With Deadpool finally joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the highly-anticipated Deadpool 3, many theories have popped up on what the Merc with a Mouth’s next movie could be about and who will join him, and one suggests that Deadpool 3 will reveal a secret mutant character that debuted in Deadpool 2. Deadpool has become one of the most popular characters from Marvel Comics, and after a disastrous big-screen debut in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, he got a second chance in his first solo movie.

The timeline reset in X-Men: Days of Future Past allowed Deadpool to return as a new variation of himself in Deadpool, which explored the origin story of the title character (played by Ryan Reynolds) and stayed true to his signature sense of humor. Deadpool was a critical and financial success, making way for a sequel simply titled Deadpool 2. In it, after the murder of his girlfriend Vanessa (Morena Baccarin), Deadpool reluctantly agrees to join the X-Men, and along with Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Colossus, he confronts a young mutant named Russell (Julian Dennison). However, Russell turned out to be the target of Cable (Josh Brolin), a cybernetic soldier who travels back in time to kill Russell, and so Deadpool decides to protect the young mutant.

In order to help Russell and get him out of prison, Deadpool organizes a team called X-Force, which was formed by some very strange but interesting characters: Domino (Zazie Beetz), Bedlam (Terry Crews), Zeitgeist (Bill Skarsgård), Shatterstar (Lewis Tan), Vanisher (Brad Pitt), and Peter (Rob Delaney). All of them had at least one superpower, except for Peter, who was just a normal guy with the particularity of having diabetes type 1 and 2. Deadpool was especially fond of Peter, calling him "Sugar Bear" and cheering on him when the rest of the team (except for Domino because she’s lucky) died after jumping off the helicopter. Peter managed to land safely, but Zeitgeist landed in a wood chipper and Peter tried to rescue him, and Zeitgeist unintentionally vomited on him and killed him. However, during the post-credits sequence of Deadpool 2, Deadpool went back in time and saved Peter, which makes it possible for him to return – and a theory suggests he will as he might secretly be the mutant Peter Wisdom.

Who Peter Wisdom Is In Marvel Comics

Marvel Comics Peter Wisdom

Peter Wisdom is a British Secret Service agent who made his debut in Marvel Comics in Excalibur vol. 1 #86 in 1995. Peter Wisdom is a mutant, and he has the power of absorbing ambient heat and solar radiation, which he releases from his fingertips as semi-solid energy projections he refers to as “hot knives”. These are pure thermal energy and are said to be as hot as the surface of the sun, and he can also use them to form shields, burn incoming missiles, can fire them as projectiles, or leave them attached to his fingertips like claws. In addition to that, Peter is highly-skilled in espionage, intelligence-gathering, use of firearms, and is very intelligent.

At some point in his comic book history, Peter asked X-Force for help to recover a cybernetic brain from Genosha and fight Magneto, and he was later seen as the new leader of the team, mentoring them and showing them how to better use their mutant powers. Peter is apparently murdered some time later, and he returned to work for British Intelligence.

Could Deadpool 2’s Peter Actually Be A Mutant?

Deadpool 2 Peter

Rumors about Deadpool’s Peter being Peter Wisdom began even before Deadpool 2 was released as one of the trailers included a look at Deadpool assembling the X-Force team, and Peter’s super professional headshot, where he’s wearing a suit and a black tie, definitely added to the belief that he could be this peculiar mutant. Although Deadpool 2 surprised the audience by making Peter a normal guy (who didn’t really look like he did in his photo), the theory about “Sugar Bear” actually being Peter Wisdom only grew given that Wisdom is a secret agent, and Peter could have been faking being powerless. As Peter is still alive thanks to Deadpool going back in time to save him, Peter could return in Deadpool 3 and make the big reveal of him actually being a mutant, and so he could properly team up with Deadpool this time.

However, what made Peter so special and loved by not only viewers but Deadpool too is that he was an ordinary man with a couple of health issues and was open to a new adventure. Peter was basically useless in X-Force, which brought some hilarious balance to a team that already had mutants with very strange powers and a character who was invisible. Peter being revealed to be Peter Wisdom in Deadpool 3 would be a nice twist and would allow him to take a bigger role in Deadpool’s next adventure, but it can also ruin what made “Sugar Bear” so special in Deadpool 2.
