Ryan Reynolds takes a break on the set of Deadpool 2 to raise support for the impact of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Even those more immersed in the world of entertainment news rather than world news cannot have missed the disasters befalling the United States right now. It was just a little over a week ago that Texas was devastated by Hurricane Harvey, the strongest hurricane to hit the United States since 2004. Lives were lost, major parts of the state were flooded, and many lost everything.

Now, Hurricane Irma is bearing down on Florida. This second deadly hurricane has already carved a path of destruction across islands on the trajectory towards Florida, and millions in the Sunshine State have evacuated from their homes in fear of the damage that will be done as Irma makes landfall. Only time will tell what the extent of Irma’s destruction is, but it is obvious that Florida and islands in the South will be joining Texas as a location in dire need of assistance.

Now public figures have begun to step up and use their large platforms to give support. Whether it’s spreading the message to their audience and advocating for people to chip in how they can, or even donating their own funds for the cause, celebrities are taking this as seriously as anyone. Even Ryan Reynolds took a break on the set of Deadpool 2 to step out of his role as the funny superhero for a moment to implore others to do something to help.

Let's help Hurricanes Harvey and Irma to fuck off. Support https://t.co/hHom3JZZss or charity of your choice: https://t.co/Txcoiz8mYJ pic.twitter.com/iU43Fi6SOi— Ryan Reynolds (@VancityReynolds) September 9, 2017

Reynolds asks his fans to give to whatever charity will be lending aid to victims of Harvey and Irma, specifically advocating for Americares. Per their website, Americares has already responded to the crisis in Texas left by Harvey, sending numerous emergency shipments of supplies to affected areas, as well as ensuring that those in need have access to health care. Meanwhile in Florida, Americares has already positioned themselves in the area to be able to respond to those who will inevitably require help. Hurricane Irma is one of the most powerful hurricanes recorded in the Atlantic, so emergency supplies will no doubt be crucial as Florida feels the effects.

Needless to say, many people are in need of help right now. So to those who have been wondering how to do something to make a difference, hopefully Reynolds’ use of his platform to spread the message about these charities will provide an outlet for many who are looking to help to be able to do so.

Deadpool 2 is one of three X-Men franchise films 20th Century Fox is looking to debut in 2018, with the others being New Mutants and X-Men: Dark Phoenix. The Deadpool sequel will see Reynolds suit up again as the Merc with a Mouth as he meets new characters Cable (Josh Brolin) and Domino (Zazie Beetz). Filming on Deadpool 2 reportedly wrapped, but it appears Reynolds is still shooting scenes as Wade Wilson's alter-ego.
