We now know a bit more about the main villain from this summer's Netflix TV event, The Defenders. The heroes of Marvel's Netflix TV shows will finally come together during The Defenders miniseries to battle The Hand, which has been hinted at as the main enemy of the team-up event since the very first season of Daredevil. The organization has weaved in and out of both Daredevil and Iron Fist, but it has remained elusive as to what the organization actually wants or how it is ultimately structured - or who's in charge.

We've known for a while that Sigourney Weaver is playing a mysterious villain named Alexandra in The Defenders, but what has been harder to place is just who her character is and how she fits into the larger world that is the Marvel/Netflix corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Up to this point, all that we know about her is that she appears to be the head of a shady business organization. It seems that she might be more than that, however.

In an interview with International Business Times, Defenders costume designer Stephanie Maslansky may have just let slip that the character is The Hand's leader. Here's what she told the outlet:

“I think that she’s clearly a baddie, and she’s the head of an ancient organization which is grounded in the comics. I hope that her wardrobe reflects that kind of ancientness. I hope I haven’t said too much. I hope Marvel doesn’t come after me.”

Maslansky went on to describe how the color palettes for each of the Defenders were built directly into each respective solo series. Where Daredevil is red, Jessica Jones is violet and blue. Luke Cage rocks gold while Iron Fist has a monopoly on green. These colors were not only blended into The Defenders, but were also used to set up Weaver's Alexandra and may hint at more about her character:

“What’s interesting about these characters is that our first director [S.J. Clarkson], the director that did episodes 1 and 2 of ‘The Defenders,’ was able to — her idea was to really keep each superhero very distinct in terms of palette.

“There was a palette component to [Alexandra's] world too. I don’t really want to get into that, but you can draw your own conclusions from what you’ve seen. [There is] a lot of depth to her wardrobe. A lot of life or lives to her wardrobe, I wanna say."

What has been revealed of Alexandra's wardrobe in The Defenders trailers and images released to date, are muted gold and silver with a lot of texture. It seems to contrast with the colorful natures of The Defenders themselves, who use a lot more solid colors with far less texture.

Maslansky's cryptic words about the depth of her wardrobe as having a "lot of life or lives" also brings about some interesting questions. We know that The Hand possesses the ability to bring the dead back to life, so it is possible that Alexandra has been around for a very, very long time. Considering that her character was hinted at having telekinetic powers in the trailer she is probably an incredibly powerful enemy for The Defenders to reckon with.
