Later this year, Marvel and Netflix will be releasing their very first team-up special when The Defenders makes its premiere on the streaming service. Following the introductions of Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones in their own standalone seasons, the series will feature the four vigilantes of Hell's Kitchen teaming up to take on a villainous force unlike any they've encountered before. While not much is known about the villains of the series as of right now either, it has been revealed that Sigourney Weaver's powerful, mysterious Alexandra will be at the center of it all.

Weaver's casting in the series was, understandably, met with overwhelmingly positive reactions from fans, when it was announced during NYCC last year. After establishing herself as one of the most formidable and iconic actresses in cinema history, she seemed like the perfect person to force The Defenders together.

While only one image of Weaver as Alexandra has been officially released so far (see above), the latest batch of set photos from the series' production offer a new look at the character. Spotted in the back of a car speaking with an unknown person, the images themselves don't reveal all that much about Alexandra, other than continuing to reinforce her as a powerful figure in New York City it seems. Marvel's The Defenders team

These photos are exciting though because, despite set photos continuously surfacing online really ever since The Defenders first began production, Weaver has been noticeably absent from a majority of them. Now, Marvel and Netflix have done their best to maintain as much secrecy around her character as possible, which could explain why she's been spotted so little throughout production so far. But basically, the only things that seem certain about Alexandra are that she's someone with influence and power in the Marvel world, and that she's someone dangerous enough to force Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones) to work together.

If both of those facts prove to be true, then it seems like Alexandra will fit in quite nicely with the other villains that The Defenders have crossed paths with already. From Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio) to The Purple Man (David Tennant), the Marvel Netflix villains have been defined by their secrecy and underground operations, preferring to work in the shadows away from the spotlight rather than announcing themselves for the entire world to see. It's unclear if Alexandra is a well-known public figure or not, as of yet, but she must have some dastardly plans in store to be considered even more dangerous than The Hand, Wilson Fisk, Cottonmouth, and the rest of the Netflix villains that have been introduced thus far. Hard to think of a more perfect person to bring that kind of presence to the Marvel Universe than Sigourney Weaver too.
