet been announced.
