Since Ryan Reynolds made his return as Wade Wilson, fans have been eager to see Deadpool share the screen with Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. The proposed team-up is not merely the result of the two characters' shared comic book history, but also so Reynolds could share the screen with Jackman for a second time. But after 17 years, Jackman called it quits with Logan, marking the end of his time as the ferocious mutant.

Jackman's firm stance on the end of his tenure in the X-Men universe put an end to the hopes of Wolverine making a cameo in Deadpool 2. However, after his face made an appearance in the first film, the writers of the sequel are keen to a new idea of making a Hugh Jackman cameo work.

THR spoke to Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese about their newest film, Life. THR writer Aaron Couch pitched the writers his idea to make a Jackman cameo possible. The pitch was simply to include Jackman as himself and not as Wolverine, allowing for Deadpool to meet the man whose face he stapled to his own. Reese replied:

"I like that. Deadpool lives in a world where Hugh Jackman is out there. He's got the People's Sexiest Man Alive cover that he staples to his forehead in the first movie, so maybe he could meet Hugh as Hugh. That would be really funny."

Such a cameo would be a crowd-pleasing moment for everyone who has followed Jackman's career as Wolverine, but it would also be a great way to bring him back into the franchise without taking anything away from his send-off in Logan. The scenario would also allow for Jackman to stay true to his word about not appearing again as Wolverine, but making an exception for Hugh Jackman to meet the true Merc with a Mouth.

No matter how great of an idea this may be, it will still ultimately come down to Jackman's willingness to appear. That said, this would likely not require a lengthy shoot and could be filmed at any point during production. That's to say, if Jackman is willing, it would not be surprising to see him come face-to-face with a fictional character who is all to aware who Hugh Jackman is. Now its up to the creative team involved to work out a scene that is too good for Jackman to pass up.
