Here’s the official description of the film:

Terminal Island: The very near future. The world’s hunger for extreme sports and reality competitions has grown into reality TV bloodlust. Now, the most extreme racing competition has emerged and its contestants are murderous prisoners. Tricked-out cars, caged thugs and smoking-hot navigators combine to create a juggernaut series with bigger ratings than the Super Bowl. The rules of the Death Race are simple: Win five events, and you’re set free. Lose and you’re road kill splashed across the Internet. International action star Jason Statham leads the action-thriller’s cast as three-time speedway champion Jensen Ames, an ex-con framed for the murder of his wife. Forced to don the mask of the mythical driver Frankenstein, a Death Race crowd favorite who seems impossible to kill, Ames is given an easy choice by Terminal Island’s ruthless Warden Hennessey (Joan Allen): Suit up and drive or never see his little girl again. His face hidden by a hideous mask, he must win the insane three-day challenge in order to gain freedom. But to claim the prize, Ames must survive a gauntlet of the most vicious criminals-including nemesis Machine Gun Joe (Tyrese Gibson)-in the country’s toughest prison. Trained by his coach (Ian McShane) to drive a monster Mustang V8 Fastback outfitted with 2 mounted mini-guns, flamethrowers and napalm, an innocent man must destroy everything in his path to win the most twisted spectator sport on Earth.

Ten (10!) lucky winners will receive:

  • Starring: Jason Statham, Joan Allen, Ian McShane, Natalie Martinez, and Tyrese Gibson.

  • START YOUR ENGINES: MAKING A DEATH RACE: From pre and post-production to the casting of Jason Statham, this bonus documentary takes viewers on set to see how a huge, stunt-driven Hollywood movie was made.
  • BEHIND THE WHEEL: DISSECTING THE STUNTS: In this featurette, the many jaw-dropping stunts in the film are documented including interviews with the cast and crew.

  1. Does “unrated” mean it won’t suck as bad as the theatrical release ? :-)

  2. Would I be considered greedy if I enter this right after winning The Dark Knight DVD?? I haven’t seen this movie yet, but one of my friends seemed to have liked it, but then again, he likes a lot of things I don’t… I wouldn’t mind seeing it though… I’ll send the email when I get home though, at work at the moment…

  3. @Ken

Hey I just won the original Day the Earth Stood Still and I’ve entered this one and the three-DVD christmas contest. Call me greedy :)

  4. @790

Nice opening comment on a great giveaway. I agree with Kofi’s review here on the site – it was a fun movie for what it was.

  5. Lol,,, sorry,
I felt pretty let down by this reimagined fuel injected mess.

  6. LOL Vic. I’m sure nobody is expecting any sort of oscar-bait when they pay to watch this movie. The one interesting thing that I want to find out if it’s true or not, is the director’s claim that there are no CG shots, that everything was done using practical effects…

I will be keeping a keen eye mister, he better not be lying! lol

  7. @790
You didn’t like it? Really? I haven’t seen the rated R version for comparison but I enjoyed the unrated one. Only thing is when the “bad guys” get it at the end it could have been more satisfyint.

    @Ken J
According to the special features on the DVD the stunts were indeed done in reality and not CG. They used minimal CGI in the movie according to the “making of.”

  8. Kinda like “The Day the Earth Stood Still”, Death Race only borrowed the title,,, the original had a more going for it, then this.

I would have prob had more respect for Death Race if it was called “Transporter 5″. :-)

Statham’s really cranking out the garbage lately.

  9. Totally entering this, I love Ian McShane.

  10. Ian McShane, was one bright spot in the film, he is great!!!

  11. @790
If you hold the original in such high regard, maybe you’d better go watch it again (not slamming it, I love it – but it was WAY cheesy, even for its time). :-)

  12. I thought the first third of this movie was awful and the dialogue was beyond bad, but the second two-thirds were fun to watch

  13. Vic you have a funny way of persuading me to enter this giveaway,,, :-)

  14. @790

LOL, I’m not trying to persuade you to enter. :-) If you’ve seen it and you don’t like it, that’s fine. A lot of people thought it was terrible – I just thought it was fine for what it was.

  15. Now this is a giveaway I can get into! Good luck to all who entered!

  16. I hope I win.^^ My brother really wants to see this movie.

  17. Sent a message through Yahoo. Hope that’s okay. Good luck everyone.^^

  18. PS. Don’t tell my brother, but I kind of excited about seeing this movie as well. ;D

  19. I was a huge fan of the original film Death Race 2000 with David Carradine, and I would love the chance to check out this remake with Jason Statham since all his films have been really entertaining, and spawned sequels.

  20. I saw the original earlier this year, and I have to say that I like the remake a lot more. Of course, the original had iconic actors like David Caradine, Stallone and Golfer (Fred Grandy ;-) ) but I thought it was way too chessy. Maybe if I saw it when it came out, I may have had a different opinion.

  21. I really liked this movie. Sure, I am a little biased as a proud Jason Statham fan, but it was good! I liked the original more, but not by too much. I will agree with 790 that it’s a little hard to compare the two.

David Caradine was and is AWESOME!

  22. Sure the new film looks a lot better and has some better action… (Drag it out of me)

The charm of the “original” is the world wide conspiracy that’s actually going on during the race…
Stallone and Caradine are also in their prime.

Statham and McShane were good in the new film. Like I said it should have been the sequel to the yet to be produced Transporter 4,,, :-)

  23. Have not seen either movie, going into this contest with an open-mind and hopefully the movie, THANKS!

  24. I admit I loved this movie, so you know I’d clutch it to my little black heart if I won. ;)

  25. Now this is a giveaway I can get into! Thank you.

  26. thanks for the chance

  27. I hope I win this-I haven’t seen it yet!

  28. WTG winners and looking forward to some reviews on more movies

  29. I won I won I won!
Awesome, its the first time I’ve won anything ever…
    Thanks Vic!
